Do you still remember when it was just Pokemon Red and Blue for the Gameboy? That first run through Pallet Town, and oh how sweet it was to beat the Elite Four and finally wipe that smug smile off of Gary Oak’s face (or whatever you ended up naming him).
Now there are so many Pokemon games that it’s hard to keep track, especially as a 30-something year old who still reminisces about the simpler days of only 150 Pokemon (OK, 151 if you include Mew).
I don’t think kids nowadays really know what it was like to find the glitched MissingNo in the original Pokemon. It was splendid, getting all those Rare Candies to level up all your Pokemon, even though we all knew that Pokemon got better stats if you actually trained them by battling.
The only Pokemon game I really ever got into after the Gameboy versions was Pokemon Snap. I never had an N64 growing up, but I had a friend who had it (he was a self-proclaimed “Pokemon Master”), and we would hang out at his house to take pictures of all the random Pokemon. I never really understood why I liked that game, but it was just fun and silly and simple.
Fast forward to the present, and there is so much Pokemon… stuff in the world. Anime, games, toys, fan fiction, stuffed animals, almost anything you can think of. Pokemon Go was so awesome when it came out in 2016, and there are still tons of people that play.
