We all play them , we all enjoy them , and no matter how old you are , we all love them. Hi everyone , Ali is here and welcome back to another episode of Italkenglish podcast and as you can see from the title of today’s episode , we’re gonna talk about video games. And here with me is a special friend , Carla . what’s up Carla ?- Hi Ali. Thank you so much. How about you ?- I’m fine as well. Thank you too. So Carla , You like videogames , right ?- Of course I do. Video games are so exciting.- And how often do you play videogames Carla ?- Well honestly , three times a week. I prefer to use my freetime for video games , but not always.- Well actually video games are so exciting and almost all the teenagers , spend most of their time playing videogames of some sort. Do you think it has an impact on their health or even their education Carla ?- You know, it depends. I mean if we search this question we may find some evidences which show that gaming has a lot of negative effects including addiction, depression or even aggression. About the health problems , I have to say that the most cited included visual, muscular-skeletal, obesity and seizures , and about their education we can estimate that the children who constantly play video games may perform poorly in school and these video games may have a negative impact on their grades but in my opinion these evidences do no mean that we have to stop playing video games, they help us in order to control the playing time by restricting and planning.- Well that’s really interesting Carla , But people usually recognize videogames as it is today and they don’t know about its history. Before we get into the history of videogames ….. , there are some words that might be a little confusing. Do you mind explaining them ?- Not at all. So let’s dive in.Fancy: Being interesting or fantasy.Simulation: The production of a computer model of something, especially for the purpose of study.Example: The method was tested by computer simulations.Mainstream: The ideas, attitudes or activities that are shared by most people and regarded as normal.Example: Here in iran , the mainstream music is pop music.Flagship: The best or most important thing owned or producedby a particular organization.Example: This machine is the flagship in our range of computers.Polygon: A flat shape with three or more straight sides.Example: Triangles and squares are polygons.Blockbuster: A book or film that is very successful.Example: A blockbuster movie/ novelEnhanced: Better than before.Example: We continue to create new and enhanced versions ofour products.- So Carla , can we say that this podcast enhances our English Skills ?- Oh no Ali. It’s better to say “This podcast improves our English skills”Ancestor: A person related to you who lived a long time ago.Example: There were portraits of his ancestors on the wall of theroom.Handheld: Handheld object has been designed so that it can beheld and used easily with one or two hands.Example: A handheld device.- So Carla , we have an idiom too and it’s “ Tip of the Iceberg “ . so what is it ?- It means a small part of something.-That’s great Carla. So let’s get into the main topic of our podcast. Shall we ?- Of course , let’s go.iTalkEnglish Academy is the sponsor of this podcast, follo us on instagram: italkenglish.irVideogames were not as fancy as they are today. It took years for videogames to get to where they are today. They go as far back as the early 50s. but back then , videogames were used for simulations. It was in the 80s when videogames became mainstream. The very first popular videogames like Pong! Sold over thousands of arcade machines. Hence , Videogames started to become a big industry. But early videogames were just lines and polygons. The competition between companies caused videogames to evolve into what we see today. Many great games were released in the 80s and Super Mario was one of them. In fact , it is considered as one the bestselling games of all time. And then Home Consoles were introduced and everyone wanted one at their home. The gaming industry was all about 2D games and companies like Nintendo and Sega were the flagships. But not for so long. On December 1994 , Sony Entertainment released the very first 3D home console , Sony Playstation. This was the 5th generation of consoles and the gaming experience was taken to another level. Sony sold millions of units and developers could create more realistic games. Blockbuster games like Tekken and Crash Bandicoot were only the tip of the iceberg. 