Welcome to the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs!  Unfortunately, for the Leafs it has started with a game one loss to the Bruins but it’s only the first game of a 7 game series. One game, and as usual some hockey people are already saying the series is over. For this episode we welcome back LTL Insider Mike Augello to discuss the Toronto Maple Leafs' performance in the playoffs so far, specifically in their opening game loss to the Boston Bruins. Mike brings you all his criticisms and concerns surrounding the Leafs, including those surrounding their goaltending, lack of scoring, undisciplined play, and coaching. We also touch on the importance of players stepping up in the playoffs and the need for the team to play to their strengths and stick to their roles. We wrap things up with a discussion on who should start in Game 2 and whether Willy will be back, as his absence left a big hole in the the lineup and had a huge impact on the result of game 1. Leafs Nation, while we all felt that all too familiar sinking feeling in the pit of our stomach's after game 1, we also know we have been here before and that a bounce back in game 2 can bring us a completely different set of emotions. Here's to hoping that when we chat next our Buds are back on the winning side of things. GO Leafs GO! Takeaways The Toronto Maple Leafs' loss to the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of the playoffs has raised concerns and criticisms about their performance. The Leafs' goaltending, particularly Samsonov's recent struggles, is a major concern. The team needs to improve their scoring and special teams, especially the power play and penalty kill. Undisciplined play and players trying to do too much are hindering the Leafs' performance. The coaching staff, particularly Sheldon Keefe, is also under scrutiny. Players need to step up in the playoffs and perform to their potential. The Leafs' mental preparation and ability to maintain a consistent level of play are crucial for success. The starting goaltender for Game 2 is a point of discussion, with Samsonovs performance being a determining factor. The hosts express concern about the performance of the Leafs' goaltender, Joseph Wall, and discuss the possibility of making a change in net. They highlight the importance of goaltending in boosting the team's confidence and providing a solid foundation for success. The absence of William Nylander in the lineup is seen as a significant loss, as he has been a key player in previous playoff runs. The hosts discuss the lack of depth in the Leafs' lineup, particularly on the third line, and the need for improvement in that area. They emphasize the impact of special teams, specifically the power play, and the need for Nylander's presence in that aspect of the game. The hosts speculate on potential lineup changes, including the possibility of TJ Brodie returning and the decision of who to sit in his place. They analyze the overall defensive depth of the Leafs and compare it to the Bruins' defensive lineup. The hosts share their predictions for the Stanley Cup playoffs, with one host choosing the New York Rangers and the other choosing the Dallas Stars as potential finalists. They discuss the importance of faceoffs and possession in the game and highlight the need for improvement in that area for the Leafs. The hosts provide a list of top sports bars in Toronto to watch Leafs playoff games. We're celebrating our 100th episode! Joining us to discuss the Leafs and the upcoming NHL playoffs are  journalist and author Damien Cox and former Leaf and current Pro Scout for the NHL's LA Kings, Mark Osborne. Damien Cox, a media and broadcasting veteran, shares his thoughts on Auston Matthews' historic season, the Leafs' defense, Sheldon Keefe's coaching, and the potential impact Keith Pelley may have as the new CEO of MLSE. Then, in our conversation with Mark Osborne, we chat about what its like playing with record-breaking teammates, the role of a shutdown line, the pressure of playing in Toronto, and his experience as a pro scout with the LA Kings. He shares insights from his time as a player, his perspective on the media, and the importance of the best players performing in the playoffs. We're so happy to be able to bring you the insights of these two savvy pros! With Damien Cox's extensive knowledge of the Leafs and the Canadian sports media landscape, and Mark Osborne's vast experience in hockey on and off the ice, it was truly a treat to get their perspectives on the Leafs' season and what the team may need to do to see success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The countdown is now on, and this years playoff journey will begin in earnest on April 20th. As Damien said, it will either be heartbreak or euphoria! Like all of Leafs Nation, we're hoping for a lot more of the