It feels like there’s been an increase in the number of knife related crimes in our community lately. And while statistics might show they’re actually on the decline, there’s still more we can do to lower that number even further.
But it might not be as easy to resolve like the gun amnesty achieved in the 1990s, so how do we actually stop people from using a knife as a deadly weapon?

Hot flushes, night sweats and mood swings… oh my!
Most women might have to deal with symptoms associated with menopause, but at least their saving grace has been found in a variety of medications. Those medications, known as Hormone Replacement Therapy, might come in a wide array of applications - but what happens when some of them become scarce in supply?
That’s exactly the predicament many Australian women are finding themselves in at the moment.
So, why is there a shortage in supply and is it something we’re just supposed to get used to?

Ever heard of sleep hygiene? No, it’s not the act of washing your feet before you hop into bed… although, that probably wouldn’t go astray.
It’s more the steps you take to ensure a good night’s sleep.
So, what is best practice at bedtime? We’re getting between the sheets with a sleep expert to find out more.

A little bit gossip never hurt anybody… or so we tell ourselves.
What we know gossip to be now, is very different from how it once was.
From its old timey use during childbirth, to the more modern day concept of swapping secrets, and even its application as a tool for women’s safety, gossip has been through many, many phases.
So how do we feel about gossip in 2024?

Whether it be after a night out, or after we’ve dropped the car off for a service, most of us have booked a lift from a stranger through an app like Uber or Didi.
But what about letting our kids ride solo in an Uber? The ride share company has just announced it’ll start allowing teens to book a trip alone in select cities across the country.
Should parents be worried about their safety? Or relieved they won’t need to ferry them from activity to activity. We ask a child safety expert all about it.

It’s no secret that the cost of living has affected most of us.
But a new report into rental affordability in Australia has just revealed how dire things have gotten for the more than 30% of Aussies currently renting a home.So what’s the story here? Who has been most impacted by the rising cost of living, and what are we supposed to do about it?

Who is Meghan?
Mamamia this episode is so disappointing... fear mongering. You should look into how hard it actually is under the law to get a warrant to track or listen to a person. Police can not just track their ex's. This was a horrible one sided podcast episode that doesn't focus on the need for these powers to actually protect the community. So disappointing.
Great morning podcast bringing news to your ears in a fun and engaging way:)
Why not a 3 day week?
Great episode! In addition I would have loved to hear more about other symptoms before or during menstruation. In particular mental challenges such as mood swings, irritability, anxiety, depression (PMS/PMDD), which are so common, but so little talked about.
I'm legally blind, thankfully my husband is my carrer, when we go into the public, we do get treated in a negative way by some people, we have dealt with prejudice, I agree, disabled people are treated differently, it's why I don't go out much, I used to love going out.
Much rather be back in the office. I like the clear separation between work and home life, being able to switch off for the day and head home.
My heart and an enormous amount of gratitude goes out to all our health care workers who have all the same fears we all have, yet front up each day and put themselves and loved ones at higher risk. What a huge amount of stress added to an already stressful job. You are doing an amazing job and I’m sure every Australian would agree. Thank you so very much.
A comment routinely rolled out is that we are only 1.3% of emissions so whatever we do has no effect anyway. This episode does not address how this.
shit that was a great episode. would love to hear more from men who have changed their behaviour like this one. very honest and necessary conversation
Audio is terrible more often then not lately.
episode 123, I understand what it's like to live on centerlink, I get a disability payment, it barely covers living costs, everything goes up, but the payment dosen't, would love to work, but it's hard when you're legally blind.
I listened to this with an open mind, however got no new answers. 'Shame, shame' is valid.
Major issue with the current news segment that's spliced in - I was listening the other week and without warning, and only a single day after the episode's release, there was explicit Game of Thrones spoiler. It might not matter to some but when someone is listening to an episode recorded in February there shouldn't be a current-time spoiler just added in without concern for listeners. Thanks for spoiling the Night King for me and no doubt others.
i wish your news section was not a 'smart' podcast because if we don't download each episode everyday day, wgen we catch up on the ones we missed, we then have to listen to the same news over and over.. its quite frustrating. plus I would rather catch up on old news that I missed!
why do some of the episodes of the quicky have the news headlines while others don't?
Very informative, thanks The Quicky!
