This is one of those conversations that I could go on and on about. As a matter of fact Sarah told me she would come back to speak to me again and I think I am going to take her up on that. Sarah was born in a small town where the majority of people in the town were white.  A direct quote from Sarah is "the biggest problem with small towns is the minds in those towns are quite small too" Go on a journey with us as she tells us how she escaped that small town mentality and how is she sees race and diversity today. This was an interesting conversation y'all and as the conversations on critical race theory pick up momentum I want to explore more of where we think all this talk about race and telling the truth about how this country was built is going to lead us.
So yawl know we can actually be cute cute sporting sustainable fashion, right?  Earth Day is approaching and last I checked we get ONE Earth, and we have a lot of work to do to maintain the health of it.  One way of doing this is by wearing recycled clothing and recycling the things that you are no longer in need of. Shannon Crawford of https://www.instagram.com/ferventlychic  and I discuss why it is so important to be diligent about reducing, reusing and recycling. Shannon is doing the work of teaching us how over on her IG page as well as on her You Tube channel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDShCulTOgQ  Y'all aren't going to believe these looks are repurposed.  They are gonna wanna make you run to your local Goodwill!
Meet Simone, a Texas mom of two and former accounting professional turned digital creative. Her children are 9 years and 5 months apart in age. Although they share a close relationship, raising them has been very different.  Join Simone and I as she walks us through the story of dyslexia with her son and how she made sure he had the tools he needed to be successful.  There is a lesson for every mom in her story! Find Simone on  Instagram, https://www.instagram.com/simonedoeslife where she shares her  life though a hilariously unique style of storytelling complete with cooking and lots of country grammar. When she is not “doing life”, she's “doing content” at https://www.instagram.com/simonedoescontent where she share tools and strategies to help you bring your creative vision to life. Simone's goal is connect and collaborate with women in creative ways that will enrich their lives and help our communities.
Truth is even mamas who have not been diagnosed with depression have days where parenting is down right difficult. Sometimes managing our own emotions, thoughts and feelings can be enough and then add parenting to that. I don't know about you but I want to build strong healthy relationships with my children, in order to do so I need practical ways to take care of my mental health. Today, Kimberly is going to share with us how she is able to show up for herself so she can show up for her children. I learned a lot in this interview and I hope you will too!  Kimberly has written an amazing resource to help manage depression from a preventative lens. I have been on a little hiatus and this was the perfect episode to return with. Y'all know I ride hard for kids around here and with the state of the world today we have to figure out how we can correct our education system so that each group is represented equally and fairly. I am sickened by a lot of what I have seen go on in the education system for many Black and Brown children, including my own. I have been blessed to have a lot of moms in this fight for equality with me and four of them are joining me on this episode.
