Description

If Kirby swallowed a boss from Metal Gear Solid, what absolutely bonkers power would he obtain? Which of the X-Men would be the biggest bummer of a roommate? Is King Bob-Omb’s rule officially recognized by the Mushroom Kingdom or is Bob-Omb Battlefield a sovereign nation? Debate This! asks the kind of bold and heroic questions about your favorite video games and comics that no other podcast would dare ask. Although, it’s probably because other people have better things to do than argue which color of Yoshi is the best color of Yoshi.

In this show, no one is right, but someone is definitely wrong.

"Boogity, boogity, boogity, let's go racin'!" - Phil Keoghan probably. The reality TV division of DT!HQ has tasked us with another reboot of a popular competition show. This time, we've set our sights on one of the big CBS shows. After two decades of watching midwesterners destroy manual vehicles abroad, audiences are ready for something new. That's why today we're deciding which video game world should be the setting for the next season of The Amazing Race! Andrew is doing a Donkey Kong thing. Kyle is doing a Pokémon thing. Todd is doing a mispronunciation thing. The fallen leaves tell a story. The great Elden Ring was released. Now, two years later, the long-awaited DLC is nowhere to be found. Soon, FromSoftware's fanbase, demigods all, executed challenge run after challenge run. A naked man with a pot on his head was the first to perish. Arise now, ye Tarnished. Ye dead, who might yet go on to actually complete this 120+ game. The call of long-lost grace and a really, really good open world Action RPG calls us all. This month, we're entering the Lands Between and talking all about 2022's Elden Ring! Join us on this fantastical journey, courtesy of #buttthwompnation member @mgrum54! The month of May is synonymous with flowers and sunny weather. Birds are chirping, buds are blooming and farming sim fans are hunting for this year's way to enjoy the outdoors without leaving the indoors. Now we're not talking about just farming sims, we're setting our sights on the whole "cozy game" genre. The execs have asked us to head to the field of video games and harvest some new cozy games. Today we're tackling the questions, "What not cozy game should be remade but cozy?" Kyle's pitch is about as radical as a cozy game can be. Andrew's pitch is about as pun-filled as a cozy game can be. Matt's answer is pretty much just Five Nights at Freddy's. Profits are down! Why are profits down? Who knows, but they're down everywhere! Profits are so down that Big Capitalism has come running to us here at DT!HQ to get profits back up! How are we going to get profits back up? With card battlers of course! Todd gives the people what they want and completes a beloved trilogy. Matt is making the sickest, raddest card battler you've ever seen. If you understand Andrew's answer, hey, this episode is for you. And last but not least, because only Kyle understands card games, we invited our buddy Greg Schulz to keep us on track. On the day of our non-denominational Lord, April 7th, 2024, 4 nerds were given a platform for a second time. A platform, not just on the internet, but in a real life place in front of real life people at the Midwestern Gaming Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Those 4 nerds dared to ask a dangerous question, "What sport should be added to Wii Sports?" This raucous debate will really have you questioning if you know what a sport is. Andrew is pushing for esports in video games. Kyle is defending an American pastime. Todd is combining two things you didn't know could be combined. Today's FLAVOR TEXT isn't about that shared misery, but instead is about its source material. Join us as we dive into 80 years of lanterning. Hoo boy those new X-Men ['97] sure are competent superheroes and also universally sexy. Pretty much the opposite of that are the 3 of us dweebs standing in the shadows who all somehow also made the cut and got accepted into Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters despite having superpowers or eshewing raw bisexual energy. Matt shows his super-expertise with common household appliances, Andrew illustrates his super-ability to read a room, and Todd slip-slides around via his super-undiagnosed hyperhidrosis. It's Christmas of 1996 and you've just unwrapped the hottest new home gaming console, the Nintendo 64. You're about to be immersed into a game more realistic than your brain can even fathom. Except it's not 1996, it's 2024 and games look more like real life than real life does. Wouldn't it be a wild thought experiment to adapt a game made in 2024 to 1996's N64? Wouldn't it? Fair warning, if you've played a particular game series, Andrew is going to make you furious. Kyle is here to make one 25th of a game. Todd is going to talk a lot about horses. Does it smell like Teen Spirit in here or is that just me? While we're not talking about Nirvana today, we are talking about one of the other biggest figures of the 90s, Power Rangers. It's hard to believe it's been 30 years since we were first introduced to the color-coded teenagers with attitude. Now with 30 seasons and 4 feature length films under their belt, we're going to look under the spandex as to how exactly Haim Saban propped up this franchise for three decades. Not only does this podcast include 30 years of Power Rangers history, it also includes a bonus 15 years of Japanese Entertainment history! How much do you know about the phrase "public domain?" Follow up question, how much do you want to know about the phrase "public domain?" Today we're doing something just plain silly. Today we're making Sonic the Hedgehog games out of public domain novels. Believe it or not, they've already made two of them. Todd's idea led to a lot less puns than it could have. Kyle's idea revolves around everyone's favorite public domain detective. Matt's idea has a villain that really pushes the limits of stupidity. Did you know there's only one official Marvel Cinematic Universe slated for a 2024 release? That number jumps to three if you include the Sony Venom-Verse movies, but the once mighty MCU is down to a single cinematic release this year. Whether you've kept up with Phases 4 and 5 or not, you're probably aware that Marvel Studios seems to lack direction. Somewhere between a glut of Disney+ content and the conviction of their planned franchise villain, Kevin Feige et al. seem to have lost their way. That's why the Marvel Team has turned to us here at DT!HQ to help determine: What should be the new direction for the MCU? Todd is going to tell you about the Dark Avengers and you're going to like it. Ten years ago, purveyor of the human condition and scion of the future Mike Judge created another hit series as a follow up to the likes of Office Space, Idiocracy, and King of the Hill. This series would go on to shine a now-familiar light on the silliness and cartoonishly villainous behavior of the wacky tech moguls of the San Francisco Bay Area. Silicon Valley made careers out of Kumail Nanjiani, Thomas Middleditch, and Jimmy O. Yang, and helped put T.J. Miller's career in the grave.
