Description

Where does culture come from? Who creates trends, the rules of etiquette, and the personal milestones that we feel so beholden to?Whether it's the pressure to have your most perfect wedding and "bridal moment", or to have the perfect career, family, and body, our lives seem to be dictated by stories that guide us how to play the "perfect" part in any given moment. But what happens when our personal values don't align with the prescribed path? How do we resist the external pressures and get back to our soul's highest calling?Bride Disrupted is my study of how media, social media, and the archetypes that appear in our stories and pop culture influence the roles we ourselves play. It's also an exploration of personal discovery and spirituality as a way to help you step outside of the pull of the culture-scape and come home to what you truly desire.Hosted by creative visionary and storyteller, Karen Anne Hopkins. In our modern approach to weddings, it’s often the wedding ceremony that gets the least amount of attention in the grander scheme of planning the logistics of a large event. Which, when you think about it, is rather disappointing given that the ceremony is really at the core of what a wedding is about. In this episode, I speak to Lindy Mitchell-Nillson from Heart to Heart Storytelling about the power of stories for building connection and creating deeper meaning in our ceremonies and our lives. “Intention isn’t just meaningless words or something you might jot down on a piece of paper. Intention has power. Intention is something that you’ve thought about, that you’re sending forward energetically into the world in front of you. It paves your path for the future. If you don’t have any of that, you're bumbling along blind and facing crisis after crisis as it comes up, but if you’ve set that intention it’s like a steamroller that’s running down the road in front of you smoothing out the path. So that if you hit an obstacle you can say, “OK, well this is how we’ve already decided that we’ll meet that obstacle.” and it becomes a small lump rather than a major hurdle. Whatever you put into the intention, that is the manifesto for your future.”Resources mentioned in this episodeGet: My book Wedding With Intention - Inside Wedding With Intention is my “Ceremony Story Framework”, a worksheet and guide to help you create a unique wedding ceremony.Follow us on Instagram: @bride.disruptedDownload: the free Wedding Planning Un ChecklistContribute: Ask a question or share a storyAbout Wedding With IntentionA mindful wedding planning guidebook and community to help you find your path to an authentic wedding, and stay there.Part social commentary, part guidebook, Wedding With Intention is a light-hearted guide and workbook to support you through the process of designing an intentional wedding –– where you can begin to distinguish between what's truly meaningful to you from the external pressures that influence ceremonies today.Get your copy today and get exclusive access to the Bride Disrupted Insiders community for FREE! In November 2019, bushfires surrounded Kelly’s parents’ property — the same location her wedding was to be held just a few days later.Moving forward with the wedding as planned, piece by piece the details began to fall apart as guests were stopped by roadblocks and unable to attend, vendors arrived hours late and even canceled on the day-of. Suffice to say, Kelly and Luke’s wedding did not go as planned. From bridesmaid break-ups to wedding day meltdowns, Kelly’s reflections provide a welcomed perspective in a time where CO-VID19 is disrupting wedding plans around the globe.Resources mentioned in this episodeDownload: the free Wedding Planning Un ChecklistGet: My book Wedding With IntentionContribute: Ask a question or share a storyFollow: @bride.disruptedFollow: @kelly_mccarrenAbout Wedding With IntentionPart social commentary, part guidebook, Wedding With Intention is a light-hearted guide and workbook to support you through the process of designing an intentional wedding –– where you can begin to distinguish between what's truly meaningful to you from the external pressures that influence ceremonies today.Get your copy today and get exclusive access to the Bride Disrupted Insiders community for FREE! Weddings are an opportunity to present the unique characteristics of your relationship to the world. But, in the race to capture the perfect wedding photographs that perfectly align with the wedding trends of right now, are we missing an opportunity to connect with our true selves, and find authentic moments in our wedding celebrations and ceremonies? In this episode I speak with Seattle-based wedding and elopement photographer Zoe Burchard, who wants everyone to know, “When it comes to your wedding, there are no rules!”Zoe and I discuss the problematic behavior we’ve seen in the wedding industry, particularly when it comes to wedding and elopement photography. We also discuss what it means to have a truly unique wedding, and how by showing up as your true self at your wedding, you give the people around you the space to feel comfortable to show up as themselves, too. Resources mentioned in this episodeDownload: the free Wedding Planning Un ChecklistGet: My book Wedding With IntentionContribute: Ask a question or share a storyFollow: @bride.disruptedAbout Wedding With IntentionA mindful wedding planning guidebook and community to help you find your path to an authentic wedding, and stay there.Part social commentary, part guidebook, Wedding With Intention is a light-hearted guide and workbook to support you through the process of designing an intentional wedding –– where you can begin to distinguish between what's truly meaningful to you from the external pressures that influence ceremonies today.Get your copy today and get exclusive access to the Intentional Insiders community for FREE!
