The Hounds Of Horror

Jacob Inman joins Chris and Gabe yet again and if he keeps hanging around the studio we're going to have to start charging him rent. The trio talk about Wes Craven's 1997 film Scream 2! Two years after the terrifying events that occurred in Woodsboro, Sidney is now attending Windsor College in Cincinnati, and Gale Weathers’ best selling book on Sidney’s life has now been made into a major motion picture. When two college students are killed in a theatre while watching the new film ‘Stab’, Sidney knows deep down that history is repeating itself.

The Hounds are once again joined by writer/director Jacob Inman to talk about his favorite horror film of all time, Wes Craven's Scream! Set in a fictional California suburb, a horror movie-obsessed killer known as Ghostface begins killing off teenagers, and as the body count begins rising, one girl and her friends find themselves contemplating the ‘rules’ of horror films as they find themselves living in a real-life one. DISCLAIMER: While we typically operate under the assumption that you've seen the film before listening, spoilers are always on the table. However, this one also features spoilers for other films in the Scream series, most notably Scream 2, 3 and 5.

We also go on side tangents about every other video game that is mentioned and we just don't shut up.

The Hounds of Horror discuss Fresh (2022) directed by Mimi Cave and written by Lauryn Kahn. Frustrated by scrolling dating apps only to end up on lame, tedious dates, Noa takes a chance by giving her number to the awkwardly charming Steve after a produce-section meet-cute at the grocery store. He eats her ass and they live happily-ever-after.

Chris and Gabe sit down to talk about the Alex Garland directed 2022 A24 film Men. Jessie Buckley (Fargo, I'm Thinking Of Ending Things) plays Harper, who in the aftermath of a personal tragedy, retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to find a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears. It's a film that begs the ultimate question, "Why are men?"

It's a pretty horny episode as Chris and Gabe talk about X, the 2022 Ti West directed Slasher film. This movie has it all. Mia Goth in dual roles! alligators! Slutty, murderous grandmas! Set in 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives.

The Hounds have a long talk about one of the best horror films of this year, The Black Phone. In the film, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, the boy discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims, who begin to aid him in his quest to escape. We also spend a little bit longer than usual on this weeks mail call segment because you people keep hitting us with the best questions!

Chris and Gabe have a ton of fun gushing over their favorite horror movie of all time, Wes Cravens "A Nightmare On Elm Street", the film that kicked off the only franchise where Johnny Depp is murdered twice. Teenagers in a small town are getting killed left and right and no one knows why. Sweet, innocent Nancy traces the cause to child murderer Freddy Krueger, who was burned alive by angry parents many years before. Krueger has now come back in the dreams of his killers’ children, claiming their lives as his revenge. Now it's up to Nancy to stop him.

Chris and Gabe talk about the 2019 directorial debut from Travis Stevens, Girl on The Third Floor. CM Punk plays a scumbag trying to be a family man with plans to renovate a rundown house with a sordid history for his growing family, only to learn that the house has other plans. Plans that involve a lot of cum.

Hell holds no surprises for Chris and Gabe as they discuss the 1971 lost masterpiece The Devils. Directed by Ken Russell, The Devils is a dramatized historical account of the rise and fall of Urbain Grandier, a 17th-century Roman Catholic priest accused of witchcraft following alleged demonic possessions of sexually repressed nuns. Chris and Gabe also dish the dirt on their favorite horror television shows and Gabe namedrops a celebrity he's hung out with yet again.

Chris and Gabe are joined by guest Owen Townsend, a disgraced political campaign organizer and fan of movies, to talk about the 2006 troma film "Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead". We've really raised the bar with this one, opting to finally review and discuss a true cinematic masterpiece. Gabe also ranks his five favorite fast food restaurants, not that you asked him to. This is the true story, of seven strangers, picked to live in a house, work together, and have their lives taped. Chris and Gabe talk about the 1985 Italian splatter film Demons, where group of random people is invited to a screening of a mysterious movie, only to find themselves trapped in the theater with ravenous demons. We also answer questions from our listeners. Recorded a year ago, some aspects of this recording are a bit dated as it relates to our mailbag segment and the topic of the covid pandemic, but just consider that portion a time capsule for the year 2021 I guess, I don't know.

Chris and Gabe talk about The Thing for 69 very nice minutes. Released in 1982, the film was initially panned by critics (who were very wrong, by the way) but eventually became a cult classic that was reevaluated as the masterpiece it rightfully is. The Hounds also answer questions from our listeners in our first ever mail bag segment.

Finally, something for the children! The Hounds are joined by author Kim Vodicka to discuss the 2019 Ted Bundy biopic "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile." Chris is drunk! Gabe likes Blue Cheese! They are both very fond of Keller's flea market in Savannah, GA! Most importantly, they both have a lot to say about James Woods but we're not sure he wants to hear this. In this episode, the Hounds sound off on David Cronenberg's 1983 cult classic, Videodrome. This episode was recorded quite some time ago, but due to a technical hiccup and a drunken Chris' slurred speech, we sat on it a bit. But now, with the power of editing, this magical episode is finally at hand.

Happy Friday The 13th! On this episode, we wrap up our Friday the 13th marathon (for now) with arguably the best in the entire series, Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter! Chris and Gabe are once again joined by Jacob Inman and boy do we ever have a lot to say about this one. As a group of co-eds arrive for their vacation, Jason continues his killing spree. Incredibly enough, between these two films, Jason loses his hair and gains about 20 pounds. The Hounds continue their marathon of the Friday The 13th films with the fan favorite 2nd installment! It's been 5 years since the events of the first film and now Jason is back from the dead to inherit the family business. Have a listen as Gabe and Chris spend entirely too much time attempting to fill continuity gaps and ask the hard questions this movie didn't care to answer 40 years ago.
