You won’t find a dry recounting of dates and battles here, but instead you’ll learn about who these people were and how their desires, fears, and flaws shaped the scope of this island at the edge of the world. And some of those desires are downright scandalous.

one of my Christmas traditions is not listening to any new BHP episodes during the holiday season then binging them on Christmas or Christmas eve or the closest day possible. You know youre doing something right when people go out of their way to make you a part of their holiday celebrations. thanks for producing such quality content.

Whilst listening to this episode today (yeah, I've only just found this podcast!), it reminded me of something which occurred just over a year ago. My friends fiance and her team of archeologists uncovered two Roman statues at a site in the path of HS2. The site appeared to be a Bronze Age burial ground, turned Roman mausoleum, turned Anglo Saxon church, turned Norman church. And they decided to destroy it in the 1960s! It had a lot of media coverage at the time but this is one of the articles: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/once-in-a-lifetime-discovery-of-roman-statues-found-beneath-medieval-church-in-england-180978985/ HS2 is very controversial and will probably feature in many British History Podcasts in the next millennium... however the large amounts of excavations being carried out, could be a positive externality to the whole project for historians with hopefully more finds to come.

Can't please everyone, but for myself I think it's a fantastic podcast, my advice for those who aren't really happy with the presentation or the host and or can't help finding mistakes. Dont listen... Hand jobs
As might be expected, this Yank has no feel for the feudal system. For a contrasting feel, see the works of Julius Evola, tutor to the SS, who criticised the Nazis for being insufficiently right-wing. Blood, honour and fidelity were the essence of feudalism-- loyalty to one's liege-lord-- and this Yank underappreciates the appeal of such qualitiès to a landless, uneducated pleb who, quite understandably, wanted to pledge himself to something higher. The Normans, with their castles and cathedrals, were that Something Higher. Class struggle had nothing to do with it.

I've been listening for a few years now after finding it and tell everyone about it. You can tell the amount of effort that is put it in and Jamie and Zee do an amazing job. Amusing reading the comments from people that don't like his politics too. Keep up the good work.

This episode was gripping. I honestly got upset, knowing what the outcome for England is. Amazing storytelling, just phenomenal.
