The last episode of our main show. Thanks for the good times, everybody.  If the show was nice for you in any way, just swing by www.authorsdozen.com and drop a note someplace.  Smooches, Paul
Get back, get back, get back to where you once belonged. John Lennon believed that “Get Back” was aimed at his lover, Yoko Ono, who had begun accompanying him to many of the Beatles' recording sessions. Paul adamantly denies that this song was about Ono, but he’s admitted that her presence during recording sessions was a living nightmare, and let's all be honest it would be way funnier if Paul was telling Yoko to go ono hike.  Free books, podcasts, and more at www.authorsdozen.com Author's Dozen Theme Music by Andy Luiten, All Rights Reserved.   Additional Music: Song: Nick Froud - Breaking Sky (No Copyright Music) Music provided by Tunetank. Goals and limits are the same dang thing, and I don't care if sharks are a vital part of the ecosystem I still don't like 'em.  Free books, podcasts, and more at www.authorsdozen.com!
‘Adapt or die’ is a simplistic proverb. First of all, it should read ‘adapt or die prematurely,’ because, you know, of how death be. Death DO be like that. Come with me, children, as we learn how to turn the sad 'before' into the happily-ever-'after.' Your revised book is like your revised self: way cooler 😎 Free books, podcasts, and more at www.authorsdozen.com!
Without a push, you won't do anything original, and you can't push yourself. So don't be a pushover; be a pusher by pushing the envelope of how much you push and are pushed. I'm really pushing how many times I push the word push and now the word 'push' is starting to lose all meaning to me push push. Free books, podcasts, and more at www.authorsdozen.com!
Does your desire for change outweigh your desire for comfort? Well, good for you.    Free books, podcasts, and more at www.authorsdozen.com
This the start of a brand new show! Hop on board the train because we're leaving the station and going to the north pole to meet Santa and if you let hot chocolate cool down at all we'll feed you to the skiing hobo on the roof.  Recall the hurdles faced in the creative race: study, question, commit. This is how to finish a creative task. We did this a dozen times in 2020 and created 12 books. Each finished book resulted in lessons learned, whether through success or failure. Imagine we return to the racing metaphor, but with a twist: what if you were able to go back in time and run each race again, having already learned the lessons of prior failures and successes? What if you could run the same race over and over, only retaining the best aspects of each attempt? That’s a superpower. That’s a Rick and Morty episode. Burp or whatever. That's revision. Amy Lynn Green, author of Things We Didn't Say, joins me for a ship-shape discussion of my historical-sci-fi masterpiece SS Terminus. It's worth tuning in just to find out what "historical-sci-fi" means. A mysterious flying metal ship has upended the balance of power in the age of sail; a city has been flattened by weaponry not of this world; Captain Dawn – a hero of the Verland Empire – has disappeared with his flagship and all hands; and Robert Crowe, a Lieutenant of low and scandalous birth, is summoned to captain a vessel of the sixth rate, upon which lie all the hopes and fears of the Royal Navy.  Amy does this for a living, so if you want to be a great critic or be greatly critiqued, this is the episode for you. Read SS Terminus and more for free at www.authorsdozen.com. You can find Amy Green Books at www.amygreenbooks.com (go figure).   #podcast #write #creativewriting #authors #authorsofinstagram #writer #writerslife #fantasy #scifi #publishing #instabooks #readersofinstagram #books #readersofig #instareads #bookclub #bookpic #bookgiveaway #freebooks

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but flattery is just so, so embarrassing. Come hear the tale of my Narnia novel, and why you should or shouldn't try to be someone else.  Read free books and listen to cool podcasts at www.authorsdozen.com, or don't, I don't make the rules, I'm not your mom.

