Recording artist Brynn Elliott joins me on an all new episode of "Worth Knowing" to talk about about how she went from writing papers to writing (and singing) songs. Her new album, Time of our Lives is out September 7th and she explains the meaning behind her first single, "Might Not Like Me," and how she is the first person in her family to go to college (and she just graduated from Harvard!) She also sings a little a capella. On a brand new episode of “Worth Knowing with Micah Jesse” we sit down with Brittany Hennessy, author of “Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media” (available July 31st everywhere). In 2007, after graduating from Rutgers University with a degree in journalism, Brittany created ChiChi212.com, which was nominated by Paper Magazine for “Best Nightlife Blog,” and she became an influencer for Bacardi, Popchips, Svedka, and the Gap. When she was flown to Germany as the North American ambassador for Nivea just to hang out with Rihanna on a cruise ship and tweet about it, she knew it was time to make the switch from journalism to social media. Eventually, she became an expert in influencer marketing, and is now sharing her insights with aspiring influencers so they may find their passion and monetize it. Today, Brittany Hennessy is the first-ever Director of Influencer Talent at Hearst Digital Media, casts celebrities and influencers for Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, Esquire, and other titlesop fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands. Believe it or not, she once paid a celebrity dog over $30,000 for a campaign! A dog. Just sit on that for a second. If you are an influencer/content creator, would like to become an influencer (which she highly recommends), or just want to know more about the world of social media in which we are living -- this episode is a must listen! On this episode, Brittany breaks down what it takes to become and maintain working as an influencer/content creator, what brands are looking for, how to set yourself apart from the competition, and much more. Amazing Kreskin, the world’s greatest mentalist, joins me this week on Worth Knowing, recording from his guest house in New Jersey. Though Kreskin makes "predictions", he does not claim to have paranormal or clairvoyant powers, and does not like to be considered a "psychic". He was inspired to become a mentalist by Lee Falk's famous comic strip Mandrake the Magician. To be honest: I was a ball of emotions before meeting him. I was equal parts excited and nervous. The 83-year-old legend opened up to me about his gift and when he first remembers recognizing it, the difference between magicians and psychics -- and mentalism, where the “amazing” name came from, his wild predictions (including Donald Trump’s presidency) and much more… “Fascinating” is the best word I could use to describe this episode. Today on "Worth Knowing" I’m joined by model, actress, fashion designer, restaurant owner, and social media influencer, Olivia Culpo. On this episode, Olivia talks about getting her career jump started after winning pageants from Miss Rhode Island to Miss Universe and how that led to acting roles, designing fashion, and becoming a mega social media influencer. She also talks about her upcoming role on E!'s Model Squad, also starring Shanina Shaik, Devon Windsor, Ashley Moore, Nadine Leopold, Caroline Lowe, Daniela Braga, and Ping Hue. “The business of high fashion is competitive and cutthroat, but it provides unparalleled opportunities that so many dream of,” Amy Introcaso-Davis, Executive Vice President, Development & Production, E!, said in a statement. “With the network deeply rooted in both fashion and pop culture, ‘Model Squad’ is tailor-made for our viewers as this series brings exclusive access inside this unique celebrity lifestyle while also showing how these fierce women empower each other in such a high-pressure industry.” Her current and upcoming acting roles include "I Feel Pretty" starring Amy Schumer and "Reprisal" starring Bruce Willis. So, it's safe to say, we'll be seeing much more of Olivia on the silver screen. . I sat down with Olivia in a cozy private room on the rooftop of the Nomad Hotel in NYC, to record today’s episode. She was getting ready to host a press + influencer dinner for TIMEX's new Spring collection of watches. ----- Follow Olivia online: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/oliviaculpo/?hl=en www.OliviaCulpo.com Marled X Olivia Culpo on REVOLVE: http://www.revolve.com/marled-x-olivia-culpo/br/8071a5/ Follow Micah Jesse online: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/micahjesse/?hl=en www.MicahJesse.com
