Glad you are focusing on science funding cuts. Where government funds are critical is in basic research which pushes foundations of knowledge for long term benefits. Research where the long term profits are too distant and uncertain for private investment. Some of the basic research will never create new products or science paradigms. But when they do the payoff is incredible. Think quantum mechanics initially the scientists thought it had no practical value but now economy is based on it.

Disappointed to hear Katty repeating the nonsense "transgender treatment for mice," when it's transGENIC. In other words they are testing gene therapy on mice. Which is used to cure eg cancer, mrna vaccines etc.

Anthony, if you ask Katy a question, how about waiting for her to answer it instead of speaking over her. Her points are infinitely more clear than yours.

Archie Bunker is based on the UK sitcom Till Death Do Us Part. The main character was Alf Garnett. Same premise - a bigot and racist challenged by his daughter and son in law.

At 47 minutes 19 seconds, Katty you could add "The world's oldest democracy". Everybody I met here in Australia was shocked by the January 6 attempted insurrection.

It's all well and good to say "democrats think that what offends them will make the difference, but voters know the difference between what offends them and what affects them" - but the repulsion he exerts over democrats isn't so much about being offended by him, as it's about *what happens to your democracy* when you vote in an obvious liar, rapist, pal of Epstein, guy who's notorious for stiffing everyone who ever worked for him, guy who makes threats to his enemies etc.

Disgusted by Scaramouche comments on his mother ..a Catholic being in favour of abortion...abortion is a hidden holocaust...it's never justified...as a Catholic I am ashamed of Catholics who ignore the deaths of millions of unborn babies

Sounds like a win for US democracy. Nice to see this kind of civility for a change, rather than the usual name-calling and tribalism.

Why did Walz spend all his time looking down and making copious notes while Vance was speaking? It was a really bad look. Vance only looked forward or at Walz, he made no notes. Even at 85 minutes in, Walz looked like he was composing the Gettysburg address on paper. Vance showed himself to be a masterful debater, given his background that's no surprise. Yes, Vance won that debate, as much as it pains me to say so. And yes, this was the start of the "Vance 2028" campaign, no doubt about that.

I'm in the UK and completely obsessed with this podcast, it's a joy. I would give my eye teeth for us to have any kind of coverage as engaging and nuanced as this about eg Indian, Chinese, Russian politics as well, but what a blast of fresh air this is compared to UK journalism on the topic, which tends to either be so stiff it lacks nuance altogether, or so partisan it's almost cartoonish in its portrayal of the various players. Thank you!
