Description

Since 1989, the National Film Registry has selected 25 films each year that are deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant". In each episode, Mike Natale (Yahoo!) and Tom Lorenzo (Men's Journal) bring on a special guest to take a look at one of the films from the registry, to get to the heart of why these films matter.

"We all go a little mad sometimes" Patrick Cotnoir (The George Lucas Talk Show) checks in to You're Missing Out once more, this time to discuss Alfred Hitchcock's hugely influential horror film, Psycho (1960). And of course, it wouldn't be a Patrick Cotnoir episode without some Star Wars ephemera talk. So we'll also be discussing the 1985 made-for-TV movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, which is arguably slightly less influential than Psycho.Watch the episode on YouTube hereHosts:Michael NataleTwitterInstagramLetterboxd Tom LorenzoTwitterInstagramLetterboxd Producer:Kyle LamparTwitterInstagram Guest:Patrick CotnoirTwitterThe George Lucas Talk Show Follow the Show:TwitterInstagramWebsite Music by Mike Natale Follow the Show:TwitterInstagramWebsite Music by Mike Natale

We're taking our own "movie trip through filmland" as we take a look at the 2023 National Film Registry inductees. Livestreamed on YouTube mere hours after the list was announced, hosts Mike Natale and Tom Lorenzo sat down with friend of the show Anthony DiCaprio (standing in for usual producer Kyle Lampar). Only Anthony knew what films were selected as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress this year. You'll hear Mike and Tom's real-time reactions to the selections, including a few films they themselves submitted to the NFR for consideration. The You're Missing Out team were hoping to have some much needed rest over Labor Day weekend. They thought "Let's do a simple, silly bonus episode this week." They thought "Let's get some friends together, let's find an idea that's short, and fun, and will only take about an hour." They were gravely mistaken. This episode was ill-advised. You're Missing Out is normally about the National Film Registry, but there are, of course, other equally prestigious honors given out annually. In this bonus episode, we take a look at one such honor: Every year since 1985, the editors of People magazine have selected one celebrity to declare the Sexiest Man Alive. The criteria? The man must be culturally, historically, or aesthetically attractive. This week on You’re Missing Out, we’ll take a look at all of these celebs, to try to get to the heart of why they were selected, and why they’re still sexy. This week, we’re joined by guests Bella Zaydenberg and Carrie McCabe to talk about People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive. Hosts:Michael NataleTwitterLetterboxd Tom LorenzoTwitterLetterboxd Producer:Kyle LamparTwitter Guests:Bella Zaydenberg Carrie McCabeTwitterAin't It Scary with Sean & Carrie Follow the Show:TwitterInstagramWebsite Music by Mike Natale Follow the Show:TwitterInstagramWebsite Music by Mike Natale
