Thanks for your patience, y'all! It's been a tough coupla weeks (months, year) for everyone and we sincerely hoping you're finding ways to take care of yourself. This is an episode that we recorded in mid-March. While we intentionally skipped our February ep and are posting this one WAY late, we promise we're not going anywhere. At Flick Yeah! HQ, we've begun some production talks on how to continue bringing you fun movie content that still excites us, as creators. In the meantime, enjoy our discussion of a few dog movies and the first "new" movie we've reviewed in a while! IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM Blithe Spirit - Fun but misses the mark. THEME MOVIES Old Yeller - Why is this a classic? Sounder - Beautiful film we hadn't heard of. Highly recommend! Marley & Me - Too cheesy or just cheesy enough? Megan Leavey - Bad title, sweet film. Episode 159 - Hercules

Episode 159 - Hercules

2021-01-1901:06:04

Happy 2021! We decided on some lighter fare this month to take a break from the world crumbling around us. We watched 4 very different interpretations of the story of Hercules and WOW, what a ride. THEME MOVIES Hercules (Lou Ferrigno, 1983) - Absolutely bonkers. Worth a watch for sheer trippiness.  Hercules and the Amazon Women (Kevin Sorbo, 1994) - Rough start to what seemed like a successful TV show. Hercules (Tate Donovan/Disney, 1997) - So, so good. Despite or because of all the dumb jokes, you decide. Hercules (Dwayne Johnson, 2014) - A lot of fun! Glad they didn't take it too seriously (...or did they?) SPOILERS ABOUND! Hannah's sister Caitlin joins the podcast for our final episode of 2020! We discuss the queer "rom com" currently streaming on Hulu and then dive into the Blade Runner franchise and a couple movies it inspired. Enjoy! IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM Happiest Season - A bit of a disappointment but worth watching for the conversations it sparked! THEME MOVIES Blade Runner - Quiet and beautiful (for many people). The Fifth Element - Just a silly good time. Dark City - "I didn't hate it!" Blade Runner 2049 - I hope Ryan Gosling was wearing a step tracker. Check out the Queer Movie Night podcast! Women showed up big time for Biden in the 2020 election (particularly women of color)! In celebration of that fact, we watched 4 female-centric movies that all depressed us a bit but then pumped us way back up! Who run the world? GIRLS! Oh and we also watched a Thanksgiving-themed new release that was a bit of a dumpster fire. Happy Thanksgiving everyone? IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM Friendsgiving - Wayyyyy too much going on. You can skip this one. THEME MOVIES Set it Off - Much darker than expected but fantastic and moving. Erin Brockovich - Super holds up! Give this one a rewatch. Whale Rider - Sad and quiet but very sweet and heartwarming. Queen of Katwe - The weakest of these 4 but still pretty good! Happy October everybody! No new movie this episode and since the presidential election is just around the corner, we decided to watch a few movies related to elections and campaigns. Some helped us take our minds off of the current state of the world and others were a harsh reminder of how bad things feel sometimes. There's something for everyone! Vote vote vote. THEME MOVIES Speechless (1994) - This one did not live up to its potential. The Manchurian Candidate (2004) - What are you doing, Meryl Streep?? Napoleon Dynamite - Our thoughts on this one make us feel more out of the mainstream than the title character. The Purge: Election Year - Not scary, not particularly thrilling, but still a good time. The world lost a great talent much too soon on 8/28/20. We watched a few of his films in celebration of his life, and now we only miss him more. For discussions of 2 of his other films, check out Black Panther in episode 137 and Marshall in episode 119. THEME MOVIES 42 - So great, but we may never be able to look at Alan Tudyk the same way again. Get on Up - Turns out James Brown was a bit strange? As was this movie's timeline. Captain America: Civil War - Black Panther's debut. Some great parts (mostly involving him, Ant-Man & Spiderman) but not our favorite Marvel movie. 21 Bridges - Pretty formulaic but super enjoyable! Da 5 Bloods - Much bloodier than expected. E-mail us at flickyeahpodcast@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @flickyeahcast, like us on facebook at facebook.com/flickyeahpodcast, and subscribe/write a review on iTunes! Another month, another batch of movies! Listen in as we chat about some badass women getting revenge. First, we discuss a new release that didn't quite meet our expectations. Enjoy! IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM Babysplitters - Compelling premise, poor execution. THEME MOVIES The Quick and the Dead - How old do we think Leo was during filming? Kill Bill: Vol 1 - Urgh, it fits the theme. Fine. Chinjeolhan geumjassi (Lady Vengeance) - Hard to follow but worth a watch. The Nightingale - Hard to watch but worth a follow. Wait.. And it feels so good. Hannah has returned from her sojourn to Chicago, not that it REALLY matters right now since we can't leave our homes. But it's lovely to have her back and do some socially-distant hangs. To celebrate our reunion, we watched some movies featuring our names, with... mixed results. IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM Palm Springs - Sweet and funny but not too memorable. THEME MOVIES Anne of Green Gables (1985) - So FUCKING delightful you will die. Watch it now. Hannah and Her Sisters - Not Woody Allen's best work, and Anne hates even his best work. The Diary of Anne Frank (2009) - Worth a watch for the compelling story. Probably not the best version out there though. The Possession of Hannah Grace - So, so bad. Just no. RIP Randy. It's June 2020 and there's a lot going on. In honor of Pride month and the Black Lives Matter movement, we chose a few movies by queer black filmmakers. As usual, we kick things off with a new movie (that would have been in theaters) that you can rent on demand today. Enjoy! IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM The High Note - Annoyed that the lead is white but still a good time. THEME MOVIES Brother to Brother - Sweet, thought-provoking, and relevant. D.E.B.S. - A farcically good time! Pariah - It's all in what's not being said. The Paperboy - I wouldn't know where to start if I tried. And I tried. Episode 151 - Super Brains!

