In NLP we have a range of ‘Linguistic presuppositions’, these are words that many of us use and they give an insight into the assumptions that we all make about the world around us.Very often those assumptions can be very disabling and unhelpful to us.Whilst there are a range of these linguistic presuppositions, the one I want to focus on today is ‘makes’.When someone uses the word ‘makes’ in a sentence like “You make me feel undervalued” then what we are actually saying is that we have no agency over our ability to feel valued… And that the other person MAKES us feel valued. The problem then arises, what if this other person isn’t around and we need to feel valued? Where do we look at then?Taking back agency over our thoughts and behaviours can be incredibly empowering, and this very often starts with us understanding the small linguistic assumptions we make, usually without thinking! In this podcast I talk about the different ways that ‘makes’ gets used, and how we might think differently if we catch ourselves using this incredibly unhelpful word!Pleasee visit https://mysuccessfullife.co.uk/understanding-the-problem-we-cause-ourselves-by-using-the-word-makes/ to comment  directly on this post

In this podcast edition I talk in depth about how NLP works. NLP is primarily a system for understanding how we encode our subjective view of the world. When we encode our subjective view of the world we turn it into a program in our mind. NLP looks at that program and encoding and seeks to change the parts which are less helpful.Join me as I walk you through some practical exercises  to experience how your encoding works for yourself. I know you will find it enlightening!Show References:Noam Chomsky - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noam_ChomskyFind out more about how NLP can impact your life:Book a free discovery call

Stress can have a big impact on how we deal with our personal lives and business life. It can mean our resources are low, and when our resources are low success can be more difficult to achieve and maintain.I therefore think it is vital that we look after our mind in a variety of different ways, helping it to deal with the stresses of everyday life, and having a meditative practice, in my opinion, is an excellent way to do this.In this episode I've asked my good friend, Sue Wheeler from Ecoholistics to take us through a simple meditation, designed specifically to help with stress. As ever, if you enjoy these pod casts please rate, review and subscribe.
In this edition of " in conversation with…" I'm privileged to chat with Dr Grant McAree, a highly successful dentist and entrepreneur.A few things to really listen out for:Watch out for our discussion on self sabotage, there are some really interesting points made, can you notice any of these in yourself?Possibility or necessity? How do you think Grant views these in his mind? This is another meta program to really take notice of.Decision-making strategies. We all run strategies in our mind all of the time, notice how Grant is quite aware of the first part of his strategy but then it becomes unconscious. Can you notice your own decision-making strategy? As ever, if you enjoy this episode please rate, review and subscribe. In this first edition of mindset Monday I talk about how we can overcome communication problems with other people, improve performance and generally continue to be more successful, all by using the power of flexibility - you might call it "mindset yoga" I've found this technique to be one of the most powerful tools in my life, I've used it so many times in so many different situations. Is this something you could use?
Values underpin everything you do. They help you decide on what action to take in any given situation and inform your right and wrong. And yet, many people have values which conflict or drive them in unhelpful directions. Having an understanding of your values and what underpins them is therefore critical for a successful business. In this podcast I take a look at:What are values?Where do values come from? What’s the motivation behind our values? What are values conflicts and how can we begin to resolve them? Are your values driving you in the wrong direction without you knowing? THIS IS KEY - works especially well for weight loss or yoyo business failures -

The work of the psychology Professor, Clare Graves  between the years 1952 and 1959 gives us a deep understanding of human nature and our psychological maturity. His theory runs alongside Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and gives a deeper level of understanding as to how individuals and organisations think and therefore solve problems in the world in which they live.In this podcast, I look at the definition of values, and how they develop based upon the principles of Morris Massey.I then take a wander through the evolution of the various values levels from 1 to 8, looking at how individuals may relate to each values level, how they make progress from a lower level to a higher level, how their actions can be explained by various values levels, plus how organisations also behave following the same principles. Finally, I finish with a challenge, which values level are you accepting? And more importantly which values level are you rejecting?Join me on a journey of discovery…
Successful people and businesses always have a goal, or Definite Chief Aim. This is your aim or goal in business, life, family, relationships and health.Experience shows that in it you need to define what you want to Be, Do and Have (in that order) then place this in your time line in the future and understand the changes you need to make today to make this happen. Many of us in business have heard of SMART goals, Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timed… but now it’s time for a change and to look at goals and outcomes in a whole new light.I recommend we use a wholly different approach to working out if your goal is achievable which goes way, WAY beyond the SMART concept – the principle to use looks at your goal from 13 different aspects. In this podcast I explain all 13 aspects of a great goal – let me know how you get on…Suitable for dentists, doctors, chiropractors, osteopaths and other health professionals.
The Baader Meinhoff Phenomenon, otherwise known as the ‘Frequency Illusion’ is caused by our brain’s ability to recognise patterns. Have you ever bought a car and then noticed how many other cars there are on the road with the same make, model and colour as yours? That’s the frequency illusion in action. In this podcast, we delve into the phenomenon, ask why it happens and then look at how we can use it to achieve success and improve performance,
NLP utilises the concept known as presuppositions, these are beliefs which, if adopted, can help improve our own mind set and enhance our communication skills. In this episode of the podcast I take a look at 2 of these presuppositions which I recorded nearly 10 years ago… Things haven't changed, they are still totally relevant today. The first presupposition is called "There is no try" the second is called "All perception is projection".How much will you learn about yourself and communication after you have listened?Music: https://www.purple-planet.com
When we are communicating, particularly if that communication is challenging, asking the question "How is it possible for this person to believe that?" begins to give us an insight into their world, when we do that, they feel 'seen' and it helps us either understand their viewpoint with greater clarity or explain our viewpoint in a way that makes sense to them.Relationships deepen as a result and we're better able to communicate, greater for business and personal relationships, don't you think?Music: https://www.purple-planet.com
We all have that internal dialogue/chatter in our heads, don't we? And if you said "no" to that question, well, that's the chatter, the voice that said no!So how can we be kinder to ourselves with this internal dialogue? How can we use it in a positive way?Join me in this short 8 minute podcast to discover how to us it positively and kindly.Music: https://www.purple-planet.com
