Hey guys! On today's episode, I have invited Codie, co-founder of Black Love + director of the Black Love Docuseries, to answer the following three questions: [1] Who/What did you want to be when you grow up? [2] Who are you now? [3] Who do you want to be when you "grow up?" I love so much of what she had to share, and I even learned quite a bit more than what I knew about her. Listen in as she reminds us to have grace with ourselves. Happy Hump Day, y'all! You can find Codie on IG: @codieco Check out Black Love online here! When I think of this woman I think of pure, genuine, authentic JOY... You know the song that says. "This joy that I have... the world didn't give it to me. Whether or not you're a mom, I think it's safe to say many of us have an ideal of what makes a "good" or "perfect" mom based on our own experiences with our mom, being a mom and/or observing motherhood in others. In this episode, I sit down with Shayla (@junkdrawermom) to discuss what she calls "Perfect Mom Syndrome," and how she suggests we remedy it. I love this woman, and I believe you all will grow fond of her as well! Her Bio: Shayla Caldwell is the creator of JunkDrawerMom, a YouTube channel that focuses on sharing her experiences and challenges with motherhood. She is passionate about inspiring women and moms to be their most authentic self and to be confident in their ability to overcome fear and insecurity, and has coined the phrase “hiding is overrated”. Most recently, she has been featured in Melanated Gold Homeschool Magazine and the Mommifacted blog. She’s looking forward to the next steps on her journey of parenting and being able to help women do the same nationwide. You can find out more about Shayla by following her on Instagram (@junkdrawermom), visiting her website www.junkdrawermom.com,  or subscribing to her YouTube channel www.youtube.com/junkdrawermom. In this episode, I discuss the lack of belonging I've felt as a result of so much that's happened in America. Today's episode is a true example of what it means for Yvette to be unplugged. I apologize in advance for the snot and tears, but this podcast is a journey NOT a destination. I hope you are doing well.  If you wanna check out more content by Tabitha Brown, click here. Based on Celeste Ng's 2017 bestseller, "Little Fires Everywhere" follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend their lives. In this episode, we look take a look at the theme of motherhood in this series. This series is full of so many themes that include: motherhood, surrogacy, race, class, sexuality, art, adolescence, choice/abortion, finance, white matriarchy, etc. However, this month the focus is motherhood. In this conversation, if you've seen the series for yourself, you will know we were not able to capture even half the conversations we could've had on motherhood. However, we got the conversation rolling. There are definitely spoilers in this episode, so if you have not watched the series and plan to, you will want to hold off on listening to this conversation. Enjoy! In this episode I welcome last week's WCW, Anjuli Paschall. She recently released her first book, Stay. Here is a little note about her book: "As women, we are exhausted. Our hearts are being wrung out to dry--squeezed and yanked in every direction. We take care of everyone but ourselves. We've gotten lost in bedtime routines and our Costco lists. We have lost our voices in the storm of everyday life. We need to be reminded to reach inward and heed the quiet voice whispering, Stay." There was so much goodness in this episode, I hope you all will take a moment to listen in as we discuss trauma, friendships and courage! You can find Anjuli... Honestly this here is why I love you. I relate to not allowing myself to feel all my emotions. I can sympathize with others and not myself. Being in therapy we focus on validating my feelings. And I think you need to hear this too, Yvette your feelings are validated! Realize that it doesn't mean you're playing the victim and want to be pitied or that you're not sensitive to other people's struggles and despair. Jesus would feel and retreat to the Father. That's the image we should remember when we start denying or trying to do away with the emotions that are stirring up. You are valuable! Continue being transparent and serving the Lord through your various roles, but always first and foremost as a daughter to The King💕