6th generation of consoles were introduced by 2000 and Microsoft became Sony’s main rival. Alongside Sony’s Successful Playstation 2 , Xbox entered the scene and took things even further. Most of the games were story driven but now players could experience online gaming with Xbox’s new multiplayer feature.Online gaming was a big deal. Not only players could compete with each other , they could communicate with each other too. Years later , successors of these consoles started a new era. 7th and 8th generation consoles had amazing graphics and thanks to newly enhanced graphical engines , you couldn’t even compare the new games to their ancestors.Video Games are a million dollar industry now. Companies and developers hold competitions and tournaments with big prizes. Some games have directors for their story and they even cast Hollywood stars to act in the game. Some even use video games as a method in certain medical situations , whereas certain games help people physically and mentally.Throughout the evolution of this industry , handheld consoles were introduced too. But there’s no need to buy a console to play games. Because you can download so many games on your mobile phone to play.Video Games came from a long way to get where they are right now and as we are talking , millions of people are playing them. Some doctors are worried because they say spending a lot of time playing video games can lead to physical and mental problems. However , scientifically it is not proven.-        Well Ali , what is your favorite video game ?-        Well honestly I started playing video games with PlayStation 1 and I really had so much fun with games like Tekken and Crash Bandicoot. What about you guys ?share your favorite video games with us in the comments and subscribe to our channel on Castbox , Italkenglish and ….-        Oh Ali stop it. Come on Let’s go. Game over-        I guess that’s all for today guys so until the next time , goodbye-        Bye guys Tellers: Ali Fathi, Carla SargizEditor and Supervisor: Mohammad Hadi GhaneSponsor: www.italkenglish.ir

Mack + Hello everyone welcome back to Italk English Podcast I’m Sara and here with me today is …- Hi I’m Amir and today we’re going to (gonna) talk about dogs!!!+ But first and foremost I think that maybe in the story there can be some words which are a bit hard, so if you agree with me we can share the meanings of these words to make the understanding of the story easier. Do you agree with me? - Sure I do. Set up = to begin business Misjudge = to be mistaken in judgment Beloved = lovely pet, dear to heart Evidence = proof, to prove something Ashamed = feeling guilty Unburden = to feel free from responsibility of guilty - Okay Sara those were words now let’s go through expressions! Once upon a time = basically when we want to (wanna) start a story we use once upon a time that means a day in the past. The deal is greater than that = the situation is worse than you think. + Let’s start the story about our famous bulldog on Mack trucks, okay Amir? - Okay Sara let’s go!“Italk English Academy is the sponsor of this podcast; follow us on Instagram @italkenglish.ir “+ I’m pretty sure that all of us know about dogs’ behaviors and their loyalty has been proved. Because of their interest in their owners they do everything for them like biting thieves, I think that you know that dogs are one of the most emotional animals in the world. Amir do you know any famous or special dogs with this character?- Yup I do! As I love dogs especially bulldogs I know two of them that they have starred in Tom & Jerry series, Spike and Tyke. + Once upon a time there was a man who wanted up a factory to produce trucks he did almost all the steps and had to leave the house every day to the factory. One day he left the house and his little son was alone with his dog at home and the father sure that Mack, his beloved bulldog would take care of his son very well because they loved each other.A couple of hours later when father came back to home he faced with something that made him angry…His son’s face was injured and Mack was sitting next to him. The father judged by this evidence that Mack had injured his son because of the distance; So he shot Mack into his head quickly, everybody especially animal rights activists think that this is a tragedy but the deal is greater than that… A few hours later cops found a body of a wild animal in the garden…+ Such a mystery Amir! - Yeah let’s go and see what happened next?! + A few minutes later when the father left the house, a wild animal attacked his son who was playing with Mack in the garden and hurt his son. Mack tried to protect his owner and fought with it, he could manage to kill it and took the boy into the house and the rest of the story happened… After the father found out he had misjudged and shot Mack, he felt ashamed of his action but it was too late. To unburden himself he changed the name of his factory into Mack and put a statue of a bulldog as its symbol. This was the story of Mack. - Stay tuned with Italk podcast and follow us on Instagram and Cast box app. - Goodbye + Goodbye Instagram: @italkenglish.ir         Tellers: Sara Amini - Amir Hossein AsgariSupervisor: Azin GhaneEditor: Mohammad Hadi GhaneSponsor: www.italkenglish.ir