Episode 151 - Super Brains!

2020-05-2101:37:33

For this episode we decided to explore the "we only use 10% of our brains" myth by watching some cranium-expanding films. Turns out these filmmakers were only using 10% of their energy making these movies. Still some interesting stuff though, and we kicked things off with a new Netflix release that was sweet enough to almost make up for our disappointing theme movies. IN THEATERS AKA YOUR LIVING ROOM The Half of It - A charming new take on Cyrano de Bergerac; definitely worth checking out on Netflix! THEME MOVIES Charly - Maybe we need to actually read Flowers for Algernon. Senseless - SO stupid and offensive, but Anne didn't hate it for some reason.  Limitless - The best of the 4 by far but not as good as it could be. Thanks, straight white men. Lucy - Inexplicably, inexcusably bad. Why are ScarJo and Morgan Freeman in this?? E-mail us at flickyeahpodcast@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @flickyeahcast, like us on facebook at facebook.com/flickyeahpodcast, and subscribe/write a review on iTunes! Episode 150 - Deja Gold

Episode 150 - Deja Gold

2020-04-1601:25:01

For this milestone episode, we revisit an early episode! We watched all the same movies from episode 50 and discuss our thoughts without listening to our reviews from 5 years ago. Listen in to see if anything has changed (particularly since Hannah has a terrible memory)! THEME MOVIES Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) - Psst. Have you heard about this movie? It's good. The Gold Rush - We love Charlie Chaplin! The Golden Child - Great if you like your Eddie Murphy with a side of 'isms... The Golden Bowl - We. Can't. Even. Fool's Gold - Not as bad as Hannah remembers. E-mail us at flickyeahpodcast@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @flickyeahcast, like us on facebook at facebook.com/flickyeahpodcast, and subscribe/write a review on iTunes! Well folks, the world is falling apart. We did not plan ahead to be topical, but our theme still turned out to be surprisingly fitting for these crazy times. Use your newly increased couch time to watch these movies and see what we mean! Stay safe out there. IN THEATERS Emma - Always fun to see this story, and this was a charming if not overly original adaptation. Check out episode 119 for our thoughts on some other versions! THEME MOVIES Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Why though? E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - Culturally nostalgic. Mars Attacks! - Ack! Ack! Ack! ("We come in peace! LOL JK.") Signs - The corn is scarier than the aliens. E-mail us at flickyeahpodcast@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @flickyeahcast, like us on facebook at facebook.com/flickyeahpodcast, and subscribe/write a review on iTunes! Episode 148 - Good as Hell

