This week we are looking at perhaps one of the biggest kaiju films of the last 20 years. A film that takes special effects into a new era for the genre, by an Academy Award winning director. Will the latest, greatest remake of the original 1933 movie outshine the original? Will it symbiotically add to the mythos of the character? Will we find out what really killed the beast in this modern Prometheus? Find out along with us as we discuss Peter Jacksons magnum opus in 2005's "King Kong"
This first animated feature from the 2000s Animated Kong series is here, and Patrick and Myles wish it wasn't. This film is a serial continuation of the TV series, with a lack of returning series regulars, but takes the action to a new location and adds the mirth of music. Join us as we watch and tolerate 2005's "Kong: King of Atlantis"
A parody Kaiju film looks to take the stars of the 1950s monster movies and put them in a ultra-low budget comedy. Will the monster's lack of clothing get a chuckle out of Myles and Patrick or does this movie need to be lost from the kaiju canon? Find out along with us as we take a look at 2005's "The Naked Monster"
This week we do a full watch along commentary track in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Big G. Grab a copy of the film and press play along with us as we commentate all 2 hours of the film and weight in on where this film ranks in the annals of kaiju film history. This is the 2004 classic "Godzilla: Final Wars"
The final part of the Kiryu duology and director Masaaki Tezuka's Millennium trilogy is up this week. Here we have another direct sequel to a Showa era film, but unlike the other films that springboard off of 1954's Godzilla this week we see the first direct sequel to 1961's Mothra. So join us in celebrating this week's episode as we look at 2003's "Godzilla: Tokyo SOS"
We get to see director Masaaki Tezuka take another bite at the apple with the Big G, this time bringing back a fan favorite foe and reusing plots from his first outing. Will this movie delight audiences more than Vs Megaguirus? Will Tezuka get another chance to relive his Showa childhood in the director's chair? Find out as we look at the history of 2002's "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla"
We finally look at one of the most lauded and different films in the Millennium era of Toho films, as Heisei Gamera director Shusuke Kaneko is given the keys to the Big G kingdom. But does this movie hold up in the wake of more than 20 years of other kaiju films or does it need reevaluation? Find out as we take a long hard look at the history of 2001's "Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack!"
We take a brief detour from monster movies to look at a very 90s take on everyone's favorite ape. Join us this week as we talk quickly about the history on 2001's "Kong: The Animated Series"
We are joined this week by filmmaker and writer Graham Skipper, author of the "Godzilla: The Official Guide to the King of the Monsters" to kick off this April Fool's launch of Season 6 of the podcast. We look at the next film in the Millennium series as a new director and classic foe returns through a black hole portal from the past. Has Godzilla met his match? Find out along with us as we look at 2000's "Godzilla vs. Megaguirus"
This week we finish off the 5th season of the podcast by looking at one of our favorite decades of Kaiju cinema. Is this the best decade of monster movies yet or does the dreck drag it down? We close out the Mothra series as with the last Toho film in what is considered the film Heisei era (though not the final Toho film in the 90s).
