In the third episode of The Outdoor Athlete Podcast, we speak with Dr Gareth Jones, course director for the MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine at Leeds Beckett University and one of the leaders in climbing injury research. In this Podcast, we discuss some common patterns of injury, how these are changing with the sport and the possible pitfalls of some of the existing climbing research. We get some advice on the intricacies of diagnosing finger injuries using ultrasound and growth plate injury in young climbers. We also talk a little bit about monitoring training load and the future of the sport. If you’re a climbing coach and want to improve some of your understanding of training load and consider how to monitor it in your athletes, or if you’re a medical professional or athlete who wants to know a bit more about diagnosing climbing injuries – have a listen. For the most recent collaborative paper from Gareth and the Team at Leeds Beckett University, have a look here: https://bit.ly/2UXqQKP  Or to find Gareth on Researchgate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Gareth_Jones14
