The call of Jesus is always more radical than we would like to think. One of His calls throughout the Gospels is to take care of the poor. Keith Giles felt God leading him to serve those in need by starting a house church that gave 100 percent of its offerings to them. For 11 years, Keith has been working in house churches. On this episode, Keith shares about the beauty and chaos that comes with house churches. He also talks about realizing full-time ministry can happen in motels and grocery stores, not just church buildings. During the show, he gives many stories of God’s work with those in need. Keith reminds us that Jesus has called us to love our neighbor, especially the poor.Love Never Fails International: https://engagingmissions.com/loveWho is your favorite Bible character and why? https://www.facebook.com/engagingmissions/posts/2405466479535089What We Talked About00:24- Episode Introduction01:26 - Our Sponsor: Love Never Fails International02:34 - Welcoming Keith Giles03:12 - Mutual connections03:35 - From vocational ministry to a house church05:58 - A call to care for the poor11:15 - How to bring life to those in need14:48 - Seeing who the offering goes to17:01 - The great reversal19:23 - An experience of transformation22:54 - What is required to partner with the poor?24:57 - Does it ever get messy?26:34 - How do you keep Jesus at the center?32:01 - Bringing reconciliation of differences34:20 - Separating relationship with people38:18 - A place to start reading39:22 - How can we best pray for you?41:16 - Final thoughts42:00 - Episode Summary43:41 - BonusResources & Contact InfoJesus Untangled: https://amzn.to/31DWZK5Jesus Unveiled: https://amzn.to/33sb6npWebsite: http://KeithGiles.comFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/keithagilesTwitter: @KeithGilesLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/keithgiles-writer/Other: http://HereticHappyHour.comAdditional LinksFrom the Forefront: http://fromtheforefront.comTop Tier Audio: https://toptieraudio.comShow LinksFacebook: @engagingmissionsMessenger: @engagingmissionsTwitter: @engagingmissionLeave a VoicemailBecome a PatronListen for FreeDisclosure of Material Connection: Some of the links in the post above are...

Many people think they are Christian but have never heard the Gospel. Dean Inserra joins the show to talk about “cultural Christianity” and how to reach these people with Jesus. In his new book, The Unsaved Christian, he talks about different forms of unsaved Christianity. These people are not just “baby Christians,” but of a separate religion all together. We have to make sure that we’re not advocating for a morality. We’re advocating for a worship, really, for a following of Christ. When looking at history, it seems like church movements have a cycle of rising and falling. Steve Addison joins the show to talk about his new book called The Rise and Fall of Movements and how God works in that cycle. He speaks on how believers who value the Great Commission can keep their eyes on Jesus, His word, Spirit, and mission. As some ministries reach a place of decline, we can remember that God is always raising up new movements. He keeps working to draw us back to Him. The important thing is for us to seek God and walk in obedience to Him.Buy on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2IudTCQ (affiliate)What We Talked About00:23 - Show updates01:21 - Thanks to our sponsors: Megavoice02:25 - Introduction02:54 - Why this book and why now?03:51 - Who is this book for?04:42 - Ministries and movements06:26 - An overview of the stages of movements08:51 - What stage is the most concerning?11:12 - Renewal is always uncomfortable13:54 - How can we best prepare for submission?16:42 - Encouraging reflections on movements19:50 - Examples of word, Spirit, and mission22:49 - Looking at the Church around the world25:23 - How has the process changed you?27:13 - Thoughts for those in ministry28:22 - Where can people get the book?28:50 - How can we best pray for you?30:01 - Closing thoughtsResources & Contact InfoThe Rise and Fall of Movements: A Roadmap for Leaders (affiliate)Movements.netShow LinksFacebook: @engagingmissionsMessenger: @engagingmissionsTwitter: @engagingmissionLeave a VoicemailBecome a PatronListen for FreeDisclosure of Material Connection: Some of the links in the post above are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission. Learning to love others long-term is a big part of missions and ministry. Sometimes that love can be easier said than done. In this week’s episode, Ann Hinrichs joins us again to talk about her new book, Just One, which is about her long friendship with a man in Belize. Through their friendship, Ann learned more about intercultural ministry and her friend came to know Jesus.Ann also shares the importance of depending on God. Focusing on obedience is better than looking for results. Throughout the episode, she reminds us of God’s guidance and steadfast love. We look more like Him when we are willing to love another person for as long as the Lord leads.Check out Our Sponsor: http://megavoice.com/engagingmissionsAnn's Book (affiliate): https://amzn.to/2Vjve5MWhat We Talked About00:23 - Episode summary02:21 - Why did you write your book?05:11 - Spending time in uncomfortable places06:00 - From the inside-out struggle08:03 - Creating a context for the story11:19 - How has God worked perseverance in you?12:42 - Choosing what to include in the book16:10 - Letting go of cultural bents17:39 - The impact of the first trip21:33 - One piece in a great puzzle23:11 - Remaining dependent on the Lord26:03 - When the Lord redirects ideas27:28 - How would you encourage others to move forward?30:10 - Additional resources for short-term teams31:22 - How can we best pray for you?32:32 - Closing thoughtsResources & Contact InfoJust One: A True Story of Unlikely Friendship and Short-Term MissionsAnn's Website with Discussion Tools and ResourcesShow LinksFacebook: @engagingmissionsMessenger: @engagingmissionsTwitter: @engagingmissionLeave a VoicemailBecome a PatronListen for FreeDisclosure of Material Connection: Some of the links in the post above are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission. I love this podcast. As someone who has served on the mission field (with OM Ships) for 6 years and pastored for 10+ years, I was looking just for this - stories of what God is doing around the world. I searched in my podcast app "missionary stories" and this was the first hit. This podcast, for me, is like a shot of adrenalin, an encouragement and a reminder of the big picture - salvation of souls and the glory of God.
