Police questioned the husband and father, Hanumantha, but his alibi checked out. Six years later, the case is still unsolved, and authorities won’t discuss it. STRANGELAND is a new series from audiochuck that is reexamining cases in immigrant neighborhoods. These investigations go where the police couldn’t to uncover the real story behind a headline crime. Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck
On May 5, 2003, Chi Hyon Song, a 30-year-old mother, along with her two-year-old son, and their 56-year-old nanny Eun Sik Min, were all slain, execution-style, in their modest apartment in Koreatown.  LAPD detectives first suspected Song’s husband, but his alibi was air tight. With no other suspects, the case goes cold. That is, until 2008, when a law enforcement DNA database turned up a new connection to the case. Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck
Who is this new suspect that the LAPD has pegged for the brutal Koreatown triple murder? A modest family man from the South Korean countryside who has some dark secrets — over two-and-a-half million of them. Do they add up to a motive for murder?
LAPD detectives take their first crack at their new suspect. However, things just aren’t adding up for the cops — or for Robin Cho. Afterward, Cho leads the police on a wild ride across Los Angeles and exhibits some very suspicious behavior. Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck
LAPD investigators pounce on Cho, interrogating him twice in the same day. After hours of getting nowhere, emotions boil over in the interrogation room. The cops eventually arrest him for murder… but they may have missed their chance to make the case.  Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck
Ep 5 of 10: The Trial

Ep 5 of 10: The Trial

2021-11-0839:325

The man dubbed “The Koreatown Killer” heads to trial, and the prosecution presents its case — with no witnesses, no weapon, and no concrete motive. The jury must decide if one piece of evidence is enough to send Robin Cho to Death Row. Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck
Ep 6 of 10: We Affirm

Ep 6 of 10: We Affirm

2021-11-0831:495

After almost eight weeks of trial and deliberations, there’s a verdict. However, though the jury has reached a decision, they don’t seem very confident when it comes to sentencing Robin Cho. Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck
As part of Strangeland’s reinvestigation, Ben and Sharon have been keeping a list that goes way beyond culture clashes and misunderstandings. It shows that the prosecution’s already-tenuous motive for Cho is even less solid than they thought. At the same time, Cho’s behavior doesn’t do him any favors. Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck
It’s courtroom 101: the prosecution’s trying to make a case, the defense is trying to get their client off, and it’s the jury’s job to figure out the truth. But how much of the science that’s presented at court is actually scientific? Ben and Sharon look closely at specific pieces of evidence presented at trial and find out that some of the bedrock assumptions about evidence and crimes… could be wrong.  Strangeland is an audiochuck production. Connect with us on social media:Instagram: @audiochuckTwitter: @audiochuckFacebook: /audiochuckllcTikTok: @audiochuck

Wait a second, how is it that she said the wife was still bleeding from the neck when she saw her in the room? How could that be if the autopsy says they died around 3:30 or 4:30? That's hours before the husband got home. They would've bled out in 2 minutes. AND WHERE'S ALL THE BLOOD?

There it is, ladies and gentlemen. Marriage is a business, and it just doesn't happen there it happens everywhere, just in a different form. Why do you think you need a marriage license ( business license).

They're not putting on their investigative hats. Why do they think the killer had to put the gloves on? Why couldn't they just take the gloves. Was the partial glove already on the tape? Where did the tape come from ? Did they find a roll of tape at the crime scene or at Cho's house? And if this was a premeditated murder like they say, why would the killer forget to bring gloves?

so wait a second. Did they ever find duct tape at cho's house? Did they even find a box of gloves at his house? What exactly did they find at his house that links him to the murder besides his DNA? Anyone could've put his DNA there. What about the plam print on the tape that doesn't match cho's.

If I stole something in a store and I put it in someone else's pocket, does that mean that person is a thief ? Did they commit the crime, or was it me?

here's the DNA evidence explained: the murderer pulled into his parking space knowing what he was going to do, sees gloves sticking out of/hanging over a box in the parking space next to him and thinks "oh yeah I should use gloves" so he takes them and uses them - maybe 2 pairs and layers them so the gloves fragments that stay behind don't have his DNA on them. the end.

you guys are killing me. I just spent the last 30 minutes yelling at my phone in my car. what do you and the defense attorney mean you can't explain the DNA?!! Didn't you say a couple times in the first episode or 2 that Robin Cjo's parking spot was NEXT TO the victim's??? As soon as I (thought I) heard that I was like "Oh it was probably the husband."