Hello everyoneWelcome back to iTalkEnglish Pdocast.I’m Sahar and here with me today is Ali.Hey everyone, Ali is here; I hope you are all doing fine.In this episode, we are going to talk to you about an event in history that you, yes YOU probably think is illogical; but in fact is totally true. Before we get started, let’s get through some new words from the upcoming text you may need to know for a better understanding. Shall we Ali?Of course Sahar, actually there are some words in the context that might be a bit hard, I’m gonna talk about them.So let’s go.PerishWhen anything is destroyed or ruined, like people, like animals, like things, we say these things are perished.Break outBreak out is when prisoners are freed from the prison, and that’s not a good thing.Isn’t that? I think it is good!Well prisoners are sometimes not good people. They are bad guys. They supposed to be bad guys, yes.Platoon or troopWell Sahar, Platoon and Troop are exactly synonyms and it means groups or squads of soldiers in a war.CamouflageCamouflage. Disguise or cloth or set of clothes that are similar to animals, or Sahar sometimes to the environment, You see, in war people go to jungles and the camouflage is green. There’s a fashion by this Ali, isn’t that?Well you can’t say it is fashion. You use camouflage to hide from your enemies.Wow! That sounds terrible.ShoveShove means push. You push or shove a gun or pistol toward someone.Wow! It gets dangerous.GutWell gut is part of the stomach or belly.InfuriateInfuriate. When you make someone angry or mad, you infuriate him.Like what you’re doing right now with me!Well I’m not that type of person but yeah, you might say that Sahar.I’ve thought you doingMagazine. In weapons, you actually keep ammunition or explosive in the magazine. Or in fact, the weapons shoot bullets through the magazine.Wow! Another word.Gain composure.Well Composure is when you’re calm. Nothing, no stress. You gain your composure. You’re calm.I hope one day I gain it.EquivalentWhen two things are equivalent, they’re exactly like each other and the same. And the last one, which is buried.Well when someone dies, you put the body under the ground.Well that was the words. Ali , what’s next?Well let’s get into the context Sahar. Shall we?Sure. We shall. Let’s go.iTalk English Academy is the sponsor of this podcast. Follow us on Instagram: @italkenglish.irDuring WWII, when Sergeant Leonard A. Funk was confronted by 90 German soldiers, he began to laugh hysterically at the situation. Many of the enemy soldiers joined him in laughter, until Funk wiped them out with his machine gun, gunning down 21 and capturing the rest.Sergeant Leonard A. Funk was a recipient of the United States Army Medal of Honor and was one of the most decorated soldiers of the World War II. It was January of 1945. Funk’s company was sent to Belgium to contain a German breakout. The company had to march in heavy snow for about 15 miles. The executive perished on the road and Funk took over the command. There were not many infantrymen to hold against the Germans, so Funk decided to hire people from the company office. Most of the new hires were desk clerks! With a platoon of 30 clerks, Funk was able to capture 30 Germans. Another team had captured 50 Germans, and prisoners from both the teams were put in the yard of a house. Four US soldiers were left to guard them, and Funk returned to fight. In the meantime, a German patrol came by and fooled the four guards by wearing camouflage capes similar to the American troops. They freed the prisoners. Funk had no idea about this and came back to check on the prisoners. As soon as he walked into the yard, a German officer shoved a pistol into Funk’s gut. Funk took everyone by surprise by starting to laugh out loud. The story goes that the more he laughed the angrier the German officer got. The officer started shouting at Funk in German and Funk continued to infuriate him by laughing hard. Soon the other enemy soldiers joined in on the laughter. After some time when Funk finally gained his composure, he went ahead to unsling his gun in an act of surrender. But in a swift motion, he emptied an entire magazine into the German officer! By the time the Germans realized what happened, Funk had ordered his men to pick up any weapon they could find and open fire. His troop was able to kill 21 Germans, wounded 24, and captured the rest. Funk was later heard saying. “That was the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.” Sounds like a comedy movie plot, doesn’t it? But it’s so true!By war’s end Funk had received, among other awards, the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters, the Dutch Militaire WillemsOrde—said to be the equivalent of the British Victoria Cross—and the Medal of Honor, presented to Funk at the White House by President Harry Truman.Leonard Funk left the Army after the war and ultimately became Pittsburgh regional chief of the Veterans Administration. He died in 1992 and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. This was today’s event.
