Description

Stephen Fry's 7 Deady Sins - I will take each one of the Seven Sins in turn, lay them out on the surgical table and poke, prod, pry and provoke in an attempt to try to anatomise and understand them; I hope and believe it will be, if nothing else, delicious fun and something of a change from the usual run of podcastery.

Although both Croatian and Serbian claim Nikola Tesla, he was not Serbian born. His birthplace is Smiljan, a village in the mountainous region of Croatia.

I heard "Theory Of Mind" and was waiting for the mention of Autism. Luckily, it was only hinted at with the mention of neurotypicality but I still hope that, one day, word will reach everyone - Baron Cohen's hypothesis that Theory Of Mind is absent in autistic people has been disproven. Theory Of Mind or lack thereof is not a feature of autism. We don't inherently lack empathy either. Some of us do struggle with processing multiple inputs and can miss visual feedback while we're listening and so non-verbal hints can be missed. Some of us also struggle with mixed messages and shifting social rules and are then seen as rude or uncaring when we actually just don't have the whole picture (especially where people are hiding obvious signs of their feelings in their speech but hinting at them with strange body moments). It's not a failure to understand another person's perspective or not to even be aware that they may have a different internal experience from us. It's more about overwhelm of

The older I get the more I understand an unkind criticism of Fry I once heard. This superficial 'a plague on both your houses' engages nothing, hits nothing. No better than gossip and rumour... you must name the beast before you seek to slay it.
