What is a Sound Mind?

What is a Sound Mind?

2024-04-0738:23

Because we don’t want to over-spiritualize mental health, we’re in danger of under-spiritualizing it. The Bible describes something called a "sound mind". What is it? What does it feel like? And how can I get it? Or do I already have it?

Jesus told stories, and they weren't technically true. But they represented true things. And his listeners would often be able to find themselves in the stories. In the story of the Prodigal Son, where do you find yourself? Listen to find out more.
As we come to the end of 2 Kings, we read about two kings who each interact with God's word. They have drastically different responses, and drastically different outcomes. Which one can you relate to more?

God is a Healer

2024-03-1727:16

In 1 and 2 Kings, God heals people. Miraculously. Almost unbelievably. And it begs the question: Does God still heal people today?
King Hezekiah led Judah to an unparalleled level of faithfulness to God during the 29 years of his reign, not by use of his power or authority as king, but by setting an example for others to follow. We look to him as an example of just how influential and impactful our own choices to live faithfully for the Lord can be on the world around us.

Son of a Nebat

Most American Christians don't bow down to metallic or wooden trinkets. But that doesn't mean we don't have idols. Listen to hear more about the northern kingdom's demise and why the slide into destruction began in the first place.
2 Kings 3-8 and the story of Jehu is jarring, to say the least. But there's an important lesson in the story, and it applies very directly to our lives today. Listen to find out more.
Elisha was an incredible man who performed more recorded miracles than anyone in the Bible other than Jesus. But how did it all start? And in what ways can we follow Elisha's example of faith?
In 1 Kings 21, we see a tragic story about King Ahab's insatiable desire for more. It reminds us of a few other stories in the Old Testament of men. And in each case, destruction follows their unchecked desire to have more.

Elijah is one of the all-time greats when it comes to Bible heroes. But 700 years after Elijah lived, something was written about him by the half-brother of Jesus that's very interesting and remarkably applicable to our lives today.
In 1 Kings 11-16, we see Israel become increasingly unsettled and eventually divided. We find many examples of failed kings and prophets as they abandon God (and some who don’t). We also discover that God is uncompromising both in his character and pursuit of his people. This section starts a trajectory of generations who mostly live in a “compromised community.” The core issue isn’t necessarily the leader, but rather the idols that are promoted or ignored within that community. We all have to face idols and attachments
Solomon, in the Bible, is a confusing figure. He's the richest man in the world, builds the first temple in Jerusalem, dedicates it to God, and also has 700 wives and 300 concubines. So, is he a good guy or a bad guy? Listen to find out more.
In 1 Kings, God grants Solomon a wish. Solomon chooses to ask for wisdom rather than health or wealth or prosperity, and it delights God to give it to him. If God granted you a wish, what would you ask for? Would it be wisdom? And if you received it, would simply recieving wisdom make a difference in your life?
1 and 2 Kings is a divinely-inspired account of what happens when we reject God. As we jump into these two books of the Bible, it's important to consider what decisions were made early on that end up leading the Israelites towards destruction. Listen to find out more.
Imitating the Angels

Imitating the Angels

2023-12-2420:48

What did the angels bring to Jesus on the night he was born? They worshipped him. And then they went back to heaven, and they've been worshipping him ever since. In fact, they always will be. What does God want from us this Christmas? Could it be as simple as... our worship?
Forgetting Jesus

Forgetting Jesus

2023-12-1745:11

During a very busy time of the year, Mary and Joseph forgot Jesus in Jerusalem when he was 12 years old. Right now, we're in a very busy time of the year. It is possible that we, too, have forgotten Jesus?
Has there been a time in your life that you've felt like you were in a wilderness? Do you feel like you're in one now? Why does God allow us to go through those? Does He ever intentionally take us into them?
Who you say Jesus is? A nice man? A good teacher? An important figure? Or God in the flesh? The Savior of the World? This is the most important question a human faces in their life.
Every good thing that we enjoy comes from God. That's what the Bible says. But what's the best thing God's ever given you? And have you thanked Him for it recently?
