Description

Join Lee, Darren, Jim and Elton as they waffle, wonder and jabber on about film, geek news, video games and any other tangential rubbish that spring to mind, before reviewing a movie from yesteryear. Removing the Rose Tinted Specs to see if a film really deserves its classic status or the Sh*t Covered Goggles to see if a bad film is actually as awful as its reputation.

Trainspotting

2024-04-1702:22:17

This weeks shambles is solely Lees fault due to his inability to read an email, or a diary or tell the difference between the number 16 and 23.  However, this week, Jim laments the quality of graffiti these days and witnesses a police raid on a old age pensioner drugs ring. Elton wonders why everything sounds so odd in Three Body Problem. Darren gets a shiny head and says a lot (without saying a lot) about Fallout the TV show. While Lee suffers gastric issues thanks to a weekend of Guinness, Pizza and a burger that has mac n cheese hidden under a cheese burger.  Then after a quick bout of feedback its on to this weeks film. A movie that asks you to "choose life" or better yet choose friends who are not violence addicted psychotics and heroine junkies as we go Trainspotting.  Media discussed this week Trainspotting (Film 4 / 4OD) Three Body Problem (Netflix) Fallout (Amazon Prime)   Music "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Roadhouse (2024)

2024-04-0902:28:15

This week Jim returns to normality, but still manages to watch a film about screaming foreheads. Elton runs, well walks, well kinda misses, a half marathon. Darren gets a new(ish) phone which is not wanted by the police, HONEST! He also watches Monkey Man and plays a horror game fighting Muppets (as you do). While Lee takes part in a film quiz, in a cinema, surrounded by "media studies" students, a pillow of popcorn hangs in the balance. And he also watches a creepy low budget indie film found in the depths of Amazon Primes rent list.  Then after some feedback for last weeks episode we move on to this weeks film. A remake (kinda) of the Patrick Swayze 1989 action classic Roadhouse which should have perhaps been renamed Beach Front Tiki Bar. Media Discussed This Episode  Trail of the Screaming Forehead (Amazon Prime) Monkey Man (Cinema release) All the Fiends of Hell by Adam Neville (book) My Happy Neighbourhood (PC/Xbox) Monolith (2022) (Amazon VOD rental) Roadhouse (2024) (Amazon Prime) Roadhouse (1989) (Amazon Prime) Music "Boogie Party" and "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Totally Killer

2024-04-0202:23:21

This week Jim watches Madam Web, pray for mojo. Elton has a Traitors evening and spends most of this evening trying to explain to Lee what Traitors is. While Darren works over the holiday break, enjoys Blue Eyed Samurai and comes under questioning about Batman and Ninjas... Also we may have slipped into the 1930s gangster speak which makes sense in context... I won't try and explain it here. Then after a bit of feedback its off to the 80s to point at stuff and say "thats a bit rubbish" over and over, while trying to find a serial killer in a Max Headroom mask, in this weeks movie Totally Killer. Media Discussed This Week Madam Web (cinema and Amazon Prime rental) Traitors (BBC iPlayer / Board game shops) Blue Eyed Samurai (Netflix) Stray (PC / Xbox / PS5) Return of Captain Invincible (Amazon Prime) Totally Killer (Amazon Prime) A lot of 1980s musical acts. This week due to unforseen circumstances which may or may not be introducing us to GI Joe, Elton is not in the first half of the podcast as he has gone to live with all your missing childhood pets on a farm. Elsewhere however, Jim is astounded by another oddly normal cryptid and is interviewed on a YouTube channel... Darren watches The Gentleman and also is overcome with emotion thanks to Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. While Lee watches the latest found footage horror hot ticket Late Night With The Devil  and the Netflix film Damsel Then after that we get seriously self congratulatory with all the positive feedback from last weeks episode and finally move on to this weeks film. Jeffrey Wright stars in the biting Oscar nominated comedy drama American Fiction   Media Discussed this week: Morgan Scorpion Channel (https://www.youtube.com/@MorganScorpion) The Gentlemen (Netflix) Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (Cinema release) Late Night With The Devil (Cinema release) Damsel (Netflix) American Fiction (Amazon Prime) Music:"Boogie Party" and "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ "Albertross" excerpt from "Madballs (You Told Me They Were Vitamins Mix)" by Makke available via Remix 64  https://remix.kwed.org/remix/2664