In honor of 4/20 (otherwise known as National Marijuana Day) I am joined by Mikey Steinmetz, CEO of Flow Kana, to learn more about the current state of the marijuana industry in 2018. ABOUT MICHAEL STEINMETZ Michael Steinmetz is CEO and co-founder of Flow Kana, California’s largest distributor of beyond organic, sun grown cannabis from small craft farmers in Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity Counties. Steinmetz is leading Flow Kana to transform cannabis into the world’s first fully sustainable and equitable agricultural product, and advancing an entire ecosystem from seed-to-sale that is rooted in transparency, integrity, and shared-equity. Steinmetz combines business strategy and community outreach skills that leverage his diverse background and experiences. Prior to founding and leading Flow Kana, Steinmetz built and sold a Venezuelan national brand management company Distribuidora DanMic that manufactured and distributed category-leading food products. He previously served as an investment banking analyst at Merrill Lynch and data analyst at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Steinmetz is originally from Caracas, Venezuela, and pursued a double major in Mechanical Engineering and Economics with a minor in Business at Carnegie Mellon University. ABOUT FLOW KANA Flow Kana is a pioneer in the cannabis industry, creating the first sustainable, sungrown cannabis brand that embraces California values and the small independent farm ecosystem. Flow Kana partners with and gives scale to craft farmers, who focus on beyond organic farming practices. As one of the largest cannabis companies in California, Flow Kana offers a range of distribution and white label services to a variety of licensed cannabis companies who share the company’s values to provide consumers with clean, compliant and sustainable products through delivery to licensed retail operators throughout California. ABOUT THE FLOW CANNABIS INSTITUTE Once occupied by a historic family winery, Flow Kana's 80-acre property in the heart of Mendocino County has been reborn as Northern California's premier processing center, as well as the world's first cannabis education and wellness campus. Today the Flow Cannabis Institute provides a centralized location for independent cannabis farmers to dry, cure, trim, process, test, grade, package, manufacture, store and distribute their crop cost effectively, and at massive scale. Flow Kana's long-term vision is to develop the site as a cannabis retreat, education, and resource center, where other states, nations, industries, and businesses can learn and collaborate on how to create an agricultural model centered around the small farmer and sustainable farming practices that can be replicated around the world. Famed photographer Tyler Shields joins me for episode six of "Worth Knowing," to talk about his art of provocative photography, screenwriting, directing and of course, I had to ask about the Kathy Griffin photo, of her holding a faux bloody Donald Trump head, that rocked the entertainment world and had news crews, police and even the FBI on Tyler's front lawn for weeks. We recorded at Tyler's home in Studio City, Los Angeles. It's a lengthy episode, but worth a listen for anyone interested in the art world, photography, current state and future of social media, working with influencers, screenwriting, directing, film making and more... Tyler Shields is certainly well-known, but he is more importantly, worth knowing. Take a listen and you will understand why :) www.instagram.com/thetylershields www.tylershields.com
Drew Elliott joins me for episode five of “Worth Knowing." We recorded in his New York City office at PAPER Magazine, where he serves as Co-Owner and Chief Creative Officer. Katherine Schwarzenegger joins me for episode four of “Worth Knowing” to talk about everything from her “most normal childhood ever,” the different challenges she experienced writing each of her three novels + working on several more, and wanting to focus more on television in 2018. Of course, we also get a little insight into the “wild” life she shares with her parents, actor and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and broadcast journalist and Today Show special correspondent, Maria Shriver, and her three siblings. It’s clear she’s one very proud daughter and sister. Katherine is forging her own path, as a lifestyle blogger, author and animal and women’s rights activist. The audio on this episode got a little messed up due to some technical issues during recording. I tried to fix it, but no luck! :( Please forgive me... There’s much more to dance champion Valentin Chmerkovskiy than people know, and he wants everyone to know his story in his first book, “I'll Never Change My Name: An Immigrant's American Dream from Ukraine to the USA to Dancing with the Stars”. The book details his family’s immigration from Ukraine to the United States and the courageous and inspiring road it took to get to Dancing With The Stars. He tells me it’s a memoir, but it’s funny, not “serious.” In this episode, I sit down with “Val” to talk about everything from podcasting (he tells me he has his own space in his house) to Gary Vaynerchuk (@garyvee) to fatherhood and what he wants his legacy to be. This episode is an absolute *must listen* if you’ve ever wanted to know more about Val, who is certainly well-known but, more importantly, worth knowing.
