PodTear - A GodTear podcast

New starts and new beginnings, PodTear is a new direction from what was originally the Rookie Podcast, and its only fitting that with such a name we are looking at the new game from SFG called GodTear

Hosted by BigGrumpyGamer, and with commentary from friends and fellow gamers

Thank you for listening, and justifying this strange hobby of ours.

The Half Episode Jason and I keep on top of all the Season 4 changes by reviewing Scalpel and Skatha, and with enough time that I was able to upload it in time too. Its a crazy world in which we live.
In this episode (lockdown quality)Matt gets the chance to review the new champion coming to GodTear, Keera.  He takes a card by card review of this new Slayer, and her very intriguing dragon companions.  There is a very quick dive on the stats and skills, as well as and attempt to explain just how good he thinks Keera is within the game and as part of the slayer class. This podcast episode is also available via our new Youtube channel, alongside cards and model renders.Theme MusicStrength Of The Titans by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/5744-strength-of-the-titansLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/
Welcome to the first episode of PodTear - A GodTear podcast. As we are approaching the release date for GodTear, Matt speaks with Steve Margetson about the new game from SFG.  We go into detail on the process SFG took in developing the game, looking into the benefits and trials of Early Access, the interaction with the community generated during the Kickstarter campaign, and then the tribulations of entering closed play testing. We also discuss future plans, some of the new champions we have seen in artwork, potential arrival time of the second wave of models to retail and why the waves were created in the first place.  Finally we look at how the Campaign system will alter the normal games of GodTear, as well as how an OPD might be affected by the option to run Campaign events rather than just tournaments.

Well, I wonder what this is?
In this episode Matt talks to David Cameron about the last set of models released in the Rookie Draft.  They review each of the models and their feelings on the final rules.Matt also quickly grabbed a chat with Bryce when he was at the English Championships and asks him the same questions that were asked off air by the general public.. its called creative journalism!
Well hello again!Matt and Jason talk to Jamie Perkins about the full errata release.  We review all the changes, in the only way we can (as two mid-table scrubs?).  We try our best to look into everything that is going on.  There might be a more indepth look at the Cooks and a few of our favourite models as we move through though.
Matt goes through Layne, Amber, Knuckles, Edge and Gaffer with David Cameron and Josh Niemczyh.  We try and cover all of them as much as we can, and also make predictions on how they might work with their respective captains.  Josh also regales us about just how good Knuckles is, a lot.I'd like to thank SFG profusely for allowing me to bring David and Josh into the episode. If you would like to interact more with The Rookie we have a facebook group now at https://www.facebook.com/The-Rookie-A-Guild-Ball-Podcast-1831489706928770/.  There you can find pictures of the Gaffer model that SFG kindly sent me to review. In addition there is a review of said model on The Rookie's youtube channel (yeah I made one more or less so I could get the review done).  You can find the review video at https://youtu.be/jqtL2sU3bsg

Captains, Cooks, Miners and ErrataIn the midst on one of the busiest days in Season 4, potentially one of the busiest days in Guild Ball related podcasting, even we can't resist talking about everything and hoping someone is listening. And all while I'm quite tired and not entirely well. You're welcome. In this episode Jason and I discuss more or less everything we have available to us.  We take a hot takes look at the four new captains, a flying visit on the cooks, a short dive into the Miners, and finally a fairly long depth chat about the major balancing changes that have been introduced in the Errata..It's a good day to be a Guild Ball fan!
Long time no seeWe're back after the winter break, and in this episode Jason and Matt talk about their experiences at a team tournament.  We go through the games we played, and explain just why Jaime Perkins is the perfect team player! We also go through some suggested content from our facebook friends.  We talk about the upcoming errata, what we would like to happen for our guilds and what we actually think will change.  We also look forward to the Rookie play test event (not our event, apparently, Jason has cleared up that small delusion for me).  We get our game designer hats on, ill fitting though they are, and discuss the sort of things we would like to see in our guilds.  And we also touch on a more long term project of ours, to discuss our opinions on what new players should do to improve their game, and what our thoughts are on the guilds for completely new players. We are, after all, about the Rookies out there.
(NSFW) It's ChristmasJason and Matt (mostly Matt) let their hair down, and have a long rambling chat with Alex and Ryan from the Firm.  We have been very careful in the naming of this episode...In either case, the conversation was supposed to be about wrapping up the year as well as look forward into the new year.  However Rum was involved (Matt again), and no one really managed to stay on topic, so what you have is basically 4 guys sitting in a metaphorical pub talking about Guild Ball. The resulting 2 and a bit hours of content are carefully divided over both podcast channels for you to consume at your leisure.I've not go too heavy on the editing on this one, I really did want people to realise how much we all went off on tangents...Anyway, hope you enjoy, and if you want to know the result of the "Pick a Guild" for Jason then you will need to download the 2nd part of this episode on The Firm.
The Rookie DraftIn this episode, Jason and I talk to Sherwin about the Rookie draft.  At least that was the plan, however for the most part we just have a really good chat about how Sherwin is approaching the characters, the process he is looking at to deal with some of the shock results, and his general methods for handling community events and player driven plotFrankly we had a fantastic time talking to himAnd yes, if you haven't read any of the Season 4 story then there are Spoilers herein.. you've been warned! To round off the episode Jason and I review our time at Steamcon, and some of the games we played during the LCQ.  We also do a quick chat about the Keynote, but you can hear about all that stuff elsewhereIf you want to support The Rookie then you could always use the link below, buy your plastic habit from The Outpost, and we'll get some support for running future events!http://the-outpost.co.uk/aff/21
The Farmers reviewIn this episode Jason and I discusses the season 4 Farmers with Domonic Westerland, S3 Farmer player, Grange cosplayer mastermind and all round nice guy.  We talk about the Guild we all played for the previous season, and what we think of the changes that have taken place as we move into the new seasonJason and I are then fortunate enough to talk through the development of the new Farmers cards with Bryce "Aggressively Scottish" Johnston. Farmers Captain, French national champion and also all round nice guy (Its a theme in this community.. the all round nice guy bit).  We go through the theme of the farmers and some of the changes which we thought Bryce could give us some specific insight intoIf you like the episode please visit the new Rookie podcast page on FacebookIn addition the Rookie is now part of "The Outpost Affiliate" program.  To support the podcast and potentially increase the chances of us running tournaments at The Outpost In Sheffield, then visit them at the following link, buy your wonderful gaming items and we will get a bit of help from them moving forwardhttp://the-outpost.co.uk/aff/21
Coin Wars We talk Coin Wars with local pundit and owner of The Wolves Glade, Mr Dave Millington, about his upcoming Coin Wars. Jason and I are both very excited by this project and we think all of you should be two.. all 8 or 9 of you. In either case we make sure there is as much info as we can cram in to the episode as possible. We also talk about tournaments, specifically about the Cardinal Cup and how Jason felt his tournament went. We also lament about the issues of running tournaments and how not getting pre-books can sometimes cause issues... yeah I'm speaking from experience. We also fit in all of the S4 updates so far, including Ploughman, whom by now you all should have seen. You get Jason and my take on all the models, and we even got Dave to talk about the Blacksmiths (considering he actually knows something about how to play them).

