I’m your host Rachel Renee and I read you stories from writers across the country and beyond. With the Kiwis: Unsung Heroes of WWII by my late friend Bud Altmayer, I usually go bi-weekly with chapters, but because there was no episode last week, I’ve decided to continue on with the story. Welcome back to Blue Funk Podcast. I’m Rachel Renee and I read you stories from writers across the country and beyond. Before we get started with today’s story, I have some business to attend to. That business being an apology. For all my listeners, I’m very sorry for missing episodes. I guess you could say I caught the Blue Funk. These are discouraging times we live in. They are a bit scary too and I got a little overwhelmed. In that, I forgot the whole reason why I created Blue Funk podcast in the first place. With that being said, after I finish The Kiwis: Unsung Heroes of WWII, I’ll be taking a short break so that I can give Blue Funk Podcast a bit a makeover. For season two, the content will be more curated rather than Random. I may also separate Blue Funk and Kid’s Blue Funk into their own  podcasts. You may still submit your stories. I will always accept them, but I’m going to continue to dig around in the public domain. I’m finding so many tales that are interesting…possibly forgotten. This week we are diving back into The Kiwis: Unsung Heroes of WWII by Bud Altmayer.I thought I’d take a moment today to give you a bit of backstory of why I chose to read Kiwis. I starting caring for Bud back in 2012. Not going to lie, it wasn’t easy. He was stubborn and wasn’t afraid to give his opinion about anything. Often, it was in complete contradiction to what he needed, thus making it hard to care for him at times...but for some reason, Bud and I clicked. One day we were sitting around his apartment bored and he asked me if I’d be interested in reading one of his stories. I knew He had some old manuscripts in his office and I was curious, so I said yes. He suggested the Kiwis first.  It didn’t take long before I was finished, and since I had a little bit of experience with writing and graphic design, I offered I help him find a way to publish it.  Bud was always so confident, so it surprised me when he was reluctant. After a little bit of encouragement, we began our book publishing journey. We ended up self-publishing five of his books altogether. This week I begin reading a book called The Kiwis: Unsung Heroes of WWII by a dear friend of mine, Bud Altmayer. A big thanks to his daughter Sally Enright for allowing me to read his story on the podcast. I’m going read it roughly 2-3 chapters at a time, bi weekly. This will allow for other stories to be told in between. The Kiwis: Unsung Heroes of WWII is a story based on Bud's military experiences…in fact he would always say its 60% true and 40% fiction. Welcome back to another Kids’ Blue Funk episode! For this episode, I'll be sharing two stories. The first is THE One by six year old Trick, the first in his THE series. For the second, I'll be reading A Tale of Tontlawald from the Violet Fairy book edited by Andrew Lang. As most fairy tales, A Tale of Tontlawald is a bit more PG13, so it might be a good idea for parents to listen along with their kids to explain some of the themes and concepts presented in this story.
