Her whole life, May Jasper has felt nervous about going to the hairdresser. She didn’t know anything about fashion, and she didn’t understand all the questions they would ask like “do you want more volume in your hair?” (Why, is that gonna make it louder?) And so she fantasised about a world where hairdressers were like plumbers. Just getting the job done, no questions asked. This episode, May finds out why that is actually a terrible idea. Produced by May Jasper.Recording and sound design by Andrew Callaghan.Original music by Kent Sutherland. Thanks to Marisa Ganci from the Chisholm Institute and Lisa from Birdie Hair Salon. If you would like to know more about the hairdressing courses offered by Chisholm Institute, check out their website: chisholm.edu.au/career-fields/hair-beauty-and-makeup Or if you want to get your haircut by Lisa, you can find her details at: birdiehair.com.au Thanks also to the Human Ordinary team for their editorial advice.+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +Human/Ordinary is produced in Melbourne and Sydney by Sam Loy, May Jasper, Mic Cavazzini, and Cinnamon Nippard. For more on the show...Website: humanordinary.comFacebook: facebook.com/humanordinarypodcastTwitter: @humanordinarypc Hosted on Acast. Episode 31 - Fake Art

Episode 31 - Fake Art

2019-10-1223:28

Even though many people think only of dot-style paintings when considering “Aboriginal art”, it is actually as diverse as the many Indigenous nations who live across the country we now call Australia. Each group has its own unique culture with different languages, different stories and songs, different tools and different art styles. But increasingly, this art is being exploited in the souvenir market where ‘Aboriginal-style’ designs are manufactured in places like Indonesia and China. This story explores the relationship between Aboriginal art, culture and identity, and what can be done about the fake art market. Produced by Cinnamon Nippard.Big thanks to Kellyann Drill, Abe Muriata, Joann Russo, Stephanie Parkin, Lee Elsdon, Gabrielle Sullivan and the Human/Ordinary team. For more information on this issue, check out the following links:Indigenous Art Code: https://indigenousartcode.org/The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair: https://www.daaf.com.au/Arts Law Centre of Australia: https://www.artslaw.com.au/artists-in-the-black/Girringun Aboriginal Art Centre: http://art.girringun.com.au/Waringarri Aboriginal Arts: https://www.waringarriarts.com.au/donations/warringarri/Bibi Barba’s case, click here: https://www.copyright.com.au/bibi/https://www.sbs.com.au/nitv/nitv-news/article/2018/03/23/indigenous-artist-faces-uphill-legal-battle-after-polish-hotel-allegedly-stole+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +Human/Ordinary is produced in Melbourne and Sydney by Sam Loy, Cinnamon Nippard, Mic Cavazzini, and May Jasper.Score a t-shirt, bonus content, and ad-free episodes by subscribing at pozible.com/profile/humanordinary-podcastFor more on the show...Website: humanordinary.comFacebook: facebook.com/humanordinarypodcastTwitter: @humanordinarypcPlanet Broadcasting: planetbroadcasting.comSponsors and promo codes...MVMT: mvmt.com/human Hosted on Acast. Geoff Allen has been around. As a ringer in the 50s and 60s, it was his job to tame wild horses and drove massive herds of cattle throughout the outback country.
