Today we are talking about our trip to Colorado and how Anthony won MTB Nationals! Non-championship division.... in his age group.... being the only one.... Also covered is Trestle bike park (awesome), Breckenridge downhill (family-friendly) and Breckenridge cross country trails (also awesome).
We talk to Heather Poskevich about the Ride Across the West (RAW) and her second place overall finish. It was a brutal year, but she pulled through and made it the full 930 miles!
We took a trip to Washington DC, rode our bikes out there and then packed them in boxes and flew home. We've had gravel events for three weekends in a row, so let's talk about that!
We talked to three IWAR finishers about how their race went. We've got Keith Morical (Beginning), Eli Shank (37 minutes) and Kae Takeshita (1 hr, 26 minutes). All of these riders finished the event and Kae was first place in the woman's division!
Today we are talking to Deanne Herr and Rose Willey about their training plans, why they ride gravel and advice they might have for those considering getting more serious with their riding.
Today we talk to Rocky Vest about Break The Cycle 200 - a ride to raise funds, to support survivors, raise awareness, and fight human trafficking locally and wherever it exists. This event has been running for over 10 years now and has events in multiple states.
Today we talk to Cory Rood and Mike Ivancic about their Iowa Wind and Rock (IWAR) experiences. IWAR is a 340 miles race on south central Iowa. The finishers bike for around 30 hours and have to maintain a minimum speed of 10 mph to make the cut off times. WARNING - we do briefly touch on a homicide in our second interview.
The weather is getting better and the events are really starting up - we had 12 to talk about for this episode. Today with talk with Dan, race director for the Snaggy Ridge 105 about his event and the history behind it. Then we talk about what to expect for gravel rides and mountain bike races.
Today we talk to our friends Matt and Aubrey about various medical topics related to biking. This includes repetitive use injuries, mixing up your bike routine, cleaning wounds, what to bring in your med kit and much more.
Today we talk to Cory McAlpin about the South West Iowa Gravel Grinder (SWIGG) - an event in Vilisca Iowa 200, 100 and 50 km options. Anthony has been doing this event since the second year it was held and it really got him into gravel riding. Then we move on to spring..... stuff. Changing tires, adjusting bike seats, longer rides.
Today we talk about bike rides going on around Iowa, talk to the race director about Loess Hill Enduro and discuss our recent trip the Bentonville and what to do when bike trips don't go the way you want them to.
Today we are talking to Chris McQueen - Mastermind behind the new "Iowa Gravel Series". This is 5 gravel rides all across Iowa. Give it a listen and sign up for one or two or five.
In this episode we talk Iowa Mountain Bike Championship Series (IMBCS) with the series director Rob Cook. IMBCS is actually how Anthony got into mountain bike racing and is a big part of both Anthony and Jen's summers
This week we have another episode with Genesis talking about cold weather riding considerations, our experiences and how to make the cold a little more enjoyable.
Jen got a new bike, CITA got a new toy and we spent a bunch of time breaking them in and testing them out. Curious about fat bikes? Want to know what this new trail grooming thing is all about? Well then this episode could be your new favorite.
Ep 17 - Year In Review

Ep 17 - Year In Review

2020-12-2832:49

We go over goals we had in the previous year, if we achieved them, where we rode, reveal how much we actually rode and talk about goals for the next year. It's a shockingly novel idea, we know.
In this episode we talk with Genesis Gilroy - a friend of ours and a commuter year round. She's helped us immensely with clothing choice and appropriate layering, we thought she might be able to help other people as well.
Today we talk about the effects of winter on the dirt trails and how you can keep rolling despite the wet trails. And Cold. And dark. And snow. Also talking about ball bearings. Because Anthony freaking loves ball bearings.
In this episode we talk about Dubuque, Fort Dodge and Lake Red Rock - all in Iowa and all creating mountain bike trails from scratch! We also talk about bike lights and what kind of lights we use.
We tried something new with this episode! Neither of us can bike for 340 miles or even 150 miles so we went the easy route and just showed up to cover the event for you guys. Featuring conversations with riders, race directors and supporters. This was quite a departure from our normal episode. Please enjoy!
