Episode 235 of The Independent Characters takes us, primarily, on a review and recounting of Adepticon from Josh and Jody's point of view. Originally we had expected to include a bunch of information about the various game stores and events Carl went to when on vacation in Australia, but things didn't quite work out as planned on that front. If you ARE interested in the Australia Trip, Carl will discuss that as bonus content for our Patreon members of all levels. However, Josh and Jody go into detail about Adepticon, what events they attended and provide some advice for those going in a long discussion. We hope you enjoy! Episode 233 of The Independent Characters takes an in depth look at the psychology behind collecting Warhammer 40k. We are going to explore the benefits and pitfalls of the hobby and take a look at some strategies for not increasing your "closet of opportunity"... unless that makes you happy! To help us with this we are joined for an interview with Christopher Will, a psychologist operating out of Southern California. We didn't realize how long this episode had gotten as we explored this topic - so strap yourselves in for a pretty lengthy 3 hours of awesomeness! Episode 230 of The Independent Characters has us return for an update to our Show of Force for the new Space Marines and Tyranid Codexes! Be warned that Show of Force episodes tend to be damaging to people's wallets. Episode 227 of The Independent Characters has Carl and Josh attending an incredible event for Adeptus Titanicus. In this episode we will discuss what the Burning of Califax event by the Gothamos Gaming Group (or G3 for short) entailed, what our experience there was, and what it takes to run an event like this. Bear with our audio quality in the final part of the show as we piped in our guest and they didn't have a direct microphone. But we think you will find the information they provide to be useful and entertaining. If you haven't seen pictures of this event on our Facebook Group, Discord, or even posted in the Adeptus Titanicus section of Reddit, you can see them presented on YouTube as we wind our way through the episode. We hope you enjoy Episode 227. There is a lot to unpack here, and we hope you get out of it as much as we put into it! Episode 225 of The Independent Characters has us taking a look at the State of the Galaxy. This means we are doing a review of the major changes and updates to the lore over the last 10 years or so. It used to be that nothing changed in the Warhammer 40k universe. It was always two minutes to midnight and the clock stayed there. Since 7th edition though, Games Workshop has slowly begun to evolve the lore and move the clock ever forward. We take a look at these changes and what they mean for the future of Warhammer 40k. We hope you enjoy Episode 225. Episode 224 sees Josh and Carl joined by Aaron and Justin. If you are looking for a lot of Warhammer 40k hobby progress and games played... well this isn't going to be the episode for you. Just warning you right now. We do however, spend quite a bit of time talking about the various board games we played at our annual 'Geekend' event we do our in central California. (By the way the game we couldn't remember the name of was called Wavelength!) Eventually we get into the meat of the episode and spend some time discussing current topics within the Warhammer 40k Community (or maybe it's just our perception on the community!). Either way it is a hour and a half of discussion and we hope you share your opinions with us in our Discord server or Facebook group! We hope you enjoy Episode 224. Episode 221 of The Independent Characters takes a look at some of our favorite models across the line of Games Workshop support for the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It isn't easy picking a favorite anything as we find out. It's like trying to decide what your favorite song is, or favorite movie. Sure it sounds simple at first, but then if you are forced to ruthlessly prioritize your choices, that's where it becomes really difficult. The models that represent the Warhammer 40,000 universe are as diverse as they are lovely. We try to narrow down our favorite models in this discussion and spend some time explaining why our biased opinion is the right one. It was meant to be a light hearted take on some of the best aspects of the game, but it turned into a demanding breakdown to pick our favorite representative models. That being said, we had a great time recording this episode, and we hope you enjoy it half as much as we did bringing it to you! Episode 229 of The Independent Characters embraces our motto of making you feel like a part of our gaming group by brining in two of our listeners to join us in an episode of The Warrior Lodge! For those who may not have listened before, The Warrior Lodge is a moderated discussion about a series of current topics in the 40k universe. This time around the topic of choice is the new 10th Edition of Warhammer 40,000. We hope you enjoy meeting some of our listeners and hearing a great discussion on our thoughts of the new edition so far. Episode 219 of The Independent Characters takes a unique look at 10th Edition and Leviathan. Warhammer 40k 10th Edition is here and so is Leviathan, the latest huge starter box from Games Workshop. Everyone knows this though. So why cover it? Well with something like this you kind of have to discuss the elephant (or new edition in this case) in the room. However, we decide to approach things a little different here at The Independent Characters. We have brought in Skye Herrick of Herrick Games and Hobbies to talk about what going through a release like this does to an Independent Retailer as well as what may have lead up to it. Rather than go into an overview discussion of the rules and how they have changed, we delve into two exciting ways to play that we are interested in. Combat Patrol and Crusade! This edition is sure to stay with us for awhile, and we hope you do as well! From the games origins, to where it currently stands, we look at the differences and similarities between the older and newer versions of the game. Additionally, we spend some time discussing where the game sits in the pantheon of games set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe and how we think you can best utilize it. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it! Taking a playbook from the Show of Force episodes, we are doing a deep dive of the various factions in Necromunda! In this new series you can expect us to look at where the various gangs originated, how they have evolved over the years, where they fit into the overall universe of Necromunda (and Warhammer 40k), and a bit about how they play! For our first in this series, we are tackling the might House of Chains, or as they are better known, House Goliath. Episode 216 of The Independent Characters has the group covering rare and coveted Warhammer 40k Materials from the past. Over the years, Games Workshop has produced and released many very cool and specialized products for many of its ranges. The Warhammer 40,000 universe has possibly seen the most of these rare and wonderful products. In this episode, each host has selected one rare item from Warhammer 40k and do a short dive into what the item is, what it means to the Warhammer 40k universe, and then discuss why the item is of interest to them and likely the community as a whole! This is the first in a series around these types of materials. If you enjoy this episode, please let us know! If you want to hear coverage of some specific item, let us know that as well. If you didn't like the subject matter - we REALLY want to know that too! Don't forget you can also watch and listen to us on our YouTube Channel.  We hope you enjoy the show. female Marines is the worst idea I could imagine for 40k. it has no basis in the lore and would make no sense to be added for primaris Marines (though nothing about primaris makes any sense). if you took a young female and added several hundred pounds of muscle and hardened, fused bones, she would look exactly like a current marine, not some curvy version with armour boobs. we have so many options for women to engage in 40k, including sisters of battle, sisters of silence, imperial guard, eldar, and more. shoehorning women spacemarines would show that the lore is second to social expediency, which would ruin the setting.
