Description

There's something to love about every movie. Yes, even that one. At I Like To Movie Movie, we celebrate movies of all genres, with the only criteria being that it's worth talking about. Horror, action, sci-fi, drama, romance, classics, bombs, franchises, musicals, epics, shorts, and hardcore oddities -- it's all here. Listen as we discuss our favorites, interview filmmakers, and generally have a good time. It might get weird. Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moviemoviecast/support

Megan has never seen a MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movie. Dan and Stephen are making her watch ALL OF THEM. That’s right, as the final (?) film in the series slowly approaches, we will be going through the ultimate preparatory task. It sounds impossible, but we’ll succeed, just like Ethan Hunt and the IMF gang! We have plenty of time, so this won’t be a back-to-back-to-back project, but expect plenty of M:I talk over the coming year or so. What do the individual filmmakers bring to the table? What defines the series? What elements are purged with each new entry? Would Ethan beat John Wick in a fight to the death? We go deep, and we come out of it with an abiding love for Luther, everyone’s favorite hacker. We’ll be taking a short season break after this episode, but we will be back in a few weeks (Hot Property will remain unaffected). 251 - DUNE: PART TWO

2024-03-2401:45:06

On this week’s episode of I LIKE TO MOVIE MOVIE, we leave the lush rainforests of Caladan for the unforgiving desert climate of Arrakis once again to discuss part two of Denis Villeneuve’s epic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s “unadaptable” classic. Stephen has questions. Dan has (some) answers. Gurney has a song. And speaking of songs, we close out the episode with some of our favorite musicians-turned-actors, in honor of the great Zendaya. Follow I LIKE TO MOVIE MOVIE on Twitter and Instagram @moviemoviecast, and stayed tuned to ScullyVision.com for updates. We’ll be back in two weeks with part one of our biggest project yet. Yes, we’ll be double dipping and rehashing…but we’ll also be expanding our scope. It sounds like an impossible mission, but with the right team we’ll get it done… --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moviemoviecast/support
People of Earth! Apologies for the slight delay, but we were tied up watching the Oscars last night. And since you fellow degenerates were probably rushing to cram every damn movie in your brain before the big night, we decided not to do a classic episode, lest you be saddled with boring homework. Instead, we decided to chillax and discuss what we’ve been watching lately. Maybe you’ve seen the same stuff. Maybe you’ll come out of this with some new recommendations. Maybe you’ll die midway through the episode and whatever you watched most recently is the last movie you’ll ever see. What I’m saying is that life is good and movies are fun to watch. Ya dig? Thank you, you distinguished motherfucker. Follow I LIKE TO MOVIE MOVIE on Instagram and Twitter @moviemoviecast, and be sure to stay tuned to ScullyVision.com for plenty of fun, and no boring thinkpieces on how mad I am about some inane shit that happened in the world of make believe. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/moviemoviecast/support

249 - OSCARS MAYHEM, BABY!

2024-02-2501:32:59

On Sunday, March 10th the Oscars are back for the 96th time! You’d think Hollywood would be tired of itself by now, but nope. The show must go on! To get ready for Tinseltown’s biggest night, we go through each category to determine what should win, what will win, and how to pronounce NYAD without actually watching the movie. Follow I LIKE TO MOVIE MOVIE on Twitter and Instagram @moviemoviecast. Stay tuned to ScullyVision.com for more fun! 248 - ACTION JACKSON

2024-02-1201:35:35

On February 1st we lost a true god amongst men: Carl Weathers. He fought Rocky, Predator, Shooter McGavin, and a host of people who were much too happy to throw away their food. To celebrate his life we’re covering ACTION JACKSON, the film that aimed to make Weathers a leading man by putting him up against Coach himself: Craig T. Nelson. This explosive film features fully on fire stuntmen, dummy work, fully on fire dummy work, Robert Davi, and a one-liner that makes absolutely no sense. In the back half we count down our favorite roles from athletes who made the transition to Hollywood! Happy Holidays from I LIKE TO MOVIE MOVIE! As is tradition, we like to fill December with holiday cheer by focusing on atypical seasonal cinema. This year’s tasty treat is a deep dive into Shane Black’s festive directorial debut, KISS KISS BANG BANG. We talk about the career resuscitation of Robert Downey Jr., the difficulties of taking a noir style and updating it with contemporary flair, and the majesty that is the one and only Gay Perry. In the back half we count down some of our favorite holiday films. Follow the show on Instagram and Twitter @moviemoviecast, and check back to ScullyVision.com for updates on all the exciting shit we have coming in the new year. And remember: if it’s a Christmas movie to you, then it’s a Christmas movie. If it’s not a Christmas movie to you, then it’s not a Christmas movie. No other criteria matters. Have a safe and sexy holiday, and we’ll see you in two weeks with our Best Movie Movies of 2023 countdown. Whenever David Fincher releases a new movie it’s always cause for celebration. Add to that this week’s Thanksgiving holiday and we here at I LIKE TO MOVIE MOVIE are feeling quite a bit of gratitude! Thanksgiving dinner was a beast, but we hope you saved room for dessert. So pop open that top button, rub your belly, and enjoy our deep dive into Fincher’s atypical and divisive thriller. We didn’t have to split the episode in half because of stupid Zoom! Go us! Stick around after our discussion for a countdown of all the things we’re thankful for in the world of film. 243 - Doctor Sleep