latter this time around. Go Leafs Go! Takeaways Auston Matthews is having a historic season and is the most prolific offensive player in the history of the Leafs franchise. The Leafs' defense is a concern going into the playoffs, but the team's success will ultimately depend on their ability to score goals. There is debate about whether Sheldon Keefe is the right coach for the Leafs, but the decision ultimately lies with MLSE. The new CEO of MLSE, Keith Pelley, may have an impact on the business side of the organization, particularly in negotiations with the NHL for a new TV deal. Playing with record-breaking players is both routine and special, as it showcases the unique abilities and skills of these individuals. The role of a shutdown line in today's NHL has evolved, with teams now expecting their third line to contribute offensively as well as defensively. Playing in Toronto comes with added pressure due to the media scrutiny and the high expectations of the fan base. As a pro scout, Osborne's job involves evaluating players for trades and free agency, and his input is valued by the LA Kings' management team. Osborne appreciates the growth of women's hockey and the increased coverage of the sport in the media. Welcome to our 1st volume of LTL Quick Hits!  In this bonus episode, we discuss the upcoming NHL playoffs and who would prefer to play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round. When we last spoke with Rachel Doerrie, we asked her to weigh in on the potential matchups between the Leafs, the Boston Bruins, and the Florida Panthers. In this excerpt, Rachel explains why Boston would probably want to take on the Buds and we definitely agree! With the  Bruins historical dominance over the Leafs and the mental advantage they hold, no doubt they would be licking their chops. We also discuss the Panthers' strong offensive weapons and the goaltending factor. One thing is for sure, at some point the Leafs' playoff hopes will need to go through Boston. Beating the Bruins could be just the thing to galvanize the Leafs and relieve them of the mental burden they've been carrying. After that anything goes! Go Leafs Go! Then for the Third Period, we welcome Maple Leafs reporter David Alter to discuss the team's performance heading into the final weeks of the regular season. We also discuss players who have impressed and those who have not lived up to expectations. We wrap up our conversation with a discussion about Mitch Marner's return and the lineup decisions that need to be made heading into the Playoffs. With less than 9 games to go, the Leafs final playoff position is far from locked in. As David said, we're probably in for a crazy run, with many line up decisions still to be ironed out. Alas, as Leafs fans we're definitely used to this! It's just part of the ride! Go Leafs Go! Takeaways The NHL playoffs are approaching and the Ladies are excited to cheer on the Leafs Wayne Simmonds and James van Riemsdyk are celebrated for their milestones The signings of Simon Benoit and Bobby McMahon are praised for their reasonable cap hits and performance The game against the Oilers is discussed, with the Leafs winning 6-3 Auston Matthews' 60th goal is highlighted, making him the third player in NHL history with multiple 60-goal seasons for an original six club Players who have impressed and those who have not lived up to expectations are discussed The return of Mitch Marner and the lineup decisions that need to be made are analyzed There has been controversy surrounding Mitch Marner's responses to questions about his injury, with some fans interpreting his behavior as dismissive or joking. The hosts speculate on the reasons behind Marner's behavior, suggesting that it may be due to frustration, pressure, or personal issues. The Leafs' defense pairings have been disrupted due to injuries, and it is uncertain when players like Morgan Rielly and Joel Edmundson will return. The upcoming games against the Panthers and Lightning will likely be important in determining the Leafs' playoff positioning. The hosts express their appreciation for beat reporters like David Alter who provide firsthand insights into the team. The hosts remind listeners to support healthcare workers and first responders, and encourage them to leave ratings and reviews for the podcast. Its inevitable that when the annual St. Paddy's Day game rolls around, our thoughts drift to the history of the team we love, and this year is no exception, so we begin the show remembering Pat Burns. In this episode, the Good the Bad and the Ugly returns and we spotlight the performances of Ilya Samsonov and Pontus Holmberg, critique of Sheldon Keefe's coaching decisions, as well as express our concerns about the penalty kill. Then for the Third Period we welcome Rachel Doerrie to help us analyze the Leafs' performance at the