Hello Everyone, and welcome to this special episode of The Discourse Project. Today, my guest is my good friend, Tom Baker.
This is a special episode because Tom and I just wrapped up a week in Washington DC for Student Veterans of America's Leadership Institute where we joined 120 other student leaders from around the country to develop our core values and hone our leadership skills.
In this episode, we talk about our time in the institute, some of the topics and lessons that we discussed while we were there, as well as what Tom has planned for the future.
One of the things we focused on throughout this week was trying to figure out what each of our core values are, how they were introduced to our lives, and how they fit into the kind of person and leader we want to be. So, what are your core values? Leave them in a comment below.
I hope that you enjoy the episode, and until next time, Aloha 'oe.
Hello Everyone, and welcome to the second episode of The Discourse Project. At the end of the episode, we mentioned that this episode would be covering the Veterans Empowerment Act with my good friend and fellow San Diego Mesa College alum, Tom Baker. However, we are both going to be in Washington DC together next week for Student Veterans of America's Leadership Institute so we decided to just record a new episode while we are there to give a more up to date conversation about what is going on in the veteran space.
Fortunately, I was able to have on my friend and fellow CAUSE alum, Benjamin Tran, to talk about advocating for the communities we care about through participation in various levels of politics.
This episode of The Discourse Project focuses the conversation on the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement and the Mauna Kea Protest and how music has played an essential role within both topics.
In the episode I reference a lot of videos that I found interesting while doing research for this episode. Instead of leaving a link for each, I have compiled them into a playlist on Youtube for your convenience:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTLbIycVEXlQmgZSnvyjq6tmL4LzoeERo
I hope that you enjoyed this episode, and please leave a comment on our Facebook page if you found anything in particular interesting, have a question, or want to contribute something to the continuation of this conversation.
