We talk about everything ranging from   His path to opening a yoga studio  His spiritual influences   The evolution of yoga Business ownership Injuries in yoga How he would explain yoga to an alien :)     This was a really fun interview. Across the board, Quinn is such a playful person who doesn’t take himself too seriously so we had some good laughs during this episode. So without further a- do...here is Quinn.
Here's another special episode between AW and Nick Studholme.  It was a fun & fact filled conversation specifically about tendon rehab because AW jacked up his lateral epicondyle and was seeking advice from Nick. It started as a conversation on the phone before AW realized it would be a great podcast conversation, as well as an opportunity to give AW crap about another stupid injury.  Enjoy.

He also is the person AW considers to be his yoga teacher.  Jim has recently come out with a 'yoga' app for people to take yoga on demand & live, and you can find more info at https://tejasyogachicago.com/
In this special episode, Adam & his good buddy Mike Stella (ATC, owner of the Movement Underground) talk about what 'Grinds Our Gears' in our shared movement profession. We don't hold back in this wide ranging conversation.  Note: This is not a traditional Movement Guild Podcast because Jessica wasn't there and Adam actually gave his viewpoints about things in the movement profession, rather than just interview others. It's a long episode, clocking in at 1hour45 minutes and there are swear words, including an occasional F Bomb dropped.  This episode serves as the 'season ending' palette cleanser of sorts.  It was fun. It might be controversial, but it's worth the listen.

S2E6: Helena Esmonde

S2E6: Helena Esmonde

2021-04-0152:43

This week JC & AW interview Helena Esmonde, who is a PT & entrepreneur who invented the Vesbitular First Goggles. Vestibular First, which are infrared video goggles that allow you to see the eyes in the dark.  Understanding what the eyes are doing in the dark provides a tremendous amount of information about the central state of the nervous system. In this great conversation, Helena shares with us her path & what led her to develop this great piece of equipment.  We also discussed all things vestibular, and she is a great educator that is able to convey information in a digestible manner.    More info can be found at https://vestibularfirst.com/   Enjoy the conversation.       Helena specializes in treating patients with neurologic, balance, and vestibular (inner ear balance system) conditions. She received her psychology undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and graduated Cum Laude from Marquette University’s Doctoral Physical Therapy program in 2005. She worked at an acute care hospital for 8 years and developed the vestibular program there to help address the needs of dizzy patients, unfortunately without access to infrared video goggles but luckily with quality continuing education courses and mentorship. When she transitioned to the outpatient setting in 2014, she gained access to infrared video goggles and found that they vastly improved her ability to accurately diagnose and treat vestibular conditions, particularly for more complex patients, such as those with concurrent post-concussive syndrome and BPPV. Helena became Vestibular Competencied at Emory University in 2015, certified to treat Cervicogenic Dizziness in 2016, and assisted teaching the lab portion of an Advanced Concussion course for North American Seminars in 2017. In 2018, Helena completed the clinical practice requirements and examination to attain the certification as a Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS). Dedicated to student education, she has served as a teaching assistant at Temple, Jefferson, Neumann, and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, and earned an advanced clinical instructor certification. Helena has also presented at organizational and area Vestibular Special Interest Groups, Balance Center rounds at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and the Penn Medicine Mind Your Brain Conference. As an avid runner herself, Helena enjoys volunteering at local races to support her community.

Charlie has consulted for teams in all major North American sports as well as Manchester United and Manchester City in the English Premiere League. In this conversation, we learn about Charlies background and philosophy and also if Marvel or DC comics is better :-) Charlie is amazingly knowledgable and you're sure to get some great info out of this conversation so enjoy.

We also talk about fascia & yoga.  It was really fun!  Enjoy
In this episode, JC & AW have a fantastic conversation with Dr. Emily Splichal, DPM about the feet & also being entrepreneurial.  As a Podiatrist, Human Movement Specialist, and Global Leader in Barefoot Science and Rehabilitation, Dr. Splichal has developed a keen eye for movement dysfunction and neuromuscular control during gait. Originally trained as a surgeon through Beth Israel Medical 2Center in New York City and Mt Vernon Hospital in Mt Vernon, NY, in 2017 Dr. Splichal put down her scalpel and shifted her practice to one that is built around functional and regenerative medicine. Welcome back.  It's been awhile since we've brought you a new podcast & we're excited to be back with some changes. Basically, life got busy for both of us & as we've transitioned (pivoted) during the lockdown, a transition made sense.  Consider this a wrap up of one & roll out of The Movement Guild Podcast. TMG podcast has a bunch of great conversations lined up with movement leaders. In this conversation, we catch up with Nick and find out what we've been up to. Nick also tells us a lot of what he's been studying, including the use of Moxy & breathing tools with his patients.  It was a great conversation & it's great to be back.
Join Nick and Adam for a great conversation with movement therapist Lenny Parracino. We discussed the importance of application, what is actually happening with manual therapy and Lenny’s viewpoint on the integration of movement and bodywork.  It was an information filled hour so listen and enjoy! Be sure to find more about Lenny at www.softtissueintegration.com   and on instagram @soft_tissue_therapy
Join Nick and Adam for a great conversation with Australian Chiropractor Brett Jarosz where we discuss his approach to treatment from a functional neurology perspective.  We get in depth about why understanding the central mechanisms of the brain is important to a movement based approach to treatment, and how Brett integrates this  practical approach to treatment.  Brett is a practicing chiropractor who has been consulting in private practice since December 2008. He has a strong practice interest in athletic and sporting injuries; corrective exercise therapy; running biomechanics/technique efficiency and optimizing athletic performance. Besides sports chiropractic, Brett also has practice interests in neuro-orthopaedic rehabilitation, as well as pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation. He is the founder of Erepsonline, which is the "only custom exercise prescription software with in built in rehabilitation programs and integrated outcome measures".  For more information and a free 2 month trial membership, check out: www.erepsonline.com/register/code Enter the following codes:  for Australians: 2MOVEGUYSAUS for all other international listeners: 2MOVEGUYSINTERNATIONAL    and for more information about Brett, check out: https://www.optimizechiro.com/brett-jarosz-chiropractor   Make sure you have your note taking equipment for this one because it's chock full of great information.
It's been awhile, but Nick and Adam are the guests on this episode. N & A had a good conversation about a lot of different clinical type stuff, including pain, the vestibular system, biomechanics (does it matter?) and what they're focusing on clinically and professionally.  It pretty much does represent one of their non-recorded conversations, but with a few less cuss words.  We did our best to stir a little controversy, not sure if we did, so listen in and let us know what you think.
In this episode, the guys had a great conversation with physical therapist Tony Mikla. Tony is one of the smartest, humblest and also quietest people you'll come across, and has worked in numerous environments including Exos (formerly Athletes Performance).  The conversation touched upon philosophy, blood flow restriction, motor control, strength & conditioning and much more.     Learn more about Tony at https://www.kimeperformance.com/ and all social media at kimeperformance