This week is.... Well... Its a thing... We see the return of Darron Diamond (just long enough for us to probably be hit with enough copyright issues to ensure we never show up on any platform again) Elsewhere Jim watches Community and the second week of batchelordom causes him to wonder about Emergency Ambulances in a way that might confuse and confound. Elton spends his week becoming an emotional wreck thanks to the ending of several tv shows. Darren watches Code 8 Part 2 and gets excited by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, while Lee whiles away a Saturday night watching Sam Rockwell dance and Anna Kendrick turn manic pixie dream girl up to insanely irritating levels in the Neflix show Mr Right. Then after some feedback for last weeks show its on to the main event... A true grenade thrown into our collective laps as we all shout Yo Joe, a lot and realise precisely how many double entendres were being passed before kids eyes in the 80s as we review Eltons pick GI Joe The Movie..  Media Discussed This Week Community - Netflix Glow - Netflix Masters of the Air - Apple TV+ The Office (US edition) - Netflix The Sopranos  - Apple TV+ The Many Saints of Newark - Netflix Code 8 Part 2 - Netflix Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow - Comic / Trade Paperback Mr Right - Netflix GI Joe The Movie - DVD / YouTube Music "I'm Just Joe" sung by Darron Diamond (Parody of "I'm Just Ken" by Ryan Gosling / Mark Ronson) Backing track used for parody under UK Copyright (Fair Use exception parody, caricature and pastiche) "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Freaks (2018)

2024-03-1302:22:32

This week, Jim is home alone with nothing but a pot noodle fort and a warhammer 40K bolter for comapany. Darren falls asleep to Sandra Bullocks Lost City while Lee foils Bromleys most inept movie pirate operation, loses his headphones and has a cinema to himself to watch Dune part two in the front most centre seat. Then after some tube / straw / pipe talk... Yes really! We move on to this weeks film a low budget, high concept, little seen sci fi thriller on Netflix... Freaks. Media Discussed this week Dune Part Two (Cinema Release) Warhammer 40k Bolter (Xbox) Lost City (amazon prime) Freaks (Netflix) Music "Boogie Party" and "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Hell or High Water

Be prepared to have your mind blown as we have a green room pre recording recording revealing the difference between a tube.. and... a pipe. The results will turn your world upside down... Well perhaps slightly skew it until the weird Russian accents kick in.... AAAAAAnyway... This week Jim spots a (kinda) Cryptid amongst the tombstones and is besieged by tech issues, Elton goes dental, Darren reads some books and watches Dune 2: Sandy Boogaloo, while Lee watches a French crime series which may have a scene of people in animal mascot costumes doing naughty things... oh and he is almost killed by a cheese and pickle sandwich. After that its on to this weeks movie... It was supposed to be Taking of Pelham 123, but Amazon, MGM and Google screwed the pooch on that... So its the fall back option of the modern day neo noir western movie Hell or High Water... Welcome to this weeks episode. Which has Jim presenting us with a golden opportunity (or possibly a magically phallic monarch), Elton has rubber pants (maybe), Darren spends a whole week in the cinema watching three films back to back, while Lee Helldives, screams and also acts as hotline for a lovecraftian home insurance company. Then after some feedback regarding Ben Affleck in The Accountant and a misunderstanding of what film we reviewed last week, we move on to this weeks movie. Is it a comedy-horror? a horror-comedy? Splatstick or a a rockband movie like The Monkies made back in the 60s? All these questions (might) be answered as we review the Foo Fighters in Studio666 Media Reviewed This Episode Helldivers (PS5) Home Safety Hotline (PC / Steam) The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - Extended Editions (Cinema Release) The Accountant (Netflix) Studio666 (Netflix)   Music "Boogie Party" and "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Fellowship of the Ring (Main Theme) by Howard Shore Used for illustrative purposes under UK Copyright (Fair Use exception pertaining to criticism & reviews)