trade deadline. We discuss various topics related to the Leafs' moves, including the impact of not having a second-round pick, the goaltending situation for the playoffs, and the evaluation of Timothy Liljegren. And she pulls no punches with respect to her thoughts on Keefe's adjustments in the wake of Mitch Marner's injury! She is a wealth of knowledge and we appreciated her expert analysis and had fun getting to know her a bit better. To wrap up we preview the upcoming games and discuss the team's playoff positioning. Lots still to iron out before the playoffs begin. Go Leafs Go! Takeaways The Toronto St. Pat's hockey team holds a special place in the hearts of Leafs fans. Reaching 200 subscribers on YouTube is a significant milestone for the show. Ilya Samsonov has been performing exceptionally well for the Leafs. Sheldon Keefe's coaching decisions have been a topic of discussion and critique. The Leafs' penalty kill needs improvement. The Leafs' performance at the trade deadline was disappointing. Not having a second-round pick may have hurt the Leafs at the trade deadline, but the value of draft picks is often overestimated by other teams. The Leafs should consider a rotation between their goaltenders in the playoffs to keep them fresh and maximize their performance. Timothy Liljegren has shown promise and should be given more opportunities to prove himself. While analytics and data analysis are important, it's also important to enjoy watching the game and not get too caught up in the numbers. The Leafs' upcoming games and playoff positioning will be crucial in determining their success in the postseason. It’s March and this is where the games start to mean a lot more and teams get their game ready for the stretch drive to the playoffs.  The Leafs are 9-1-0 in the past 10 games and you can’t get much better than that! In this episode we start the show with a run down of some recent Leafs' milestones and recognize the achievements of several players, as well as coach Sheldon Keefe with regular season win #200. The GBU is taking a break for the week and we instead move from milestones to highlights! We roll the Reel and shine the spotlight on the performance of a couple newcomers to our list in Ryan Reaves and Tyler Bertuzzi, as well as Highlight Reel regular Mitch Marner! For the Third Period, the conversation shifts to the upcoming trade deadline as we welcome our LTL Insider Mike Augello to discuss whether Treliving still has a card to play, the goaltending situation, and his opinion on John Tavares' new role and whether he expects it to stick. With the NHL Trade Deadline only a few days away, it has been eerily quiet. With so many teams still teetering on the brink, this could be a drama filled Deadline Day instead of a dud. Only time will tell. Go Leafs Go! Takeaways The Leafs have achieved several milestone records in recent games. Ryan Reeves, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Mitch Marner have been standout performers. The hosts discuss the trade deadline and potential moves for the Leafs. The goaltending situation and John Tavares' role on the team are topics of discussion. Time has flown by since our last episode and as always we have a lot to get into. The NHL standings are very tight and the Leafs right now sit 3rd in the Atlantic only three points ahead of the Lightning, but with 3 games in hand. We kick off the show with a bit of levity, sharing some fun social media posts. Then, we’re back to our regular programming, with the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, where we highlight the performances of Jake McCabe and Max Domi. We also take a look at the Leafs' struggles against bottom six teams and the inconsistent play of Pontus Holmberg, as well as express our frustration with the NHL Department of Player Safety. Next we showcase the standout performances of Ilya Samsonov, Bobby McMahon, and Auston Matthews with the LTL Highlight Reel. Then, in the Third Period, we discuss potential trade options for the Leafs leading up to the NHL trade deadline, and take a stroll down memory lane reviewing some past trade deadline deals, featuring Yannick Perreault and Owen Nolan. We wrap up with a quick look ahead at the schedule. The games are going to be coming fast and furious, and trade deadline talk will be front and centre. We’ll keep you up to date with all the news and takes leading up to the deadline and beyond! Go Leafs Go! Takeaways The Leafs' performance against bottom six teams has been a concern and has cost them important points in the standings. Jake McCabe and Max Domi have been standout players for the Leafs, with McCabe showing his toughness and leadership, and Domi ramping up his game in preparation for the playoffs. The NHL Department of Player Safety's inconsistent decisions and harsh punishments have frustrated fans