In this episode of the Ask Abbey Podcast, I'm taking a deep dive look into skincare ingredient labels to look at one specific ingredient: Fragrance. I explain what fragrance is, why it's damaging to the skin, and why it should be avoided on skincare labels. I talk through the difference between volatile oils, essential oils, and synthetic fragrance, and common ingredients to look out for that can actually cause skin irritation like: citrus oils (lime oil extract, lemon oil extract, tangerine oil extract, mandarin oil extract, grapefruit oil extract), mint oils (menthol, peppermint oil extract, spearmint oil extract), floral oils (lavender oil, rose oil), and many more! There are over 3,000 words for fragrance in cosmetics... making it extremely difficult for the general skincare consumer to understand how to find truly "fragrance free" product. In this episode of the Ask Abbey Podcast, I'm sharing the inside scoop on natural deodorant. I explain the reasons why natural deodorant is all the rage, and specifically focus on the potential negative side effects of aluminum toxicity. Then I dive into my experience in switching from aluminum-based antiperspirant to an aluminum-free deodorant. We talk all the dirty deets of the detox phase like what to expect for underarm sweating, body odor, underarm rashes, skin irritation, and of course, how long the natural deodorant detox phase really lasts. In this episode, I am continuing the dreaded "Quarantine 15" conversation by discussing the easiest way to burn extra calories throughout your day. Spolier alert... it's not what you think. For those of us working from home during this lockdown, it can be incredibly tempting to spend the majority of our day on the couch. In this episode of the Ask Abbey Podcast we are talking about the terrifying truth about UV Rays. Yep. Terrifying is the correct term. That's because many people think they are fully protecting themselves from the sun while wearing SPF in the summer, and that SPF is not necessary in the winter (especially in areas that don't get much sunlight in the winter, right?). Wrong. If you're currently on that same wavelength... you are not protecting your skin adequately from UV damage. There are actually two kinds of UV rays. UVA rays and UVB rays.