2024-02-2201:58:17

This week Jims Anti-Dairy-Biotics tribulations continue, Elton has trouble whacking off a tyre so gets someone else to grab his tool and whack it off for him, Darren feels like Madam Web might not be all that, and Lee watches a few films ranging from Wonka to The Beekeeper, all the while fighting to keep himself awake after being up since 5am. Then after a touch of feedback its on to this weeks film...  Either a glorious evocation of 90s nostalgia action flicks or a misguided coke fuelled excuse to get a bunch of teen boys in their pants and throw Lou Gossett Jnr through a window? Who can say? But we'll try and find out as we review Toy Soldiers... Media discussed this week The Stanley Parable (PC / Xbox / Playstation) Toy Soldiers (Amazon Prime) Wonka (Amazon Prime - Paid rental) The Beekeeper (Cinema release) The Accountant (Netflix) Argylle (Cinema Release) Madam Web (Cinema Release) Borderlands (Cinema Release) Music"Boogie Party" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis Bextor and Toy Soldiers by Martika  Used for illustrative purposes under UK Copyright (Fair Use exception pertaining to criticism & reviews)

This week, Jim goes retro with the Thief games, Elton bows out of his week, Darren finds he has the power to break everything and is looking forward to playing pointy Lara Croft again in the Tomb Raider remasters and Lee goes grumpy old man shouting at clouds after watching The Marvels and Expend4bles (yes it is spelt that way) After that we have some feedback and a brief visit into a magical realm of Jim Moon's Dreamatorium Then its on to this weeks movie. A film that is perfect for Valentines day and a date night viewing as it will undoubtely have every couple giving each other the suspicious side eye. David Finchers cross between Columbo movie of the week and a film adaptation of Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.... Prison Ship Star Slammer

2024-02-0702:13:25

This week Jim Tastes History and watches What We Do In The Shadows, Elton is mocked by his Dentist and discovers X-Rays, Darren watches Argyle and Lee has some thoughts on Oppenheimer, Lift (aka Money Plane 2.0) and Nic Cage going off the scale in the small potboiler thriller Sympathy for the Devil.  Then after a bit of feedback and in a desperate bid to not have to review this weeks movie a few rubbish life hackzzz we finally have to review this thing... A movie Lee has waited since 1988 to watch, but now very much feels he has wasted his life watching... Ready Or Not

Ready Or Not

2024-01-3102:33:35

This week Jim has some words for the transport company running the Trans Pennine Express... Especially the use of the word "Express". Elton suffers at the hands (or comments) of arm chair world war 2 aviation "experts". While Darren plays knock off PokeMon (or is that Pikey Mon?) in the form of PalWorld. He also has an uncomfortable time watching Emma Stone in Poor Things in the cinema. Lee on the other hand is having a whale of a time cleaning patios in a video game, namely Power Wash Simulator... Add to that some updates about republishing Blackdog Version 1, guessing how close we are to the apocalypse based on the price of Freddo Frog chocolates, some woefully inaccurate reporting of world news events and moaning about how loud pubs are and you'd think that was the podcast done.  BUT NO!  Air fryers continue to plague the discussion to the point it is now being considered about pivoting the cast to simply a cheap ass cooking show. But in the end we do get back on track as our unofficial "Eat the rich" theme continues as we review the "subversive" darkly comedic thriller Ready or Not Media discussed this episode  Masters of the Air (Apple TV) Poor Things (Cinema release) Sandman Audio drama (Audible) Power Wash Simulator (PC, Xbox, Playstation) Palworld (PC, Xbox) Lethal Company (PC) Ready or Not (Disney+) Prison Ship Star Slammer aka Star Slammer (Amazon Prime) Music "Boogie Party" and "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

White Tiger

2024-01-2402:34:02

This week we learn that Jim is back on the cheese and in a coincidentally related note is also hunkering down from the wind. Elton, is proud of his artist mum and also teases a new podcast project that is in double umbongo embargo. Meanwhile Darren dives into YouTube to find out if the tv shows he liked as a kid in the 70s hold up (spoiler noooope!) and finally Lee watches two lacklustre movies (Role Play and Ghostbuster:Afterlife) and then recounts a trip to the planet Avora, a world of cocktails and out of work panto actors in trendy Hoxton area of London. Oh and how do you say Ibuprophen?... Lee appears to have it a little wrong... Then after a combo of Saltburn feedback and prostrations upon the alter of the cult of the Air Fryer its on to this weeks movie. A pointedly satirical tale of social control, class, freedom, repression and serfdom in India. White Tiger.  Media discussed this week Role Play (Amazon Prime) Ghostbusters Afterlife (Netflix) Sky (1975) (YouTube) Saltburn (Amazon Prime) White Tiger (Netflix) Music "Boogie Party" and "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

