In 1969, the United States of America successfully sent the first men to the moon in the Apollo 11 Spacecraft. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first people to walk on the lunar surface. A third member of the crew, Michael Collins, manned the command module in orbit around the moon while Armstrong and Aldrin completed their trip to the surface in the lunar module. While on the moon they conducted scientific experiments, planted an American Flag, and took photos and videos. They left earth in a craft that was as big as a skyscraper and returned 10 days later in just a section of it about as big as a family van. Listen along to learn more about this incredible event!
Helen Keller was left blind and deaf after a childhood illness. She was taught to communicate by her teacher, Anne Sullivan. Together, they showed the world that people with physical disabilities can accomplish great things.