To be or not to be – what a dumb question. It's obviously way nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Learn why making things is all good, almost always.  Read free books and listen to cool podcasts at www.authorsdozen.com
I wrote a novel called Night of the Mayfly! It's a noir tale of a P.I. who can turn into a cat, as they tend to do.    Screenwriter, media mogul, and cousin Austin Yoder reads and critiques this novel's take on societal guilt, police brutality, and cat puns. We might even paws fur a clever joke meow and then. Just kitten; it's all cat puns.   Read Night of the Mayfly and more for free at www.authorsdozen.com. Follow @austinlaneyoder on Twitter and Instagram and whatnot for the LATEST Nick Cage Pics.     Can you afford to miss this? I think not.     #podcast #write #creativewriting #authors #authorsofinstagram #writer #writerslife #fantasy #scifi #publishing #instabooks #readersofinstagram #books #readersofig #instareads #bookclub #bookpic #bookgiveaway #freebooks
How do you write a character who isn't human? When does artistic license veer into incoherent vaguery? WHAT WAITS BEYOND THE VEIL OF DEATH? Find out in my interview with Laura Hood of the Church Boy Chat podcast! She read my novel Ghost Town, and she's got thoughts.  Read Ghost Town and more for free at www.authorsdozen.com. To check out Church Boy Chat, head over to https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/church-boy-chat/id1501889594 for really rad talks on relationships in a Christian context.
Nobody reads the description of these episodes! If you do, contact me at www.authorsdozen.com and I'll send you one free remote hug.  Also, check out our In-Depth Discussion of the novel Ironclad Nocturne with Author and Podcaster Dylan Terry. We talk about our bygone days of youth in Bluffton Ohio where Dylan and Paul spent any time not spent hitting one another with sticks and various less-than-lethal projectiles inaugurating their writing careers, which, you can tell by this very paragraph, ended up being the very foundation to our monumental literary talent.  Read Ironclad Nocturne and more for free at www.authorsdozen.com. To check out Dylan's work (and check out Dylan, wink wink (what a weird thing to say, I'm not sure why I said it (yes you are, self; he's single, ladies (and we know how much you like single ladies based on Beyoncé's number one hit single single ladies which I've never listened to and will assume that it's about liking single ladies)))) over at www.somenobodies.com , a group which is rightfully BLOWING UP right now, get over there.
This episode is literally just the audio from my YouTube video "I Write A Book Every Month And Here's How To NaNoWriMo." It's a better watch than it is a listen, so here it is on YouTube: https://youtu.be/zzE15Mo-82I If you're not into YouTube, feel free to just listen in! It's just a summary of the most important points I've learned so far when it comes to the National Novel Writing Month phenomenon.  Find more free audiobooks, books, and podcasts at www.authorsdozen.com
What it says in the title! I sit down with Ed Glazer @edglazer to discuss my novel Siren Deep. Figuring out how to fix this book is a shell of a time hahahaha Find Ed's excellent podcasts at rmyt.org and radioenactment.com or I will look for you, I will find you, and I will be upset at you.
How do you tell the truth when you tell a lie? And why should you care? No seriously, I'm asking. Truth is, there's free books and more at authorsdozen.com
I sit down with Chandler J. Birch @chandlerjbirch, author of The Facefaker's Game (virtually, of course, this is 2020) to discuss my novel Miserable Company. We discuss rabbit trails, comedy, and whatever it was I was trying to pass off as comedy.  Check out The Facefaker's Game on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Facefakers-Game-Chandler-J-Birch-ebook/dp/B0135H3484/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=) "For fans of Brandon Sanderson and Scott Lynch, a fantasy about a clever young beggar who bargains his way into an apprenticeship with a company of thieving magicians and uses his newfound skills in a vendetta against a ruthless crime lord." You can read Miserable Company for free at www.authorsdozen.com. You can also check out our prior episode with Chandler discussing his book.  Join us for the Critic's Collab as we learn the common joys and pitfalls of first drafts.
Film Critic, Writer, and Podcaster Christian Ubillus walks us through the second of the Author's Dozen novels: Run: Prometheus. Christian is the co-host of the excellent Cinema Drip Podcast https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cinema-drip/id1506127766 You can read Run: Prometheus for free or have it read to you on audiobook at www.authorsdozen.com. Christian enjoyed it thoroughly, but he'd be the first to tell you not to take his word for it. Or maybe LeVar Burton would. I don't know.  Join us for the Critic's Collab as we learn the common joys and pitfalls of first drafts, and how to cover up said blemishes in the revision.