and players alike. Ilya Samsonov, Bobby McMahon, and Auston Matthews have been key contributors to the Leafs' success, with Matthews putting up record-breaking numbers. The Leafs may consider making trades before the NHL trade deadline to address their needs for a right-shot defenseman and a bottom six forward. The Toronto Maple Leafs should target a defenseman, such as Alexander Carrier, from the Nashville Predators in a potential trade. Past trade deadline deals for the Leafs, such as the Yannick Perreault trade and the Owen Nolan trade, have not always worked out well. Secondary scoring is a key need for the Leafs. Fans should engage with the show and support it through ratings, reviews, and donations. In this episode, Chris and Syl celebrate winning the Bronze Award at the Sports Podcast Awards. They review the Toronto Maple Leafs' performance in the first half of the season, highlighting the resiliency of the defense and also the team's inconsistency. They also discuss the team's needs at the trade deadline, focusing on the defense and left winger positions. The hosts then recap the NHL All-Star Weekend, sharing their top 10 moments, including meeting media members, the All-Star red carpet, and the mascot showdown, Chris's favourite! Finally, in their Third Period segment, they analyze the Eastern Conference standings and discuss potential playoff matchups for the Leafs. In this episode, the hosts discuss various topics related to the Toronto Maple Leafs, including goaltending, team physicality, the upcoming schedule, the importance of winning games, and of course, the up and coming trade deadline. Takeaways The Toronto Maple Leafs' defense has shown resiliency despite injuries and inconsistent performances from some players. The team needs to improve their special teams and overall consistency to be successful in the second half of the season. At the trade deadline, the Leafs should focus on acquiring defensemen and a left winger to address their roster needs. The NHL All-Star Weekend provided memorable moments, including meeting media members, the All-Star red carpet, and the mascot showdown. The Eastern Conference standings are tight, and the Leafs need to maintain their position in the playoff race. Facing the Carolina Hurricanes in the playoffs might be a better matchup for the Leafs compared to the New York Rangers. Having goaltenders with Stanley Cup experience can be beneficial for a team in the playoffs. Team physicality and matchups play a role in determining success in games. The upcoming schedule for the Toronto Maple Leafs is busy, with games against various teams. Winning games against lower-ranked teams is crucial for maintaining a strong position in the standings. The trade deadline can lead to potential changes in team rosters. Listeners are encouraged to follow and watch the show on various platforms. This Leafs team is taking us through an emotional roller coaster and they are in a tough stretch of games right now playing 8 games in 13 nights and so far it hasn’t been great! In this episode we start the show with some Leaf Talk, and our conversation covers the team's recent struggles, concerns about coach Sheldon Keefe, and issues with specialty teams, the PK in particular. Then, for our Third Period segment, in anticipation of this week's home and home with the Winnipeg Jets, we welcome Jets Host and Producer Sara Orlesky to break it all down. She shares her impressions of what has made the Jets so successful so far this season, and why it should stick this year. As well we discuss the pseudo-rivalry between the Leafs and the Jets, the upcoming NHL All-Star Game, and her work in creating a connection between fans and the team through the documentary features she is producing. Finally, we discuss the best and worst aspects of a Winnipeg winter. Surprisingly, despite the cold temps, the good seems to outweigh the bad in this sunny city! Happy 2024 everyone!  A New Year, and for the Leafs they have started 2024 in pretty good shape, going 3 and 0 on their California road trip! Auston Matthews had a December to remember, and we’ve started the year with plenty of Nylander buzz, while also being in the midst of a full on All Star voting frenzy on X! This episode sees the return of our regular segments, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and the Ladies Talkin’ Leafs Highlight reel. We’re back on track after a Post Global Series hiccup, with mostly good news to report, but there’s still some work to be done, notably on the power play, particularly if the Leafs plan on making any inroads in the standings. We celebrate 2 debuts on the Highlight reel this episode, as a new fan favourite and emergency back stop join the ranks. Of course the top spot is once again occupied by a familiar player that is continuing to re-write the Leafs record books. Then, for