It's February 2024, over half-way through the first quarter and I wonder: how's your strategy holding up so far? What's that you say? Once upon a time, I defined myself - anchored my identity - in my achievements, roles, titles, bank account, etc.   When I lost my high level job, my identity took a major hit. When my inward fulfillment and contentment didn't match my outward success, my identity was "I'm not doing enough / what am I doing wrong?" When your identity is anchored in anything that's subject to change, involves other people's opinions, or worldly definitions, you're always subject to sink.   The only place to be anchored is in Jesus, because only the Lord has the authority to DEFINE you!   Yet, how do you practically live out letting Him define you as a business owner? Lately, I've been hearing the high-achieving Christian women I serve (and others) talk about extreme exhaustion and the perceived need to be "constantly on" in their businesses. I believe it's a multi-layered issue that can start to be addressed by understanding how God made us to work and the value of consistency over constantly.   Let's be honest, the world is LOUD in telling us how we have to be constantly available, constantly online, constantly sharing our message. But it's really CONSISTENCY that makes all the difference!   So where in the Bible do you turn in your exhaustion for an example of consistency? Nehemiah! Nehemiah is a case study for us. He had no idea that God would redeem his consistency as cupbearer to lead the people to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem, but he knew God put a desire in his heart and positioned him in the role for some reason (there's that GPS again). Nehemiah built the King’s trust. And, by the time he asked permission to leave and rebuild the wall, the king not only allowed it, he provided materials and influenced leaders of the kingdoms en route to provide safe passage. Nehemiah was consistent in his mundane (and life-risking) daily action. He sought God's direction at every turn during the process. He was consistent as foreman of the work. The result: the wall was rebuilt in just 52 days. If there were a song for today's episode about getting lost, being found and my testimony of salvation in Jesus, it would be Amazing Grace: I once was lost, but now I'm found. Was blind but now I see. In honor of my 56th birthday today, and in gratitude for all our newer listeners, I decided it was a good time to share the transformation in my life and business thanks to Jesus that led me to this career as the Christian business coach for women. It's also the story of lessons learned, strongholds broken, and moving forward in a mission that wasn't part of my plan!   My testimony in a nutshell is ambitious woman gets lost on her way to the top, is found by Jesus, and He says, "why don't you let me drive, and you hold this map (the Bible)?" Then as I walked out my salvation (and still do), He said, "go teach my ambitious daughters what you've learned: to redefine hustle and walk out their assignment with clarity, serenity, and fulfillment."   And here we are today! Have you followed influencers in your line of business hoping to find the secret of success? I know I have, and somehow it still eludes me. Yet in my recent conversations with high-achieving sisters in Christ, I've heard them talk of exhaustion chasing the "big" things, and that led me to this conclusion: God wants us to go deep with Him, and He'll take care of the "big" according to His divine plan and timing. Because we often think we have to go for BIG things, we discount the seemingly small steps of progress, and we forget that even those steps could create a ripple effect in our businesses, in the Kingdom, when we allow the Lord to use us. But how do we do that? We have to relinquish the position of god of our own businesses, because God is God and we are not. And THAT is truly the secret of success. In today's episode, we're talking about what it means to go deep with the Lord because friends, when we go deep with Him and let him take care of the big steps in our business, we are able to walk out His divine assignment in divine alignment (listen to episode 232 for more on that!). And that means, we're able to walk with clarity and serenity and true fulfillment beyond the numbers, beyond the outward success! Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that approximately 20% of new businesses fail during the first two years of being open, 45% during the first five years, and 65% during the first 10 years. Only 25% of new businesses make it to 15 years or more. What does it take to experience longevity in business? Yes, clear mission, vision, strategy and discipline. Recently, I turned on my YouVersion Bible app reader and was listening to Psalms, and what struck me was how many times the psalmist ends one psalm in praise, and starts the next one lamenting, "Why have you not listened to me? Why have you left me?" It's kind of how often we put things at the foot of the cross, rejoicing and trusting in expectancy of how the Lord protects us, and picking it up again when He's not moving in the way and time we want. And then we lament, like the psalmist.   What encourages me - and hopefully you - is that even the saints of the Bible whined a little too. I wonder if sometimes God wanted to ask, "Do you want some cheese with that whine?" (just kidding) The question is: Can we surrender like the psalmist and return to rejoicing in every situation?   What we need is Jesus for that whine!
