The Boston Marathon is back in person after a virtual race last year. There may not be as many runners along the 26.2 mile course, but the spirit, enthusiasm, and passion are just as strong as ever. Shayna Seymour shares the stories of people putting miles on their bodies to raise money for local causes. Sept. 11, 2021, marks the 20th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. A day that not only changed the trajectory for our country but a day that left permanent scars on the people and loved ones of those who were directly impacted. Anthony Everett sits down with former ABC anchor Charlie Gibson, who was one of the first journalists to report the news of the attacks 20 years ago. We then meet Lieutenant Michael Goldberg and Paramedic Robert Hopkins, two local first responders who stepped into action to assist in rescue and recovery efforts at ground zero. Alzheimer’s Disease is a relentless force, stealing patients’ dignity and emotionally exhausting their family, caregivers, and friends. How do we fight back? With a citizen army, says one doctor in the field: men and women willing to volunteer for clinical trials that expand our knowledge of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Anthony Everett takes us inside Butler Hospital, one of the top research centers in the world, to meet some members of this citizen army. For Peter Bristol, the first person to sign up for one drug trial, the mission is rooted in family history: his mother, grandmother, uncle, and brother have all succumbed to dementia and Alzheimer’s. For Dave Kalberer, it’s very personal; a genetic test revealed he carries markers for the disease. Plus, Anthony reports on a billion-dollar effort underway to find breakthrough treatments in the next decade. She was inspired by Dr. Sally Ride, the first American woman to go to space.  Coleman discusses the importance of female representation, the unifying feeling of seeing the entire Earth, and excitement of playing her flute while in space.
