The purpose of a CV is to get an interview. It's not your autobiography. But which type do you use and how do you manage your age and qualifications if you are overqualified for a role? When you're applying for jobs it's vital you know about the four different types of CV/resumes and how to use them most effectively to get to an interview. Matt Warzel, MJW Careers, explains in detail what to look for and how to respond.
In your 50s?  Working for a corporate? Your career is probably toast. In the best of times your career is almost certainly not as safe as you think it let alone now. So what should you be thinking about and what could you be doing to prevent yourself getting burnt?
There is age discrimination in the work place. Older woman face additional obstacles and sometimes have to make difficult choices. There are complex reasons why women face challenges when re-entering employment and the challenges are international. In conversation with Professor Sarah Vickerstaff.

Many, it seems if you are a long service military veteran entering civilian employment for the first time after joining up. Professor Matt Flynn outlines the challenges faced by military veterans.
Recruitment agencies are in the business of finding people for jobs not jobs for people. But they are an important channel for finding new employment. As an older worker you may not have used one before. Ben Pearson, Beyond Recruitment in New Zealand, talks about the most effective way to engage with them and prospective employers.
In your 50s you could be looking at potentially 15/20 years of work ahead of you. Maybe you’re wanting something else to do - in another sector, take a step back or volunteer. The transition can seem daunting.  Looking for meaning/purpose can make you feel Restless. In conversation with Stuart Lewis, founder and CEO of Restless UK.
Transition. One word. Many meanings. We'll all face the time when our career draws to an end and we consider what we do next. We may have a further 20 to 30 years ahead of us.  So what might we do? In conversation with Larry Steward, life transition coach.
Your role has been made redundant. You've been laid off. What do you do now? It's a maze.Do you want full time employment, is self employment an option, what about retiring, is a portfolio career even a thing? What do you want, do you really, really want? In conversation with Steve Preston.
In his late 60's Paul Tasner started his own company (Pulpworks Inc) but discovered he lacked one key skill that an entrepreneur must have to succeed.  Find out what that skill was and how he obtained it - and what else he learnt on the way.
Been made redundant from your role, let go or some other euphemism to describe losing your job? Don't get stuck in bitterness or resentment  The way you’ll feel following a redundancy can affect your moods for a long time. Even if you saw redundancy coming it still comes as a shock. Emotions you’ll experience have been likened to a bereavement. In conversation with Paula Gardner.
If A>50 then E=0. In other words if you are 50+ your experience likely equals zero interest to employers. What can you do? Continue applying for jobs & face regular rejection as you come up against ageism?   Start a business?   Or is there a third road? What can you do?
How can organisations be encouraged to use the  benefits of older workers? What do they need to change? Whose responsibility is it to encourage businesses?  Which businesses are harnessing the power of intergenerational teams already?
Tell me about a time when you used your attention to detail to uncover an error. Describe a time when you were required to communicate a difficult or unpleasant idea to your boss. Describe a time when you have had to use your conflict resolution skills in the workplace. These are typical of questions asked in a behavioural or competency based interview. In this podcast Leah Lambart, expert Career & Interview Coach from Melbourne gives advice on how to prepare for them, use the STAR technique to answer and outlines common mistakes candidates make - and how to avoid them.

You’re 50+, you’re unemployed, you can’t get a job and you’ve come to the realisation that you may no longer be employable in mainstream work. What do you do? You could sit back and wait for the 'perfect time' to make your move. Hint - there is no ‘perfect’ time. Katherine Brown, in the 50fiftyproject, set out to talk to 50 older entrepreneurs, learn what makes them successful, what motivates them and why they took the decisions they did.