The Highs and lows of farming We have a slightly longer episode for you today. We talk about their British Championship experiences, how we did in their games and what we have learnt. We also look at the news that came out of the key note speech, our take on the Cooks Guild, and then we review the latest Navigator Model - the captain Windfinder. There is also a sneaky look at the Resin used on the Mortician's guild, with Matt breaking down what he thinks of the models
A Touch of Calculus Jason and I give some hot takes on the latest Faithful model to be revealed, Vet Calculus. I explain what I think about the models place in the Alchemist guild, and why I think Midas has a new friend. We also review the previous revealed models from the Faithful box, our thoughts on the Blacksmith guild lore, as well as preparation for the British Championships.. well those of us currently going anyway Also stick around for the tournament announcements Indeed there shall be some tournaments! Oh and a world of awful microphone use.. you've been warned
Jason and Matthew talk about Vengeance. We review Jason's games at the tournament and how he became the best farmer in the north. We also look at the complete lack of news and spoilers that were given up at the key note, the upcoming Season 4 playtest event, and the Falconers. And no, I can't count! Stupid episode numbers
The Rookie - Play Testers

The Rookie - Play Testers

We (yes there is more than one of us) get a chance to talk about the Playtest event now most of the NDA has falled. We even manage to convince Jaime Perkins to join us for this little conversation too Ok, so I did mess up some of the recording, but hey its not all bad. I'm joined by a new co-host, Jason. No I've not stolen Mr Mountain since Andrew is doing lots of Godtear stuff, I have convince Jason Fox to come and join me in making The Rookie episodes. Still me doing the technical work though.. which as you will be able to tell might not be the best idea in the world! Oh and new music and the like. I'm trying to be more professional!
The Grange is King! In this episode I review the recent Errata, and the changes as perceived by a Farmers player. This, totally unbias opinion, reflects my personal take on the changes for my team and how I think it will affect how I play. There is utterly no salt whatsoever. I also look at some of the things I have been doing in the last few weeks, most of which I can't actually tell you anything about. Oh and I also bring up the idea of new player traps, things which new players might get fixated on and can stop them enjoying the game or moving up to the next level. In this episode I look at Momentum, and how hording momentum can be one of the first traps that new players might come across. I try and work out how to best learn when to spend momentum, and how to treat it like a resource rather than race for having the most all the time Intro music is Gamesmaster S1 Exit music - Dr.Viossy playing Ludwig van Beethoven's Sonata in C#m n° 14 "Moonlight" - 3rd movement. Arranged for electric guitars. Metal version of course! \m/

In this episode I talk about some of the "just happening" stuff that is going on for Guild Ball In other words I completely fail to do any guild ball learning and instead wax lyrical about my feelings on the Indigogo campaigns, ratcatchers, game plan decks and God Tear. I might even fit in something about a play test event and why I won't be ever talking about it again. I feel suitably unburdened of guilt about any of this Apologies for the sound issues on this episode. Apparently my backup motherboard has a somewhat worse for wares sound card

So long 2017 In this episode I endeavour to wrap up the final morsels of information that have leaked out of Steamforged Games since SteamCon US, and do a pretty naff job of it. Its not like you are coming to this podcast for decent information right? Oh I also try out a new section in which I have a couple of games with a slightly maligned model and then express my own opinions on them. This week it is Ploughman, who frankly I wish I liked more, but sadly he just doesn't quite do enough for me. Those paying slightly more attention will realise this means I also plan on buying more Guild Ball teams... its a sad and shocking development Oh and news on potential BGG tournaments... watch (?) this space.
