If you are going to be a good parent you need to have a biblical understanding of what children are like. This is more difficult than it sounds because we live in a world that is selling us a lot of propaganda about people. But, it's essential. In this episode, Andre and I go back to the basics and think about the difference believing what the Bible teaches us about our children should make on the way we parent them.
God has a very simple rule for your children: obey your parents in the Lord. But that simple rule can be so difficult and unfortunately, sometimes as parents we make it even more difficult for our children by the way we parent. Andre and I talk about some of the ways we do that and how to make obedience easier for your children.
Andre and I take some time to talk about how fathers can work on developing healthy, encouraging, relationships with their children. Many dads say they want to! Few dads do. What can you do to be different? Listen in.
Should we as fathers work at helping our children have a higher self-esteem? What does that even mean? If not, why not? (Sorry about the phone ringing right in the middle of this episode! But still I think the discussion is important enough to overlook that twenty second embarrassment.)
Joshua is flying solo today talking about being a peacemaker as father. Specifically, he helps us think through some of the difference between a difference and a conflict and some of the various factors that can easily turn a difference into a conflict.
We all want what's best for ourselves and for our children. The problem is we are often confused about what's best for ourselves and our children. Andre and I talk about the danger of being an earthly minded father and how to evaluate whether you are wanting good things in a bad way.
Today we talk a second time about the skill of listening well. In what ways do we need too help our children learn to listen and how can we do that?
