Believe Her
Description
Believe Her is true crime, upside down. In September 2017, young mom Nikki Addimando shot and killed her partner, Chris Grover. She was sentenced to nineteen years to life in prison for murder. Through rare access to police audio, a month-long trial, conversations with Nikki, and original reporting, journalist Justine van der Leun lays out the killing, the evidence, and the aftermath. As this six-part series unfolds, listeners will put together different pieces of a disturbing puzzle. One thing is clear: perception β reality. Believe Her is a riveting chronicle that grapples with assumptions we make about domestic and sexual violence, the long reach of trauma, and the ways in which survival is criminalized, leaving us shocked at how far people will go to avoid seeing what's right in front of them. From Lemonada Media and Spiegel & Grau.

Great show but too many adverts.
"made her have sex"? you mean rape. call a spade a spade.
omg. if i hear another person referring to chris's abuse of nikki as "rough sex," i am going to lose my mind. this is maddening...
No one knows what someone is capable of - not even that person until put into a specific scenario. I donβt blame his mother for taking up for him and thinking he wasnβt capable of what he is being accused of. No one that loves someone would want to believe that. But - I bet every mother of everyone found guilty of something horrendous would find it hard to believe as well - that doesnβt mean it isnβt true.
excellent podcast
funny how juror seems to think its so black and white when in situations like these there is a whole lot of gray
Listen to the robins' songs. π Nikki seems an amazing mother despite the unimaginably difficult circumstances she's traversed in life. I hope she and her children are reunited even sooner than is presently in store. This is an incredible podcast - highly recommended.
That Nicole woman is so ignorant. So they could have a secret kinky sex life and thatβs believable but her being abused is Unfathomable. You dear lady are delusional!
No responsibility whatsoever. Always a victim.
This is such an important and well done podcast. Highly highly recommend.
best podcast I've ever heard
And Chatty Juror. These women are awful
The Frowning Juror needs to get educated.
the views these people hold regarding domestic violence and the victims impacted are absolutely mind blowing.. chatty juror using a lifetime movie as baseline and guidance on what Nikki should have done is more than infuriating
those phone calls with her baby's π let this woman go
I heard the believe her is somewhat good but it is excellent one and i loved it best regards from https://hunk-tv.com/ TQ.
wait, how do they get to just say that Chris was asleep when there is no way of knowing that? so the jury can just be fed any story to hold on to? how can they say that she searched how to kill Chris on his phone? I don't even know the password to my husband's phone! did Chris have a password protected phone?? I can't say that she doesn't deserve some kind of punishment but I also can't say that she does. i feel like she shouldn't be taken from her already affected kids.
so far this is so hard. I definitely believe that Nikki was abused multiple times by multiple different people and that without proper help and validation, it lead her down a dark even inevitable road, but it is also tough because Chris is gone. I can't hear Chris. I can't get his side. I can't assume that Chris was an angel but I cannot write him off as a devil either. This story makes me think about what I believe to be true and certainly is a great example of how our legal system treats victims. Should our legal system be looking to discredit her, get the win, and send someone to jail and call it justice?
I don't have words for how much I despise Nicole.
great podcast ready for the next episode ππ
