Cinematic Sagas

We say hi and tell you the plan!  This drops with Captain America and Captain Marvel then episodes release every other week.  Come along to see how someone with no experience with the MCU reacts not only to the movies but to the overarching story when the movies are watched in chronological order instead of release order.

We jump almost to the end of the release order for the second installment.  Eight years later yet only a moment for us, Beth really meets Fury and almost doesn't recognize.  The universe is for sure bigger than imagined with this move, and it creates a very interesting contrast to Captain America while continuing to move us forward in the MCU.  Beth is coming out of her shell and settling into this crazy idea, but don't worry, she hasn't lost an inch of snark!

Captain America - The First Avenger, was a little misnamed when it released in 2011, but this time around, he is the first.  Beth is surprised, and Chris points out the issue of physics...that may come up later!  (don't tell her) We each have interesting opinions (I think) and Beth's perspective as brand new is fresh and fun!  Don't miss out on this and Captain Marvel which is also out today!

***Attention***  Some audio issues were discovered in the editing process so forgive the lesser quality.In this Episode, we pull the rose-colored glasses off and compare Iron Man to the Captains and realize that it comes up short.  Chris is surprised and Beth is disappointed.  But despite all her rage Chris does manage to bring perspective to the episode and Beth gets even more opinionated.  And regardless of how the movie compares, we have Iron Man and RDJ to thank for launching the MCU and thus for giving us content for our Podcast.  Come along on our ride!

This week we are watching Iron Man 2, similar to Iron Man 1 but in many ways better.  If you haven't seen it in a while stop right there and go back and watch it (or don't, whatever).  The things that bother Beth are surprising, and the things that bother Chris are just the repeats.  Much like Iron Man 2 this is an overall better episode, but some people will prefer the originality and discovery of the first one.

This time we watched the much-maligned Incredible Hulk!  Chris loved it as you might have expected but Beth goes on a journey of discovery that is very fun.  We diverge into some...NSFW territory but it's short and come on, who hasn't thought of it!  Overall not a bad addition to Beth's growing Nerd Knowledge...SHE WILL BE ASSIMILATED.

This is and always will be, at the bottom of the MCU pile.  Nevertheless, we had fun talking about its failures and the few bright spots.  Beth, as usual, is completely wrong about one thing, and Chris goes full circle on some opinions...at least admitting there is more story that could explain some failings.  However, THIS movie does not explore those enough to justify it so come with us on a fun journey and enjoy the new bit!!!

**NOTE** Not quite sure what happened but lots of tech difficulties with this one.  The worst is some sort of after processing artifact from about the 8-14 minute mark, where Chris' audio seems to have just gone away.  I will try and come back and fix this if possible, just be forewarned.Beth sees the culmination of everything before now.  We rate the movies, Chris talks waaaay too much and Beth remembers things!  Overall it was a much better experience than the audio will make it seem but hopefully, this is the last one with such major issues.  Thank you for sticking around!

We are past the audio issues (please gods above say it is true)!!!!  This episode introduces Beth to Phase 2 and oh boy is she in for a ride.  We quickly learn that making this tweak to the listening schedule was an excellent choice and introduce a slightly new format.  If you like it, write in!  If you don't, write in!  Beth is dying to hear from you!  Also, be on the lookout for some bonus content coming your way soon!

Warning, somehow the gain got turned way down for the first 9 minutes on Beth's mic, but we caught it and things smooth out.  We have been on quite the roller coaster with Iron Man and it all ends here (at least for the solo movies).  Very few people rate this well, but Beth and Chris both enjoy a lot of it especially in comparison to the first Iron Man.  It tells a good story, grows a character and is generally a fun ride.  Much like this episode!  So come along to this world of nerdage and discover your own inner nerd...you won't be alone!

Welcome back to Asgard Listeners!  You always knew we had to go back, and maybe you were dreading the return after the first Thor.  We sure were.  This movie garners a lot of hate and it isn't all undeserved but overall it is a fun ride compared to the first Thor (go ahead and @ me if you want @AsIfYDK).  Join us for that hard-hitting and deep cutting meta-analysis you have come to expect!

This is the one we have been waiting for, or at least Chris has.  Possibly, his favorite movie of the entire MCU and it was a nail biter going in as Beth's enjoyment has been a little hard to predict.  However, we have made it out the other side and the show will continue next time with Guardians 2 and then our next team-up video!  And then...have we got a surprise in store for you!

We return to space to see how the guardians are doing before the next big earthbound showdown.  We laughed, we cried, we had overall a good time so come check it out and then please for the love of Mike someone send in an email for Beth so she will shut up about it!

"If you get killed, walk it off."We have finally arrived!  The second team-up movie has come and gone, but we are still standing.  Amidst this trying time with the coronavirus and all the shutdowns it has been great to continue to see these movies with Beth and share them with you.  Beth was very tired in this episode which means there was a lot of digression content that just was not appropriate so hopefully nothing is too jarring.  Overall this movie gets a bad rep and I don't think it is deserved.  Come along to check out the various moments and hear the upcoming April Special!

And now we come to the end of the Maguire movies.  And because of what they did, I am glad to be moving on.  Tobey, you were my first but you weren't my best.  Beth and I spend much of the review wondering why they thought putting all this into one movie was considered a good idea and lament the waste of some actually great ideas.  And we see really what sets the MCU apart here as there is a lot of stuff introduced but not set up or paid off well.Next, we will continue with spiderman releases so Beth and I can replenish our recordings.  Hope everyone is staying healthy!Comic Hero by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3532-comic-heroLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

We have made it to that lasagna loving, Monday hating, dog abusing........oops wrong one.  The Garfield era, though short-lived was a lot of fun in my opinion and since I write up these blurbs you will deal with my opinion!  Beth and I come away mostly liking this one.  It does something better and some worse but this is still pre-MCU when a mediocre superhero movie was the norm!  The biggest take away is near the end....chant with me oh masses, "One of us, one of us one of us....."Comic Hero by Kevin MacLeodLink: https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3532-comic-heroLicense: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Much like Spider-man 3, they just tried to cram too much in...but thankfully this marks the end of lesser quality spider-men for the foreseeable future!  

Here it is!  This movie is the entire reason we began this sidetrack and honestly, it has been a fun ride!  Spiderverse is one of my all-time favorite movies and it is don't with such detail and love I can only think of one thing that did it better, but in some ways Spiderverse is incomparable...have I given away how I feel about this movie too much?  Well we have a gues so come get their opinions!