the Third Period, we welcome back our Ladies Talkin’ Leafs Insider, Mike Augello. It seems all roads lead to William Nylander these days, so who better to weigh in on the merits of Nylander’s new deal than Mike! Of course, we also took this opportunity to pick his brain on a few other players, as well as his thoughts on how to make the All Star Game more meaningful for the Players. His idea most definitely will shock some! Finally, a quick reminder that there is still time to vote for our show in the Best Hockey Podcast: Ice and Field category, of the Sports Podcast Awards! Voting is open until January 28th, and we so badly want to represent you, our listeners in this category! You can find the link below in our show notes. While we’re still kinda in the dog days, we can feel excitement just around the corner! Once the All Star game is behind us, it will be all business all the time. Playing in a tight Atlantic Division, with a much more condensed schedule, will leave little room for error. In the meantime, were looking forward to celebrating and showcasing our hometown in front of Leafs Nation and NHL fans throughout the Globe! Go Leafs Go! We're baack! We are so excited to tell you about our trip to Stockholm, and what it was like being behind the scenes at the NHL Global Series! There were so many highlights, from mixing with the players and media members, witnessing touching fan interactions, and the splendour that is Stockholm. Each of us had moments we will never forget. Next, its the return of the Good the Bad and the Ugly, and we pick up where we left off, giving kudos to Morgan Rielly and finally give Tyler Bertuzzi his due, as well as point some criticism coach Sheldon Keefe's way, and discuss our frustration with all the too many men on the ice penalties. Then, with the delicious staple Swedish Meatball as our inspiration, we created a fun segment called 'Maple Leaf Meatballs' where we match different meatball flavours with Maple Leafs players! Check it out to see if you agree with our picks! We conclude this episode with a fascinating interview with Travis Howe and Laith Murad of NHL Breakaway on the future of sports collectibles, and wrap things up with a preview of upcoming games. The Leafs definitely have some tough match ups ahead, including a measuring stick match up vs the Rangers. Its definitely good to be home, but forever grateful for the NHL Global Series experience! Now its time to turn our attention to remainder of the season and what it holds for the Leafs. Some great stories are emerging and we're excited to see how it all plays out. We are back after a couple of big wins for the Leafs vs Flames and Canucks and now the team is heading off to Stockholm, Sweden for the NHL Global Series for games vs. Detroit Red Wings on Friday, Nov. 17th and vs. the Wild next Sunday, Nov. 19th. We'll be there to bring you all the news and highlights from a fans point of view and as a wrap we'll be holding our first ever livestream on YouTube Sunday November 19th at 3 PM Eastern, 12 noon for our listeners in the West. Feel like we need to pinch ourselves and we are beyond excited to represent Leafs Nation in Stockholm! Before we get there though we still have business to attend to here at home. We begin this episode with a bit of Leaf Talk, reviewing the week that was. It was an interesting one, with lots of ups and downs, player movement, rumours and innuendo, culminating with perhaps Leafs most complete game, a win versus the Canucks. Then, for our Third Period segment we welcome Jackie Redmond, host on the NHL Network and the NHL on TNT, as well as backstage host for WWE Monday Night Raw. An avid Leaf Fan, we discussed how she feels about the team 15 games in, her thoughts on Sheldon Keefe, and how the new guys are fitting in. We also, talked a bit about her surprise teams in the NHL so far, her career in Sports Media, and touch on some of her favourite things in our For the Fans Q&A. This show was a great way to wrap things up before heading out on the road with our Leafs! Be sure to subscribe and follow so you don't miss any of our reports, and of course tune in for our Road Trip Wrap Up on YouTube Sunday at 3 PM ET. Welcome to a bonus episode of the show!  