Hit & Run

2022-08-0827:00

Scam's last rent check ever has been paid. Celebrate life. The bhoys got shocked that Amy DeGise still hasn't resigned after doing a hit and run. That's Jersey City for you. And then they have to discuss the Mass State Auditor race where everyone's promising accountability but the powers never allow for it and one candidate's coziness with the establishment but the Progressive Left tells us to look away, Like wut?
It happened. The bhoys have become suburbanites. Babbu's lived it, Scam's a kid in a candy store across state borders having a ball. #Glamwell The MBTA burns, the rents keep getting higher, home ownership is simply inaccessible, and that big purple wave of politics became status quo. They reflect on this pod project and where it will go since cities are going down the tubes due to a lack of accountability from those big Twitter fingers and electeds alike. Girl, dog, house, job still, Tottenham transfer window. In that order.

WNSM moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss 100 episodes at least. David Goodwin opens the "season" with a reflection of our cities and what's changed for the better and hopefully not the worst. Whether it's NJ political redistricting to the failed #NightmareonBlueHillAve "town hall" in Roxbury, there's a few positives we can take away from our urban cores when it comes to transit, housing, and everything in between. He's also writing another book on HP Lovecraft & his time in New York City. David explains why our historical figures & their records deserve scrutiny no matter the the era. New year, new election season, new milk. The bhoys discuss life during the holidays that seemed to be more about testing for COVID than presents, the new election cycles in respective attics/basements of Massachusetts & New Jersey, why a new City Council doesn't mean much until budget season, and more. Hobbies, hold on to them if you got them.
Is Charlie Baker running and what does a "Baker Republican" do if he doesn't? Maureen McInerney, one of Scam's besties, got the slot to hash out the deeper parts of being a Republican in not one but three states as a woman trying to "diversify" it, Charlie Baker being Charlie Baker, and why Geoff Diehl should be taken kind of seriously this time in a very non-weird MAGA way. We can't always agree on everything but one thing's for sure, both parties are deeply in trouble. Follow Maureen https://twitter.com/mcinerney_mg

Who else would get the slot after election day? Of course it's Uncle Jim. First the bhoys catch up after a long hiatus. Babbu's still playing dad, Scam's soft launched the partner. Then the good stuff when Jim helps the bhoys run down why Michelle Wu winning is so good and cool for transit, the differences of opinion on who is best for First Suffolk & Middlesex, State Auditor, and finding common ground on a gubernatorial candidate for 2022 with a bold prediction. And of course why Jim is an aged Stanley Tucci. Jim's the best. The bhoys love him.
Scam's neighborhood is changing before his eyes. The luxury building towering over the bike lane and the park. The bus lane that looks exactly like the MBTA 1 bus between Sullivan Square and Davis. The same stories told city to city, town to town. So Scam said why not have Will Mbah (Chelsea [Football Team], yuck) come on and talk about why he's running for mayor of Somerville, his Chelsea fandom, the housing crisis that's happening on our respective streets, and why policing should look different and Somerville's a perfect place to start. Will's impressed with Scam's eating and drinking hangouts. Scam and Babbu are impressed with his laugh and joy. A match made for Broadway. Don't forget to vote Tues 11/2. Follow Will https://twitter.com/MbahCouncilor Volunteer/Donate/Tweet Hard For The Guy https://www.willmbah.com/wills-story
Two polls have come out trying to size up the mayoral, at-large, and ballot questions. Two debates don't seem to shift much either. And They all seem to say the same thing: one candidate is running away with it. Rich Parr (West Ham United) of MassInc Polling Group got the slot to parse the details in the crosstabs and toplines in their & Suffolk U's polls about how Michelle Wu is doing this, why the At-Large City Council race for 4th place will come down to the wire, and Boston ready to elect a school committee for once. The numbers are real and we still have to vote, but the only poll isn't election day. Babbu still likes to keep an eye on big city politics no matter how much the suburbs, the third co-host, or the Bluetick Coonhound keep him busy. So he checked in on his friend James Solomon of Ward E in Jersey City (7:10) to compare the past four years to now, why this campaign is way hotter than his first go around, and his race being a microcosm of what's happening in the city as a whole as a councilperson, a dad, and a husband. Be sure to follow, volunteer, donate, etc. www.solomonforjc.com Follow James! https://twitter.com/SolomonforJC Song: https://open.spotify.com/track/7zgZEof1vqsg2NkEWA20lc?si=8056e02cfa0140a7
All three black candidates lost and the takes from everyone were endless. I guess some must continue that. Alejandra & Malikai, co-hosts of Insert Name Here, took the slot while Babbu keeps grinding in real life as a good dad. All three of us are younger people of color (under 40) who have a different perspective of being a voter, identity politics, the monolithic vote that can range from God fearing/going and cop loving to breaking the entire system down brick by brick, and why we love Michelle Wu. It's beyond Ricardo Arroyo, Tito Jackson, Wakanda II, the academics, and the professional activists. Coalitions matter, all folk actually are folk. Scam wanted to hear more about the South Shore and Cape Cod. So he asked Adam Bass of The Cod Cabin to come on and teach him a thing or two. The hijinks of last year's #MA04 primary and what Auchincloss has become, Jesse Brown ruining his one shot at credibility in #MA09, and the state of local news in the eyes of an up and coming journalist. A charming lad that will be reporting the big stories in no time. With no opinion of who is running. This time last year everyone was ablaze over what your cities, towns, and Commonwealths will cook up for budgets. It's another year and everyone pretty much kept doing the same thing behind the closed curtains & doors of our city hall and state legislatures. Crumbs, no real shazam. Status quo. And Massachusetts and New Jersey have become one in the same when it comes to three people making the decision. All the same color and only one woman to boot. So Brandon McKoy of New Jersey Policy Perspective came on to hash out the details from where we were to now, avoiding the personal to the policy in how we make decisions, and facing the reality that his job is easier with a president like Biden. Both states are complicated. But the bhoys know enough's enough. And we'll keep taking it I guess. Follow Brandon https://twitter.com/Brandon_McKoy New Jersey Policy Perspective https://www.njpp.org
Scam reached out to Tami Gouveia (8;50) weeks ago to come on and talk about life at the State House when she wasn't running for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. Well now she is so the bois have to discuss that too. Still representing the 14th Middlesex, she talks about why she's running for the second place job, how she can make it more meaningful, & why her personal story as a single mom (through two economic crises) drives the beliefs she carries with support of her own district. Unsure how Scam's mom feels about her not going to Sullivan Farms for delicious ice cream but here we are. The MassDems field isn't set but there's only one candidate who can speak to both ends of the state. And no, it's not Scam. Ben Downing got the slot to hash out why he's running for Governor, the geographical inequities of the Commonwealth, how he'll have to earn every vote no matter who runs, and being an Evertonian in a Liverpool saturated world. It is a big Commonwealth. It deserves more than inside I-95. Follow Ben! Donate! Get to know! https://twitter.com/BenDowningMA https://benformass.com/

