Many people often assume that health care providers are healthier than the general population. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, has shined a concerning light on the physical and mental health of health care workers (i.e. NURSES)– and their lack of sleep. Nearly 1 in 3 nurses may suffer from insomnia, while more than 1 in 8 admits to taking medications to help them stay awake, according to a recent study.Anyone who has ever experienced any type of sleep disturbance or sleep disorder knows how incredibly frustrating this can be. It can be hard to focus and make decisions. The simplest tasks become overwhelming. Do not underestimate the power of sleep. Let’s not even talk about how you toss and turn all night long. How you wake up constantly, sometimes for over an hour each time, unable to fall back asleep. The next morning, as you virtually crawl your zombied self to your coffee maker in the kitchen, you can’t even handle how tired you feel. How are you even going to function and do your job effectively?! Health care workers face many stressors, and many studies have shown that sleep plays a major role. How can we improve sleep quality for health care workers? In this episode, we’ll focus on what you can do to help your body get back on track and sleep. Every 100 minutes a teen takes their own life. Only 30 percent of depressed teens are being treated for it. For more than a decade, suicide rates have been increasing in Black children and adolescents, and a new study says the sharpest rise occurred among young girls.Black teens in the U.S. experience more illness, poverty, and discrimination than their White counterparts. These issues put them at higher risk for depression and other mental health problems. Yet, Black youth are less likely to seek treatment or be supported in seeking help for their mental well-being. This is why the second leading cause of death among Black children ages 10 to 19 is suicide. Take steps to keep your mood and mental well-being steady throughout the year. How can you take steps to protect yourself, and the teens in your life from depressive episodes or seasonal affective disorder? And what nutritional deficiency may be the catalyst for a more depressive and/or anxious mood? Why having a “community” based plan before depressive episodes arise is critical? Many parents, do not notice the difference between depression and normal 15- and 16-year-old behavior until after the fact. Teen depression doesn’t have to mean a lifetime of struggle, and it certainly doesn’t have to end in suicide. Making the impossible, possible is easier than it seems if you plan to succeed.Entrepreneur life is a struggle, especially when you are the first in your family to make strides in a new direction without having the expertise or access to make it easily or quickly happen. So what do you do when you are the only one who can make it happen? Well, you make your open rule book, while staying committed to being your authentic self, despite the naysayers. And you prioritize your physical and emotional well-being by choosing to make healthier choices so you have the energy and mindset to overcome the setbacks ahead. In this episode you learn:⁃ what is like to be a lifelong vegan ⁃ why lack of experience doesn’t mean you can’t succeed in business ⁃  how making the choice to keep upgrading and pivoting will keep you on course to your goals ⁃ how to go from blogger to author ⁃ how preparation leads to opportunity⁃ how to get the bag first and figure out the details later⁃ what it’s like to go from selling your food product from your car to being a full-blown food manufacturer⁃ how to protect your sanity through entrepreneurial struggles-why young people need to stop being hard on themselves-plus some holistic wellness homework for you to incorporate into your lifestyle  this yearChef Ayindé Howell is a lifelong vegan and food activist based in LA, working to decolonize the food industry. He began selling vegan food with his mother out of the back of their Toyota minivan when he was 13 years old and has evolved into manufacturing vegan food for the masses. He started iEatGrass, LLC. first and foremost, as a solution to the lack of diversity in the plant-based food sector. He wanted better tasting and more options for his own lifestyle, but the mission has evolved heavily since then. Representation is so important and while we see plenty of people of color working in the service part of the industry, there is little to no representation in the area of ownership. Most people don’t realize there is a manufacturing side to food and there are no people of color feeding other people of color. Chef Ayindé’s culture, experience and perspective are heavy influencers on the flavors and textures of the food he creates, making it unique in the plant-based world. The food industry still needs to be decolonized and he is doing his part by manufacturing amazing plant-based food for his own community first, and then the world. The more people see themselves represented in a vegan lifestyle, the more they will be willing to participate in it. iEatGrass, LLC. is committed to giving 5% of all revenue to organizations that directly support and uplift Black people. You can get his food directly on his website, www.ieatgrass.com for nationwide delivery. His original Mac & Yease can be found at Whole Foods stores in Southern California, Las Vegas, Arizona, and Hawaii. His Jalapeño Mac & Yease launched at Costco stores in the Los Angeles region in May 2021 and just launched at Costco in Texas, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, and New Orleans this month.Check out Ayindé’s songDisclaimer: This Podcast is not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any illness or disease. I pushed the release date of this episode back, because I know many have been overwhelmed by the things currently transpiring in the world. ⁣⁣There’s a good chance though you know at least one person with autism, which is now the most well-publicized pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) there is. There’s been an alarming rise in autism rates over the past 20–30 years, leading to a growing body of research and improvements in treatment/development.⁣⁣The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1 in 68 kids in the U.S. have autism. Boys though are five times more likely to be diagnosed with #autism than girls.⁣This increase shows just how important it is to detect these issues in your children. The sooner you can determine whether or not your child has autism, the sooner you can go about finding the best ways to enhance and encourage their mental development.⁣This episode is all about the holistic health journey that my family took when my youngest nephew was diagnosed with being on the autism spectrum. Shoutout to all the parents that have a differently-abled child or a child on the autism spectrum. I know it’s not easy, you are the unsung superheroes of the world. People say you should move more in order to fight heart disease, but food also is an extremely important component. Cooking more meals at home gives everyone in the family an opportunity to build better eating habits, one plate at a time. Many people are now switching to a ketogenic lifestyle, eating overloads of heart disease activating foods like animal-based products (it’s so horrifying to see when I look on social media the pounds and pounds of cheese, consuming slabs and slabs of bacon, plus the stacks and stacks of chicken breast that people are eating on repeat) all because they are extremely low carb and they got to get those “fats” in. Is it POSSIBLE to stay plant-based, alkaline and be keto at the same time? Class is in session!! ARTICLES1. The idea of food as a tool for health is not necessarily new. What we eat affects our health and wellbeing. Some of that is also influenced by the source and type of food consumed. Numerous studies point out that preparing food at home is associated with a healthier diet and greater fruit and vegetable intake. Yet, recent findings suggest that more Americans are eating away from home (a 42% increase) and preparing food at home less often (a 25% decrease). So for this special week, we are focused on helping upgrade your wellness, by making strategic holistic health choices. So tune in as we get into all things cooking: things that you want to know, mistakes that you may have been making in the kitchen and how to correct them. Food isn’t like medicine, it is medicine, so let’s veg up and cook to nourish. REFERENCESAmerican Heart AssociationHeart Disease: It Can Happen at Any Age | Features | CDCCONNECT WITH CHEF SUShttps://linktr.ee/veganosaurusSubmit questions to: veggieschoolpodcast@gmail.com Let’s stay connected, y’all!!Social media FB-@letsvegaboutitpodcastInstagram-@letsvegaboutitpodcast  Disclaimer: This Podcast is not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent or cure any illness or disease.
