Coach Thomas Alward is one of the four cornerstones of Goodrich Athletics as he has been coaching at Goodrich for over 33 years. Not many programs still have a coach who has dedicated so much of his time and energy for so long but Coach Alward does it because he loves the kids. Coach Alward has been coaching for a total of 49 years, with his coaching career started at Flint Central becoming their Head JV coach then at his alma mater Burton Bendle. Coach Alward has not only been dedicated to Goodrich for almost 33 years, but he was a dedicated sales rep for Jostens for 35 years. Coach Alward is married to his high school sweetheart Darlene, they have two children Trevor and Jennifer. In Coach Alwards free time he enjoys watching the Detroit Tigers, golf, and of course spending time with his 6 grandchildren (Collin, Emma, Luke, Delaney, Neely, and Grady). A little something interesting about Coach Alward is he is a graduate of The University of Nebraska where he played on a National Championship team. Coach Alward was also drafted in the National Football League (NFL) to the NY Jets. He later signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Alward was the first player to ever sign a NFL Contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
