Hello there and welcome to our new service industry podcast BarCode TSI, where we discuss all things service industry related.
We interview bartenders, servers, managers, and owners of bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and more. Our purpose is to shed some light on topics we all run into while doing our job. Some are fun, and some are hideous, but all are relevant to what we do on a daily basis. Even when we’re off the clock trying to enjoy our own time being served, we still end up busing our own tables, wiping off the condensation from the bar, stacking plates, and the list could go on forever.
There is definitely a love/hate relationship that goes on in this industry, and we want to bring the LOVE back to what we do.
Every interview is unique and informative, in it’s own way. This is a podcast to help us learn from each other through our personal experiences, and knowledge that has been passed down to us from our seniors.
Whether this is your first year, or your twentieth year in the service industry, there is something here for you.

On this episode meet Billy Cavallo. Billy got started bussing tables at the ripe young age of 14 and has since been in the industry, giving him 12 years experience. He has worked in just about every area of the service industry and is currently a bartender and a liquor brand ambassador. On this episode we are talking with Sebastian Miller. Sebastian first got started in the service industry in 1997 when he was in high school. His friend got him a job as a busser. He has worked in 9 different establishments fulfilling the duties as a busser, expediter, server, bartender, assistant manager, and General manager. Along with all of his service industry experience, Sebastian was also a COO for an energy drink company and helped organize promotional teams, educated vendors and sold into venues.
He has some hilarious stories for us on some of his worst and best moments. Episode Twelve meet Colleen Morrissey. Colleen got started as a go-go dancer and cocktail server. She learned to bartend by watching the bartenders flair and mix drinks and they helped her move behind the bar. She has high volume bartending experience in Atlantic City's Casino nightclub nightlife and has been doing it for 12 years.Colleen offers us a glimpse into casino style bartending and talks about the union that bartenders and servers are a part of. She has great advice for newbies in the industry and we'd love to know what you think!

Meet Jessica Ellis! Jessica has been in the service industry for 12 years. She got started in her home town in Montana at a local casino steakhouse. Bartending is her favorite gig in the industry and discusses many great perks you gain while working in this industry.
Jessica explains that not everyone can handle being in the service industry, but if they tried it out, it would teach respect, patience, and understanding with many other qualities to learn from.

On this episode meet Erin Wallace. She opened her first bar 13 years ago and has since opened opened 2 other establishments. The first being The Old Eagle in Manayunk, PA. The next being a craft beer bar in South Philadelphia that opened 8 years ago and only serves beer from micro breweries, called The Devil’s Den. Up to the most recent establishment opened 3 years ago, Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery. Barren Hill is a micro brewery that brews around 30 different unique beers.
Erin shares what it’s like owning and maintaining 3 bars and restaurants. She believes it’s important to know the industry before diving in and opening up a bar and she explains why. Most of her time is dedicated to each place every day of the week, but plans to make some time for herself soon.

Meet Joseph Corvino! Joe has been in the service industry for 16 years and in management for 8 years. He got started when he was 16 years old working down the shore as a dishwasher. Joe has done many different duties within the industry and recently joined the management team at Bistro Romano.This episode Joe talks about great ways to give incentives to the Back Of House workers with reward and agreed upon bonuses. Incentives always help to get your staff to stay on top of their game, and to work harder.

Meet Ryan Fenton! Ryan has been in the service industry for 14 years. His first full service restaurant was at Mcfaddens where he started off running food. He climbed the industry ladder from running food all the way up to being a general manager and talks about the struggle of taking a pay cut when moving into management. On episode six we talk with Carole Ann Caporaletti. Carole has been in the service industry over 20 years. She got started back when she was 16 at Pizza Hut. Months later she moved to serving tables and then started bartending when she turned 18 years old. In her career she has served, bartended and worked in distribution. Carole offers great advice on taking advice and on being the product of your services.