Episode 148 - Good as Hell

2020-02-1501:18:02

We skipped the Oscars this year and decided to watch the NAACP best picture noms instead. Listen to our thoughts and then check out the show on BET February 22nd! OUTSTANDING MOTION PICTURE Dolemite is My Name - Fun and heart-warming. Harriet - A story worth telling. Just Mercy - Solid acting across the board. Queen & Slim - Check out episode 147 for our in-depth review. Us - Meh. OTHER NOMS MENTIONED Black and Blue - Gah. You can skip this one. Little - It's Big but, ya know, the other way! Luce - It's on Hulu if anyone wants to watch it and tell Hannah what the hell it was about! The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind - Really sweet. Worth a watch.
Our second mini episode this month, all that was salvageable from our episode on movies about fictional bands. Luckily the best movie was the one that survived! We discuss The Commitments, a super lovely Irish film from 1991. Welcome to a new decade! We started it off with some extremely frustrating technical difficulties. Instead of re-recording an entire episode, we are posting 2 mini episodes this month! We saw Underwater in theaters, which was somewhat fun but very unoriginal. Enjoy our discussion! E-mail us at flickyeahpodcast@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @flickyeahcast, like us on facebook at facebook.com/flickyeahpodcast, and subscribe/write a review on iTunes! Happy December, listeners! This episode, we saw the intense but amazing Queen & Slim. We highly recommend it! Then we watched a bunch of new Netflix original holiday movies. Some were better than others. All gave us plenty to say. Enjoy! IN THEATERS Queen & Slim - Beautiful in so many ways. THEME MOVIES Holiday Rush - Holiday rush me outta here, am I right? Klaus - So sweet! Add it to your holiday rotation! The Knight Before Christmas - Delivers exactly what it promises. Let it Snow - Cute but we might be too old. Welcome back! This month we revisited a favorite franchise, then we finally checked a movie off our list that we've been talking about doing for ages, Anne got to rewatch a high school classic that did NOT hold up for her, we discovered the source of a beloved Disney voice, and we explored some MATURE themes. We tied it all together under the subject of cheerleaders. Mostly. IN THEATERS Terminator: Dark Fate - Fun and action-packed but not very original. THEME MOVIES But I'm a Cheerleader - A surprising, sweet, and colorful comedy. Bring It On - Let's see a remake starring the Clovers, please. Gotta Kick It Up! - What constitutes cheerleading? (And for that matter, screenwriting?) Poms - Spent all their energy on a great trailer, then had none left for anything else. Happy Halloween, listeners! For this month's episode we got in the spooky spirit and watched a few not-too-scary teen thrillers. But first we kick things off with Hollywood's latest take on a man falling in love with his cell phone. Enjoy! IN THEATERS Jexi - Hannah might be expecting too much out of this one. THEME MOVIES Scream - "Behind you, Jamie!" I Know What You Did Last Summer - And it's concerning. The Faculty - An all-around good time at the movies. Teaching Mrs. Tingle - Where do we even start? Episode 144 - I'm On A Boat

Episode 144 - I'm On A Boat

2019-09-1601:32:27

No new movies caught our eye in early September so we have 5 theme movies for you this month! We were feeling nautical so we picked 5 movies about the ocean and the sea-faring vessels that traverse it. Able seamen a-plenty. THEME MOVIES Dead Calm - Baby Nicole Kidman and Billy Zane show us their butts. And I guess some other stuff happens.  Titanic - A stunning achievement. Hannah awards it Flick Yeah's first perfect 10! The Perfect Storm - Not as great as Anne remembered but still very gripping. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World - A big movie full of small moments.  Moana - The only disappointment here is Hannah. E-mail us at flickyeahpodcast@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @flickyeahcast, like us on facebook at facebook.com/flickyeahpodcast, and subscribe/write a review on iTunes! Intro music by Andre Kennedy. Like him on facebook and check him out on SoundCloud! Peace, love, and movies.
We miss Robin Williams so this month we decided to dedicate an entire episode to him. But first (and a little begrudgingly), we kick things off with Tarantino's latest flick. Enjoy! IN THEATERS Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - If you don't know your American history from the 1960s, we suggest you read up before seeing this one. THEME MOVIES Good Morning, Vietnam - Take a drink every time a character says the title of the movie. Awakenings - So encephalitis is crazy. Aladdin - Worthy of being thought of as a Disney classic? What Dreams May Come - Interesting ideas but kind of a hot mess. E-mail us at flickyeahpodcast@gmail.com, follow us on Twitter and Instagram @flickyeahcast, like us on facebook at facebook.com/flickyeahpodcast, and subscribe/write a review on iTunes!