Not because we want to talk about the Leafs losing streak, which is up to 4 games now after the loss to the Sabres. But, because we have great guest coming up in our 3rd Period segment! Before we get to our guest, we of course have some Leaf talk, and we look into the 3 games vs the Kings, Bruins and Sabres. While we managed to get a couple of points from these losses, we know that a lot has to improve with our depth scoring, defensive play and penalty kill for this team to ultimately have success. With a few games left before they head to Stockholm, we're hoping they start to turn things around. What better way to start than with a win over Tampa? For our 3rd Period segment we have a very special guest and are excited to have 2-time Gold Medalist for our Canadian women’s hockey team and now a broadcaster with TSN, Cheryl Pounder! Cheryl joined us to talk about the Leafs, the Senators, and the new PWHL that is starting up in January 2024! Cheryl had some amazing insights into why the Leafs' newcomers may be struggling to find their footing, and it was truly a gift to hear her speak so passionately about the inaugural season for the PWHL and the amazing talent that we'll get to watch in the league beginning in January.  One final note, we are excited to announce that our humble little show has been granted NHL Media Access for the NHL Global Series, we we'll be bringing the event to you Leafs Nation! From the practices, games, and the interactive activities of the Global Fan Tour, we'll cover it all from the Fans perspective! You never know who we might bump into! October is in the rearview mirror, and the Leafs have just returned from a stellar road trip, going 3-1-1 and are 5-2 and 1 to start the season! A much improved record when compared to the slow start a year ago. On the cusp on a new month, November could be a wildcard, with a trip overseas, something the Leafs haven’t done in a long time, and never during the regular season. To kick things off, in "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” we take a look at the road trip that was and sing the praises of a couple of our veteran leaders, as well as delve into the challenges on the Penalty Kill. We also lament a trend that we do not want to see make a come-back as our ugly. In the The Ladies Talkin’ Leafs Highlight Reel we feature standout performances from Matthew Knies, William Nylander, and Morgan Rielly. These 3 gave us multiple plays to celebrate this month. Tune in to see if your favourites made the cut!  Then, we are happy to have our Insider, Mike Augello back on the show for The Third Period to give us his exclusive insights into the Leafs' start to the season. To wrap up, we preview the upcoming Leafs schedule, including a 5-game home stand and the much-anticipated NHL Global Series in Sweden from November 15th to the 19th. We’ll be heading to Stockholm next month, so be sure to subscribe to our YouTube and socials @LTL1917 so you don’t miss any of our road trip reports! November can be a pivotal month in the NHL calendar, with American Thanksgiving being the unofficial benchmark fuelling or dashing teams' hopes for making the playoffs. A strong start can go a long way toward securing another invitation to the spring dance. Looking forward to a November to remember. Speaking of social media, we've got some exciting content on our YouTube channel (@LTL1917). Join us for in-game videos and highlights from the matches we attend. Plus, stay tuned for a big announcement later in the show! It’s still early days for the 2023-24 NHL season, but that doesn’t mean that there’s any shortage of great plays and news to discuss! We open the show and get back to our regular season format with "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly," discussing early standout performances, the new goal song, and the absence of ugly moments in the first two games. Next up, it's time to roll the Ladies Talkin’ Leafs Highlight Reel! From Nylander's beauty against the Wild to Matthews' hat tricks, we break down the top plays and share our thoughts. Don't miss the love for Marner and Tavares, who play crucial roles in setting up these highlight-reel moments. In our Third Period segment, we explore upcoming milestone moments for key Leafs players. From Tavares approaching 1000 points to Marner's goal and assist targets, we break down the stats. Plus, Morgan Rielly's vocal stance on the NHL's decision to ban pride tape and themed jerseys sparks discussion. To wrap up the show we preview the Leafs' upcoming schedule, including a couple of road trip possibilities and exciting matchups with playoff opponents. Then, as promised we have some exciting news to share, so be sure to stick with us!  There’s nothing like the start of the season, and it’s so great to be watching games that mean something again! While the team is still a work in progress, there’s already plenty to be fired up about!  We’re beyond thrilled to be continuing the conversation, sharing our hopes and dreams for the team for another season.  