Stanton and Cody cut to the heart of the latest in the world. In this episode, we review how Supreme Court justices are nominated given Stephen Breyers' conditional retirement. We lament once more that Congress is spending money without real debate, regardless of party. And we question why the United States didn't boycott the genocidal regime of China as it hosted the Winter Olympics. Self-Evident and Forgotten is a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions. We explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. In this episode, the duo explore the various hypotheticals of when a protest is acceptable to liberty lovers and when they are not, and how that fits with the recent trucker protest with our neighbors to the north. Also, forgive Stanton's audio quality. He recorded from his apartment, so enjoy the ambiance of cooking and barking dogs. Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. Alas, we're missing our vital chairwoman, because she's as busy as the last few weeks have been. It's been a rather wild time since we last saw each other. The United States fully pulled out of Afghanistan with tragic losses, the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks has passed, President Biden has begun to implement firmer vaccination mandates,  it appears the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had active plans to prevent President Donald Trump from executing his constitutional powers, and Texas is being Texas. Just a normal workday, though, right? Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. A couple of weeks ago, the United States Senate passed a $1 trillion dollar infrastructure bill, the largest in over a decade. It's the byproduct of bipartisan compromise, with President Biden and Senate Democrats sacrificing grander plans and Republicans acquiescing to some greener projects. But we here at SEF have a critical question: does such a spending plan fit the often-forgotten ideas that made our country spectacular? Here's a link to the Freakonomics episode on infrastructure. Worth a listen for a detailed look on how progressives and conservatives see the issue differently. Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. Last time, we started a discussion on foreign policy, setting out our individual principles for foreign policy. We began to see the differences and the disagreements that started to sprout up. Today, we're going to use an historically backed hypothetical scenario to test our principles and ask -- what would we do in those situations? Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. With the United States withdrawing from Afghanistan after two decades, many people wonder: what's next for America and her foreign policy? Well, what exactly is foreign policy? It's the collection of goals, plans, and actions by a national government in dealing with governments, companies, groups, and individuals from other nations. Sometimes, if you know what you're doing, you're able to direct those policies toward a general objective. What those objectives are can be the difference between sanctions and trade, war and peace. Today, we're going to explore how different kinds of freedom lovers think on foreign policy. Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. Recently, the Chairman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff (the military council that advises the president) General Mark A. Milley has come under heat for his remarks before a Congressional panel. The subject of his current disagreement with Republicans his defending policies in the military that purportedly teach our armed service men and women "woke" ideas that Republicans think undermine our military preparedness. Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. We're missing Kristi again! So, Cody and Stanton yuck it up over something rather...yucky. As we and others across the state and country come together in person, more and more businesses are opening, schools are hopefully going back to in-person learning in the fall…it feels like things are getting back to normal. But, there's a growing threat now that people are back into the regular economic drive, a consequence born from misguided government policy. Welcome to the terrible, no-good world of inflation. It's insidious, it's powerful, and its threat to a free society is almost entirely unknown to most Americans. Welcome to Self-Evident and Forgotten, a podcast on the truths of liberty and odd opinions! Hosted by Stanton, Kristi, and Cody, we explore the beautiful ideas often forgotten today that have given life to a free, peaceful, and prosperous society. Liberty lovers alike, share common values: a principle of limited government, a belief in the fundamental equal dignity and rights of all people, and an enduring sense that freedom is not only an effective foundation for society, but a moral one….HOWEVER, there are times when we can have serious disagreements with real impact on not only policy, but the movement for freedom itself. Today, we conclude with our final installment of our Great Debate series. We've done immigration, intellectual property, and Big Tech. Today, we tackle the very tricky subject of children. Namely: do parents own their children? The world decries capitalism for the evil of monopolies -- those greedy profiteers who would sap the people of their wealth by being the only ones who produce a good or service. But most people fail to realize that so called "natural monopolies" are impossible. The only monopoly you see today aren't from the free market, but from the government. In fact, the longest running, best protected, and most common monopoly are government public utilities, the providers of some of our most necessary services. Join us and Sarah Hunt of Hunt Public Policy as we discuss how the rise of broadband utilities, along with all the others, threaten the foundation of our right to property, and a prosperous society. A free people demand that they solve their own problems. The same principle (of subsidiarity) applies directly to communities, as well. Whether we're talking about state rights vs. the federal government, your local school district vs. the state capitol, or your store manager vs. corporate HQ, those most immediately and directly connected to a problem are best suited to solve the problem. Abandoning this idea means surrendering not just your responsibility to deal with difficult situations, but your autonomy to do as you see proper.
