Raymond provides an overview of the assessment for research methods for third year students in social care. The assessment is focused on providing a well structured research proposal. As always any questions generated by this podcast should go to your tutor.

The employer is important, if not essential, to the supported employment process and these podcasts give you a look at the best way to cultivate and maintain relationships with employers from small employers to multinationals. The second of 2 podcasts looks deeper into the relationship the agency builds with potential employers. The meetings are very important in setting the tone and starting off with a clear mission for all. Getting this part of the process correct is essential. In July, the OTC interviewed Marian Hennessey- Roache, an Ability@work Co-Ordinator with Cope Services in Cork. The podcasts focusses on how a service should engage with an employer when trying to support an individual to access work. Claire Hopkins, the programme director for short courses within the OTC including the popular Certificate in Supported employment, interviewed Marian focussing on her vast experience engaging with and meeting employers.

Raymond looks at how you can approach the seen question for the QR examination. The question is testing your understanding of quality in human services and your ability to provide the content of a professional report. (Note the pass standard in part b is 3 action plans).

The OTC podcasts team produce their first management podcast. This podcast is a support for the online unit on Strategic Management from the BA module Leading within a Learning Organisation. Brendan and Raymond look at strategic management within human services looking at frequently asked questions and the key processes that lead to successful strategising.

Niav and Raymond discuss the topic of using person-first language. The podcast is aimed at all students within the OTC but contains some discussion points for all. Areas include what is person-first language, how do you ensure you are using it correctly, and why it is important for social care workers to use it. Empowerment starts with the words.