2023-11-1201:14:27

Mike Flanagan did the impossible when he made DOCTOR SLEEP: successfully sequelizing an untouchable classic AND adapting a novel that itself is very much *not* a sequel to said classic. Join us as we close out our seasonally spooky programming by forcing Stephen to watch another horror movie (he’ll watch anything if it has Rebecca Ferguson in it — maybe one day he’ll watch THE SNOWMAN lolololol) and discussing just what it is that makes this cozy epic so great. Stay tuned after the discussion for a rapid fire list of sequels that are as good as their predecessor. Every fall the City of Brotherly Love is host to the Philadelphia Film Festival, a ten day celebration of all things cinema. This year, having only just recovered from Fantastic Fest, I did my best to see as many films as humanly possible. It hurt, but it was that good kind of hurt that you get after going to the gym. Tune in for a rundown of some of the best films from #PFF32. A huge thank you to the Philadelphia Film Society (filmadelphia.org) for putting on such a great event. And thank you for the food. I know I ate more than my fair share of sliders at the closing night party. More coverage can be found at ScullyVision.com! Please follow I Like to Movie Movie on Instagram and Twitter @moviemoviecast. Happy Halloween from I Like to Movie Movie! This year’s seasonal treat marks the first time in Movie Movie history that we’re revisiting a movie that we’ve already covered. Longtime fans will remember that our very first episode was a discussion of Stanley Kubrick’s terrifying masterwork, THE SHINING! Things are a bit different in the House of Movie Movie these days, but one thing remains the same: One of our hosts is a horror nut, and the other…not so much. Can Dan repeat the magic of converting someone into a horror junkie? Will Stephen find a way to enjoy being scared? Tune in to find out! We discuss the craft, thematic structure, and effectiveness of one of the loosest-but-most-successful Stephen King adaptations while also integrating the ideas put forth in Rodney Ascher’s atypical documentary, ROOM 237. Come back in two weeks for coverage from the upcoming Philadelphia Film Festival (filmadelphia.org) and then again two weeks later for our conclusion of this series, in which we’ll be discussing Mike Flanagan’s impossible sequel, DOCTOR SLEEP. As always, please leave us a review wherever you listen, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter @moviemoviecast. This year I was super lucky to be able to attend Fantastic Fest 2023 in-person in beautiful, sweltering hot, Austin, Texas! It was an incredibly good time, filled to bursting with beer, barbecue, electric scooters, and top-notch genre film! In today’s very special episode I go over some of my favorites of the fest: V/H/S/85, EILEEN, DOGMAN, RIVER, THE LAST STOP IN YUMA COUNTY, and STRANGE DARLING. Catch up with the rest of my coverage at ScullyVision.com, and check out the festival itself at FantasticFest.com. I LIKE TO MOVIE MOVIE will be back on 10/15 for our very first redux episode. Yep, we’re re-doing THE SHINING! Stay tuned to @moviemoviecast to be first in line when the Halloween special drops! POPEYE’S HERE!!!!! In celebration of the life and work of the recently departed William Friedkin, we dig into the movie that netted him a Best Director Oscar and also took home the grand prize of Best Picture: 1971’s THE FRENCH CONNECTION! We discuss the character of Popeye Doyle, Friedkin’s clever ways of subverting copaganda, and examine the impact that his filmmaking style has on modern day cinema. After our discussion we count down some of our favorite Best Picture winners (I left ROCKY and THE GODFATHER off my list because what more can be said??). 2023-08-2201:13:53

Stephen was finally able to get a ticket for BARBIE, and he was moved to tears. Dan remains mixed on the film, but by the end of the episode he’s ready to give it another go. All that matters is that people are coming back to the movies in a BIG way and we have BARBIE to thank! We discuss what worked (Issa Rae), what didn’t work (John Cena), and how hard it is to do a split, then we countdown some of our favorite movies about/based on/featuring toys! 239 - OPPENHEIMER

2023-08-0601:14:35

The original intention was to do a BARBENHEIMER episode, but due to the rampant popularity of BARBIE (yay!) Stephen was unable to procure a ticket in time. No matter, as he was indeed able to see OPPENHEIMER, which is such a densely packed epic that it’s worthy of its own full episode. We get into the filmmaking, themes, and historical relevance of Christopher Nolan’s atypical biopic, and then we count down our favorite historical non-fiction movies. Before Oppenheimer and Barbie knock Thomas Cruise Mapother IV out of the multiplex, we wanted to cover one of his most iconic and well-respected films, A Few Good Men. Rob Reiner’s 1992 classic is one that both Dan and Stephen have had on their shame lists for way too long. Welp, not anymore, muchacho! We discuss Rob Reiner’s incredible run of directorial hits, Tom Cruise’s similarities to Chandler Bing, the legal accuracy of the script, and just how strange Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon look with military haircuts. Even amidst a sea of powerhouse dudes, it’s ultimately Demi Moore who steals the show! After our discussion we count down our favorite movie lines that we use regularly in real life. Dan grew up watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Stephen grew up watching The Empire Strikes Back. As such, they each have a preference when it comes to iconic characters played everyone’s favorite licensed pilot, Harrison Ford. In honor of the upcoming release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, we’re ripping off the concept another podcast (which shall not be named) and doing battle. Who will emerge victorious???