2024-01-1702:29:25

This week Jim becomes patient zero for Last of Us, Elton watches Leave the World Behind, Darren wonders why the War of the Worlds musical is so different from the unabridged audio book, which also seems to have more cockney "AVE IT!" moments from the Martians, while Lee becomes exasperated by Good Omens 2 and nearly blows up the kitchen making the veg for a roast dinner.  After that we dive down a deep and disturbing rabbit hole as feedback reveals a cult of the airfryer, growing within the listening ranks. Before finally we head off to review this weeks film, the divisive class war satire, psychological thriller Saltburn. Welcome to 2024 - A new year and a new episode of your favourite podcast after all the others you listen to first.  This week we all look back over our christmas break, Jim joins Darren in the cult of the Air  Fryer much to Lee and Eltons dismay. But Jim does redeem himself with "Piggys In Blankets in Holes" er... yeah... Probably best not to google that. He also watches some weird chrismas films in preparation for next years season on the cast. Meanwhile Elton has tooth trouble (OUCH!) gets his arse kicked at PS5 FIFA Football and also uncovers a mystery console. Darren gives us a sofa update and has a festive christmas watch of The Mist... Yes that one... And finally Lee, crashes and burns with Covid (again), opens a Letterboxd account for the podcast and amongst the film reviews takes a detour through Scavengers Reign.... Oh dear... Then after some feedback for Fallen its on to this weeks movie.  A film that if the slow mo was removed it would be 90 mins long instead of 2 hours 30mins long.  Zack Snyders Rebel Moon. This week Elton tries not to spend money and watches Scavengers Reign, Darren physically assaults a sofa and tries to bury in a garden, while Lee quietly seeths about something (see if you can tell what it is) and loses a dog down the side of a shed. Plus we wonder what Joe Pesci meditation audio books would sound like.. Then after some Robot Cop feedback, we move on to this weeks movie... Or is it a book Lee remembers who knows... I'm just typing this so dont ask me... Anyway we review the most christmassy of movies a demonic body swap serial killer flick Fallen... As Darren enthuses about an Air fryer SCREAM! As Lee tries to digest a Ginsters "Sausage" roll. YAWN! As we try and review the tedious remake of Robocop SNORE! As we try and discuss it without mentioning the far superior 1987 original... And inevitably fail! The Platform

2023-11-2902:41:05

What can I say, this is a long episode with a lot to process... From great hopeful health news for Jim, to tap drama for Elton, Darren being excited by an air fryer and Lee getting savaged (and possibly super powers) from a rabid squirrel.  Add to that interesting feedback for last weeks episode and then its on to this weeks movie which is either a parable about greed, class, selfishness and social hierarchy or.... The physical representation of all the music of the 80s (especially Nik Kershaw)... The Netflix Spanish dystopian scifi horror The Platform... Again be warned... Its a damn long episode... And the wheels are not even remotely attached. _____ Media discussed this week: Murder at the end of the world - Disney+ Poker Face - Now TV & Amazon Prime (pay per episode) Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple+ TV) Haunting in Venice - Disney+ Fallout TV show - TBA The Riddle - Nik Kershaw The Message - Grandmaster Mel E Mell and the Furious Five _____ Music "Boogie Party" and "Farting Around" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Darren has a danger filled trip on a train to attend a talk about fantasy genre as well as watching Roald Dahl adaptations on Netflix and finally Lee completes Spider-Man 2 on the PS5 and watches the time travelling detective series Bodies on Netflix.  Then after some extensive feedback for last weeks episode, its on to this weeks review. This week Jim watches a Haunting in Venice, Eltons week is [404 FILE NOT FOUND], Darren watches Culprits and the latest movie from the MCU, Marvels. While Lee sighs heavily at Loki and David Finchers latest The Killer, as well as Tom Cruises latest attempt to give Hollywood insurance men a heart attack with his antics in Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1. Then after a bit of feedback its on to this weeks film... Which answers the question of "what do you get if you cross a naff action movie with a PG13 horror for kids with a budget thats larger that the defence budget of most nation states, while ignoring the source material you paid to own the rights of?"
