"Meet a Mathematician" is a podcast Brought to you by Sense Makes Math, a YouTube channel which decrees that Math Does Not Make Sense. Sense, Makes math. Our mission is: To expose the world to the Beauty, Power, and Magic that is the sacred art of Mathematicians. On each episode of “Meet a Mathematician” we conduct interviews with undergraduates, graduate students, post doctoral fellows, professors, and self-identified math people to discuss their personal journey into the world of mathematics.

Tien Chih is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Montana State University-Billings. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Montana, Missoula in 2014 under the supervision of George McRae. Tien does research in different fields including Algebraic Combinatorics, Categorical Combinatorics, and Graph Theory. Laura Murray is a Graduate Student at the University of Notre Dame studying under the supervision of Stefan Stolz. Brandon Shapiro is a graduate student in Mathematics at Cornell University studying under the supervision of Inna Zakharevich. Brandon studies higher category theory and how they relate to topology and computer science. He is currently focused on comparing how different shape structures describe higher categories and models of univalent type theory. Jay Cummings is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Sacramento State University. He received his Ph.D. in 2016 from the University of California, San Diego under the supervision of Ron Graham. Jay’s research is in many different flavors of combinatorics: enumerative, extremal, probabilistic, spectral and algebraic. He has an Erdos Number of 2 and is the Author of “Real Analysis: a Long-Form Mathematics Textbook”. Brian Mulholland is a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame under the supervision of Brian Hall.His research is in Mathematical Physics, more specifically in the mathematics of Quantum Mechanics. Misha Gekhtman is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. He received his Ph.D. from the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences. Pedro Morales-Almazán is a Teaching Professor at the University of California Santa Cruz. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Baylor University under the supervision of Klaus Kirsten and also holds degrees in Electronics Engineering and Applied Mathematics from Universidad de San Carlos in Guatemala. His research interests lie in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, specifically in spectral zeta functions and their applications into number theory, quantum field theories, and related areas.Pedro is also active and interested in mathematics education, including: inquiry-based learning, flipped classrooms, blended learning, Math Circles, and Math Outreach in general. Alexander Diaz-Lopez is an Assistant Professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. He is the Co-Founder of both Lathisms and the DREAMS Program, the Associate Editor of Notices of the American Mathematical Society, the co-editor of the AMS PhD+Epsilon Blog, and the co-organizer of the Mid-Atlantic Algebra, Geometry, and Combinatorics workshop.Alex received his Ph.D. in 2013 from the University of Notre Dame under the supervision of Matthew Dyer. Pavel Mnev is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Mathematical Physics in 2008 from the St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Mathematical Institute at the Russian Academy of Sciences under the supervision of Acad L. D. Faddeev. Harry Moyse is a Research Fellow at Warwick University in England specializing in interdisciplinary and applied mathematics. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematical Biochemistry in 2019 under the supervision of Neil Evans.Harry’s research interests include mathematical and biochemical tools for improving transplant outcomes, machine learning applied to text datasets, and wider applications of mathematics and machine learning techniques in protein biochemistry. Julian Edward is a Professor and the Director of the Learning Assistant Program at Florida International University¬. He received his Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the supervision of Richard Melrose.  His main area of research is analysis and partial differential equations. Ramin Takloo-Bighash is a Professor and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is the organizer of the Atkin Memorial Lectures & Workshop and an editor of the Journal of the Iranian Mathematical Society. Liviu Nicolaescu is a Professor and the Director of Undergraduate Honors Mathematics at the University of Notre Dame. He is the co-organizer of the Felix Klein Seminar on Geometry and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Gokova Geometry and Topology. He is currently ranked 61st on the all-time reputation boards of Math Overflow and recieved his PH.D. from Michigan State University under the supervision of Thomas H. Parker.Liviu is a Geometer "at large" and a probabilist by accident. Dominic Culver is a J. L. Doob Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign. He recieved his Ph.D. in 2017 at the University of Notre Dame under the supervision of Mark Behrens.Dominic is a homotopy theorist with particular interests in chromatic homotopy theory and the spectrum of topological modular forms.
