Limited scope representation: I have this type of representation and my attorney's fee is $425 hr. and a retainer of $2500 but I am afraid of using her services on matters other than her review of a proposed marital settlement agreement not yet drafted. I initially retained an attorney to respond to the petition and represent me but all he did was write a letter of proposal that took 6 months to write at the cost of $14,000 in legal fees. I fired him and retained an attorney on a limited scope and tried Mediation. Unfortubately my husband used the safe place of mediation to state his position which was completely different from what we had already agreed to. The changes of what was previously discussed was not made known to me before our first mediation meeting. It was a waste of money and time and further eroded my trust in the process.
what happens when divorce papers have been filed with the court but no agreements have been reached by the parties? does the court step in to inquire why the case after a year has not been settled?
