In this episode, we speak with David Harper, Director General of Monitoring and Data Services Directorate, within the Meteorological Service of Canada (referred to as MSC), a branch within Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). David’s group is responsible for the data collection and management pipeline that feeds into the MSC weather forecasting operations. David has served as Canada’s principal to the Group on Earth Observation (GEO), and most recently led Canada’s delegation to the GEO Ministerial Summit, held in Canberra, Australia.
In this episode, we speak with Eric Laliberté, Director General Space Utilization at the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). Given that Eric and the host are both francophone, a short portion of the interview was held in French followed by a brief translation. Eric’s passion for the aerospace industry comes through in this conversation, where we discuss the latest Canadian Earth Observation Mission (RADARSAT Constellation Mission) and the important role the CSA plays in moving Canada’s space industry forward. In this episode, we speak with Chris Hopkinson, Research Chair and Professor of Geography at the University of Lethbridge, Alberta. Chris is the general conference chair for the 41st annual Canadian remote sensing symposium, which is being held online as an e-conference due to the current pandemic. In this episode we speak with Prashant Shukle, who as a Director General within Natural Resources Canada, led a business transformation to create the Canada Centre for Mapping and Earth Observation (CCMEO). We also discuss Prashant’s leadership role in developing the Canadian Geomatics Study, which highlights the value of the Geospatial industry to Canada’s economy. As trained economist, Prashant brings a unique perspective to the Canadian earth observation industry and has played a key role in shaping its development and growth over the last several years.