We were supposed to record this on Earth Day but stuff happens. The Weymouth gas compressor station was a hot issue two years back. Surprisingly, it still is because of all the back and forth between Enbridge and the neighborhoods this thing can ruin. So Andrea Honore got the slot again to update us on: - Why it's still dangerous (since it's had multiple shut downs since going operational) - Why it's still a political issue for Charlie Baker and anyone wanting the corner office - Why Senator Patrick O'Connor (a REPUBLICAN)has been the best ally on this climate issue - And how she manages the relationships between having folks in both parties. Wonky, climate ready, and good lo-fi tunes. That should do it.
Scam's from Western MA and compounded in a gaming attic in Eastern MA. He has to visit family across the state time to time. How many times can he before he asks what Central Massachusetts is all about? So the bhoys asked Lance Harris (@CMassPolitics) to talk about the political nature of the region, the idea of "progressive" around there and how they do it, WOOSOX, & the frustrations MassDems and Charlie Baker causes all of them. A fellow Tottenham fan, better than Ed Lyons on the thoughts, and always a good laugh or two. Liverpool stinks. Follow Lance: https://twitter.com/CMassPolitics
Some say first time's an accident, second time's a habit. David Halbert's running again for Boston City Council @ Large so another episode pouring milk; this time going beyond the wonk. He's raising two kids as a BPS parent, green schools, a clever philosophy about why policing in Boston fails starting at the academy, and entertained who he would be in The Wire. It's David time. Second time's the charm. You know David but here's the links: https://david4boston.com/ Stay up to date with David https://twitter.com/votehalbert
It was 4/20 and Scam needed a co-host. Anthony Collins said yes. He's uninspired by the mayoral candidates, Scam is walking a plank by supporting Michelle most likely. The only way to calm down is to burn down so that's what they did grinding out the details about the money, whether Kim is "doing, not acting", and that dark horse that is Annissa Essiabi-George, Mayor No. God help us all. Follow Anthony: https://twitter.com/antamcollins Here's the mapz https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1zQmaFeWwHpsq1UOMVjbvULF2nauMOSJe&ll=42.295734247925296%2C-71.1383986040435&z=13 Here's Calla Walsh's Greater Boston spreadsheetz: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17sgXGSZ52tYpXZLODfW4jr8lBl1PK0d74kLqb8vNboQ/edit?usp=sharing
There is this habit with #bospoli podcasts (on Fridays) where they ask candidates hypotheticals about what will happen, how will they vote, and what you will do explicitly for the hosts. Quid pro quos as they enable a moderate level of municipal leadership. We have to get beyond the "You owe me's" and get to actually know these candidates because a policy is only as good as the conviction to see it through. So Joel Richards got the slot. A teacher at the Blackstone, a father of two, and a candidate for District 4 as Andrea Campbell runs for mayor. Scam got to hear his personal stories of being in the district, the need to run, if Jesus was a socialist, our public schools and to policing in America. A very chill guy and a great convo on what makes Joel tick. Scam loved him so you should to. Jim Aloisi gets an annual slot. It's time again. We all have to return to work. But what does that look like? And how will we get there? Jim can't walk right now so he came up with the idea of "subsidy equity." See if that catches on. MBTA's reliance on fares, decarbonization, and a quick review of the mayoral state of play. Three dudes going off about the never ending austerity and McKinsey determining it. You know Jim. Follow him anyway I guess. https://twitter.com/JimAloisi
