When the world was hit with the COVID-19 pandemic, most businesses were left scrambling to adapt. And while many companies weren’t able to continue, others found ways to pivot and (in the process) were able to diversify and elevate their businesses in profound new ways. Such was the case for today’s guest, Whitney Eckis, Founder and CEO of Eckis Marketing, a creative communications agency based in San Diego, California. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic was an extremely challenging time for her company, Whitney was able to embrace it as an opportunity. But there’s always something to be learned from your setbacks, and ultimately they make the breakthroughs that much more rewarding! Today on the show, we chat with Whitney about her journey as an entrepreneur, how to build a community around your brand on social media, and the importance of being able to adapt to changing circumstances. She discusses the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic before describing their pivot into Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) with the launch of their CBD coffee brand Get Supr® and the powerful impact it has had on their marketing agency. The COVID-19 Virus has wreaked havoc on so many areas of our lives, especially our livelihoods in running a photography business. Now that we are over a year into this, many jurisdictions are open for photography, but that comes with its own host of issues. In this video, TheLawTog®- Rachel Brenke - talks about how to evaluate your existing contract for reschedule/cancellation provisions and a way to shift cancellation risks to client at this point in pandemic.   Newly released Client Acknowledgement of Risk Form >> https://thelawtogshop.com/products/covid-19-client-acknowledgement-of-cancellation-risk
I love helping other entrepreneurs.  Business to Business. . .YES, please!  I thrive off helping others get a piece of that entrepreneurship pie.  And this, this is why I love adding commercial photography into my business and why I think you should too. As photographers, we know how important visual imagery is.  We are not just selling photography, but a feeling, the aesthetic, the image for the brand.  Many business owners are not embracing the importance of visual imagery, but most likely, they don’t know where to start.  My friend, this is where you come in.Let me break it down for you as to why I believe you can easily bring commercial photography to your biz and why you absolutely should.⠀⠀1. You already have clients. You may have a client (or two) that you take family photos for each year.  Maybe they’re a doctor, a lawyer, or a small shop owner.  Cross market!  They already know your work.  They already trust you with their personal photography needs.  Talk to them about what you could do for their business.  When you already have them in the door, they’re more likely to buy from you.2. You are an authority as a biz owner – you can guide them and be the go-to in commercial photography.  I know, I know – you’re thinking “I don’t want to be a coach”, but you already do this as a portrait photographer.  You’re already giving tips on style, locations, props, etc.  You have the knowledge to show business owners why photography and imagery is so important, what commercial licensing means, what to use or not to use on social, etc.  ⠀3. The potential income from commercial photography is HUGE!  You can charge more for copyright transfer, or an extensive commercial license.  Some business owners are just going to want all the things – well guess what – you get all the payment! 4. You already have the skills.  Product photography, headshots, marketing, etc.  These are things that you’ve already been doing all along in a round about way, i.e., think shoes, rings, flowers, setting up flat lays, etc. (wedding photographers) or appliances, furniture, etc., (real estate photographers).  You just haven’t been selling to vendors.  The market for this is huge and the possibilities are endless.⠀⠀⠀5. You should have multiple revenue streams.  If the last year and a half has taught us anything, it has proven that we need to have multiple avenues for income.  In a world where many were scrambling to supplement their lost income, those that already had other avenues were able to refocus their efforts.  Utilize the skills you already have and see there is more money to be made. So, there you have it.  This is your opportunity to stand out among other photographers simply by offering commercial photography, making more money and making an impact while you do it.
We’ve been spending the last few videos learning what needs to be included in your contracts, but now it’s time to branch out and learn how to handle cancellations. Your contract is key when it comes to cancellations, but you still need to know how to navigate these situations with finesse.Whether you need to cancel or your client decides to cancel, we’ll learn what we can and cannot do when it comes to cancelling and how to balance putting your biz first while keeping a positive client relationship.⠀⠀⠀https://thelawtog.com/cancellations-substitute-photographer-legalities/
Every single day you are bombarded with experts telling you how to run your business, but what do they really know? Recently, we learned that many of the people giving out friendly advice are steering us into dangerous, and potentially illegal, territory.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Your contract can be your best friend especially if you're a photographer if it includes the correct contract provisions. Rachel is going to teach you the exact tools you need to be a legal business and avoid trouble in this short audio.⠀https://thelawtog.com/5-must-have-contract-provisions-to-prevent-issues/
We live in a world full of experts sitting behind their keyboard telling you the best way to run your business. Yes, they are experts in their field, but the reality is that they are not experts in legalities.  They are experts in photography. Very few have a law degree or understand how the legal system works for a business owner. Stop listening to the lies these “experts” tell you and start prioritizing YOUR photography business. The experts telling you how to run your business haven’t put their blood, sweat, and tears into your biz. They also will not willingly tell you that not everyone is going to succeed in business and some will fail miserably. You can avoid the pitfalls of being a business owner by becoming self aware of your weaknesses, finding the correct expert (that’s me!) to get your business legal with a solid plan. https://thelawtog.com/industry-leaders-are-lying-to-you/
You hear it all the time - "Riches are in the niches", "you must niche down to be successful" which yes - absolutely. BUT, I'm telling you, you have to take it a step further. To build your business, you need to get soooo niched down in four major areas that it's actually TERRIFYING. So terrifying, that you're waking up with cold sweats in the middle of the night wondering how you'll attract consumers and how you're going to pay your bills. Listen in to find out these four areas and how with these, you'll grow your business into what you've envisioned all along.

As entrepreneurs, our natural inclination is to want to put our best foot forward on social media, but building an authentic following is often about being as vulnerable as possible. Today on the show my guest is Jamie Otis, and she joins me to talk about her journey toward vulnerability as a TV personality and social media influencer, and how this connects to her process as an entrepreneur. Jamie is a dynamic American TV personality, registered nurse, entrepreneur, and TV host, having been on shows such as The Bachelor, Bachelor Pad, and Married at First Sight. In this episode, Jamie shares the story of how she ended up being selected to appear on these widely viewed shows and the shame she felt about admitting that she grew up in a trailer park on them. She talks about meeting her husband on Married at First Sight and building a career based partly on their relationship involving the podcast they co-host together – Hot Marriage. Cool Parents. Our conversation covers the inspiration Jamie became to other women after she shared about her background and how this helped her build an audience connected by authenticity and vulnerability. We also get into Jamie’s processes during pregnancy and motherhood, moving toward accepting her body, and how she is helping others do the same through her course, Become Body Positive. Be sure to tune into this great conversation all about using your story for a purpose and a business!