Thanks as always for listening! Can you believe it, it's just 11 days until the regular season kicks off, and the anticipation for the Leafs' home opener is off the charts! The preseason is well underway, and the Leafs are holding a middling record of 3 wins and 3 losses. Plus, we've got 2 more games to go, with the final two preseason clashes with the Red Wings. Speaking of things to look forward to, how great is it that the legendary Joe Bowen is back in the booth, calling the shots for the Leafs alongside Jim Ralph? It adds a level of comfort and excitement knowing that we’ll be hearing their familiar call on TSN Radio and The Fan. Leafs hockey would not be the same without these 2 in the booth! As we get into the heart of the show, it's time to talk about the Leafs defense and goaltending. While the pairings may seem set in stone, we'll share our insights on the performance on the back end in the preseason games so far and give our thoughts on how we think Treliving and Keefe may deploy the D-corps and goaltenders during the regular season. For our 3rd Period segment, we'll tackle some intriguing questions from a recent Maple Leafs poll conducted by The Toronto Sun. It's always fun to see how our choices compare as well as get a bead on how Leafs Nation is feeling heading into the season. So, Leafs Nation, buckle up! We've got a fantastic episode lined up with all the Leafs talk you crave. With games that count just around the corner, we couldn't be more excited to be with you for another season talking about the team we all love! It’s an extra special show for a couple reasons - there is a lot of Leaf news to talk about and it’s also the 4th anniversary of our show! In this episode, we'll be reflecting on the incredible milestones we've achieved "Talkin' Leafs" with all of you! We wouldn't be here if it weren't for our listeners, so what better way to kick off this show than by paying tribute to you! Its been 4 incredible years, and we look forward to many more talkin' about our favourite team! Packing up all the patio furniture sadly signals the end of summer, but it also brings excitement and anticipation because it means the NHL season is just around the corner! Brad Treliving, while having a fairly quiet summer, managed to do a couple of tidy pieces of business in August, signing Auston Matthews, and extending Sheldon Keefe. We'll discuss these two deals and how they affect the bigger picture for the team leading into training camp. In our second segment, we dust off the Ladies Talkin' Leafs Highlight Reel and roll our top 4 show milestones over the past season. A Special shout out to our families for their input. They've been with us every step of the way, so who better to consult than the people who have encouraged us from day one! Then, in our Third Period segment, we sadly must say goodbye to two special players that we lost in August. We pay tribute to Rodion Amirov and Bob Baun, and then wrap up the show getting you set for the Leafs upcoming season with a review of the schedule. Life is filled with transitions. And while summer turns to fall, for Leaf fans its a renewed chance to witness greatness. Only a few weeks to go, and we'll have you covered for it all. We'll be back to set the stage September 27th, as we kick of Season 5! We are well into Patio Season and since our last show the Leafs have made some additions to their coaching and management staff as well as made some decisions with regards to their goaltending. G.M. Brad Treliving added Derek Clancey as an Assistant G.M., Player Personnel, which brings the number of Assistant G.M.’s to 5. With this hire, Treliving rounds out his staff adding a highly experienced team member with a Stanley Cup pedigree and someone he has worked closely with in the past. With the front office set for the most part, the team got to work with their first order of business–Samsonov’s arbitration case. Going into it, the Leafs and the player were quite far apart, but the Arbitrator ultimately awarded Samsonov with a 1 year, $3.55 million deal. To dissect the goaltending situation as well as the other looming contract negotiations, we are pleased to welcome David Alter, long time Leaf reporter, and veteran of radio and print sports media, to our Third Period segment. If like us you have been trying to understand the why behind some of the Leafs’ moves or non-moves, David is the guy you need to listen to! His thorough research skills and knowledge of the Leafs’ cap will leave with no worries for the remainder of the off-season! Before we get to David, we take a spin around social media searching for the Leafs/NHL players that seem to be making the most of their summers, as we highlight a few players that seem to be living their best life, and we also congratulate the latest Leaf to tie the knot, in what seems to be Hockey’s favourite off-season activity–Weddings! While July ended up being a pretty busy month for NHL business, we have a feeling that August will end up being a little quieter, perfect for patio time! When it comes to the Leafs, the conversation never really ends, and we’ll still be chatting throughout the month, and we’ll be back in a month, ready to start ramping up for next season! Until then kick back with us and raise a glass.
