Joe Shead (and yes, it’s really pronounced like “shed”) is a hard-core outdoorsman and a dedicated shed hunter. Professionally, Joe is an outdoor writer and a former managing editor of Deer & Deer Hunting magazine. Today, he freelances for many outdoor publications, writing stories about hunting, fishing and of course, shed hunting. His years of shed hunting experience inspired him to write the first full-length book about the topic. Shed Hunting: A Guide to Finding White-Tailed Deer Antlers is recognized as the ultimate guide to finding whitetail sheds. He followed up his book with two DVDs: the original Go Shed Hunting DVD and the Western Shed-Venture DVD.  Joe began shed hunting in his home state of Wisconsin for whitetail antlers, but his passion for shed hunting has led him across North America. He’s found whitetail sheds in several Midwestern states, mule deer sheds in the Rockies, elk antlers in Idaho and Saskatchewan, moose sheds in Alaska and Minnesota and even caribou sheds above the Arctic Circle in Alaska. Although he started out looking for whitetail sheds, these days, he spends much of his time looking for moose antlers in Minnesota.  More available at his website  www.goshedhunting.com
For every hunting dog, there is a great story. Over the years, our own dogs have given us so many grand tales.  When they are no longer with us it is only natural to offer a fitting memorial and final salute.  Scattering your dog's ashes across the fields you have traveled together is a fitting good-bye, but the logistics may sound a bit intimidating.  In memory of your friends of the field, Jim Donigan and Bill Kidwell decided to make this unique service available to fellow dog lovers.  Being lifelong hunters themselves, Bill and Jim have long known the pleasure of hunting behind hard-working dogs who spend endless hours and untold miles in all kinds of weather conditions making upland and waterfowl hunts memorable.http://thedepartingshot.com/

When we read the following report about Spook's legal issues we noticed there was a lot of room between the lines.  Spook was kind enough to join us and answer some questions about his bust.  This special extended edition radio show with added bonus podcast segment goes into what the newspapers and websites didn't tell you. This is all we knew before the show:Back in November 2012, Spann pled guilty to a 2007 violation of the Lacey Act, when he transported an improperly-tagged buck from Kansas to Tennessee. That buck, killed in Stafford County, carried non-typical antlers that gross-scored about 230 on the Pope & Young scoring system.Although the buck was shot during the Kansas archery deer season, with proper equipment, and where Spann had permission to hunt, the permit he used was specifically restricted to land Spann owned and/or leased for agricultural purposes. When Spann pled guilty in November 2012 to a MISDEAMEANOR Lacey Act of 1900 violation, he was ordered to pay $20,000 in fines and restitution. He was then banned from hunting anywhere in the U.S. for six months and from hunting in Kansas for an entire year. He was also ordered to forfeit the antlers of that buck, and any replicas that had been made of the rack.In 2013, Spann was found guilty of violating that probation due to video footage and Facebook photos of him serving as guide on a turkey hunt. Though Spann was not carrying a weapon and did not kill a turkey, U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. O'Hara ruled Spann to be hunting because he was carrying hunting equipment, carrying dead turkeys, dressed in camo and assisting hunters with their decoys.
